  2. I'm guessing that once Sonar becomes a product that costs money, it will be perceived as something that's here to stay. I'm sure that between the experiences with Roland, Gibson, and then a free version, there were some doubts about longevity As far as getting press is concerned, althoughMusicTech (which is part of the group of companies that includes BandLab) and Sound on Sound aren't interested in Sonar articles, Sweetwater Publishing is open to making a Sonar tips book part of their catalog. They were even willing to do that before the new Sonar was announced, so clearly their motive wasn't to sell copies of Cakewalk by BandLab At this point I'm just waiting for "New Sonar" to come out so the screenshots and feature set will be current. I think once a book is out, it will (hopefully) contribute at least something to the program's credibility.

  3. Just LAST WEEK I was in Sound Arts Recording in Houston to help a friend with some background vocals. I've worked there with my friend before so I know the engineer to a degree. Nice guy. Great mixer and engineer. He knows that I used to be his competition with local band projects, but we actually get along very well. Later, after the work was done, we were just chatting about this and that...and he played my latest track through his system. When it was done, he asked me to play it again. After that he asked me what DAW I was using. I told him. And he said..."You can do all that in Cakewalk?". I was like...I've always been able to do all that in Cakewalk...lol.

  6. https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2023/10/30/tugspect/ https://tugrulakyuz.gumroad.com/l/ssxrm?layout=profile This amazing plugin delves into spectral processing with an approach similar to plugins like iZotope Iris 2 and relies on images or drawable shapes to generate a variety of quirky effects. an experimental fx vst3 plugin that takes sound manipulation by allowing to scan an image and dynamically shape the incoming audio of a track using the pixel values : any image, from abstract art to your own photographs , and use it as a template for sound transformation. You can draw basic shapes like elipses rectangles and lines. It employs real-time Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) filtering to analyze the incoming audio and apply spectral processing that mirrors the pixel values in the image. It is available as a VST3 plugin for macOS (Intel + native Apple Silicon) and Windows.

  10. What I can tell you working on, pre, post and live broadcasting for ITV as a sound and video engineer. The reality is we want 48/24 for video and music, less issue with dynamic range loss and anti-aliasing can be a real problem, especially with digital platforms. If you need to know more anti-aliasing varying factors with loss and noise read about Nyquist frequency is a good start. Why we often resample 44 up to 48 due to those above issues, but why use 44 in first place and resample you ask. Well only because some studios use a desk that have SPDIF or ADAT at 44 or gave us CD or Digi Tape at 44 and not 48 due to upgrading studio is costly. Don’t forget, you lose some of that vintage tech classic sounds of the pre amps etc with some old gear. i have a desk with AD Conversion: [24 bit Guitar/Bass] [24 bit phantom mic (Mic)] [24 bit (Line)] [24 bit (Simul) great desk pre amps ] back to DA Conversion: 24 bit with Internal Processing: 24 bit (digital mixer section) however its limited to SPDIF 44.1 kHz so i take a line out to 48kHz s to bypass the SPDIF as a hybrid work a round 48/24 is not about our ears, we can’t ear the difference from 44/16 but the digital world does due to things like Nyquist frequency, plugins, software algorithms etc, why we get issues like anti-aliasing, drop outs and much more with massive file size when we push our sampling with audio and midi. If i use the SPDIF, you have to set the cakewalk project, interface and system drivers all to 44.1 kHz or its will create noise, anti-aliasing, cackles and drop outs. That is important to note when working with any standard make sure everything is the same standard or you will get bugs and issues. Cakewalk project, your interface drivers and system drivers are all set to your preference which should be 48/24 and why i bypass SPIDF as im forever changing my setting if i don't and you want a stable system first. Some interfaces have a higher internal clock than 24-bit but i say 48/24 is a safe mode standard At one time, 44/16 was better due to CPU restrictions of audio interface, hardware and CPU etc. 48/24 can still be pushing CPU restrictions mixing with large recorded sample files size, plugins and loads of tracks (play/record tracking hammers your system) but everyone should be on 48/24 standard really unless you have NASA power and hardware,

  13. I've been exclusively a CW user since the days of DOS in the early 90s. It friggin' irks the Hell out of me when CW isn't a part of DAW conversations and articles! I mean, most of the time it's not even mentioned, even when FL or Reaper is talked about!!! Cakewalk is AWESOME, and I couldn't see myself getting used to any other daw. It just makes sense. Maybe that because of how long I've used it. And on top of how excellent and powerful it is, it's free!!! I just don't get it! Is it because they don't want to mention a superb daw in conversations with other daws out if embarrassment for how their own daws pale in comparison.

  20. I've not read any of the other comments yet, but I will do. I think this track is fan bloody tastic, well done you two. If I could just offer a very nit-picky suggestion then it would be, how about varying the rhythm of the "not to worry" backing vox every now and again? Not too much mind, sometimes less is more, but I think it's nice to have the occasional curve ball just to keep the listener on their toes 🙂

  23. It took me more than a few years to stop being sheepish and obfusactory, when the "So, what DAW do you use?" conversation arose. Especially since, the most common reply back to me was invariably, "Cakewalk, what's that?" But soldiering on, gaining, expressing confidence, I found that curious folk will be intrigued. Perhaps, keep letting people know - they will catch on or it's their loss!

  30. Hey, Joe (sorry, I'm a Hendrix fan, I enjoyed writing that too much!), You totally nailed it. But after your post, my curiosity got the best of me. It is indeed a KONTAKT Player library. Somebody just forgot to grab their cup of coffee before setting up that web page and putting together these instructions. And to be clear, I'm not ripping on Sonuscore, I love their libraries. I think they're awesome and their freebies are awesome (this will be added to my list). But I can't help but find these directions amusing. Follow along from 1 -5 to download and locate THE SAW library. But the big surprise, PIPE ORGAN will show up in your libraries! No, no. It won't. Obviously, someone copied this from the direction for PIPE ORGAN -- which is another really good freebie from Sonuscore -- and made an error. I'll see if there's an easy support form to let them know. But the good news is, you don't need FULL KONTAKT. It's a free player library.

  36. @whoisp I enjoyed reading your post. It had a few points that related to my past experiences with the dawn of consumer digital gear. As I said earlier I was using 48 to master to a Sony DAT machine which had replaced my 10” reel to reel. I could definitely hear the improvement overall and mostly it was because I now had that nice clean and quiet sound. And a small item to mail in to replication people. Shortly after I bought the Yamaha o1v digital mixer and discovered it was set at 44.1 for SPDIF output. Dang. So I would mix both a 44.1 master via SPDIF and a 48 which involves D/A out to A/D in. Guess which one still sounded better. Later I got my first PC and soon was using Wave Lab and started transferring all my masters into Wave files. The Sound Blaster Audigy II card had optical inputs so I used that to transfer the DATs. I had already transferred my 10” tape to DAT at 48. I assumed they would be 48 but many years later I discovered that they are only 44.1. I have no clue why but no doubt the Sound Blaster is to blame. I later yet replaced that with a Interface that had SPDIF and used my O1v as the pre amps so a lot of stuff was recorded at 44.1.

I don't use cello that much (even though it might be my favourite instrument in terms of pure sound) but I‘ve had some fun with this. It can even be mapped to be like 50% MPE, so I might be biased.

  41. IRL, I'm a business person who's also known as a writer on marketing strategy and business ethics. But I'm a former musician and have advised around 3 dozen sample developers on marketing and branding strategy over the years as an extension of my music hobby, really. I basically just shared the inside story of the attack on 8Dio at VI Control, because Fleer wondered what was going on and I had all of these connections to every player in the story, but it took talking to everyone involved to piece everything together which is nearly a year from when the attack on 8Dio thread happened, but that's when I finally was able to figure it all out. My insights come from: (1) having been the person who gave Mario / Evil Dragon advice on how to work with Troels after he was caught in an appearing to give a comparison with a ToneHammer's sample library without disclosing he worked for the competitor one he stated sounded better in a KVR post back in 2010, (2) knowing Mike Greene and having numerous discussions and provided the emails and PMs between him and 8Dios CEO (I've given him marketing advice in the past and we've known each other for 2 decades), (3) having given Troels a single marketing/branding consulting session nearly 15 years ago; (4) having had many conversations with Sarah and Mario on this matter, (5) getting to know 8Dio's CEO, Tawnia Knox and interviews with her and (6) being friends with Cory Pelazzari, the person Greene and Sarah leveraged as their friend in their attacks, although neither had ever known him or had a single communication with him. I'm the friend named Peter D. that Cory credits in a recent YouTube post for motivating him to start making videos again.

  42. I switched from 44.1 to 48 kHz recently not because I wanted to or felt it would improve the sound, but because Dolby Atmos sessions need to be at 48 or 96 kHz. Rather than switch back and forth, I figured I'd cave to the gods of "Immersive Is Really Going to Get Traction This Time, Really It Will, It Won't Be Like Every Other Surround Fail Since the 70s." We'll see about that. So now I do everything at 48 kHz. I guess that means seamless transfers to DATs, LOL.
