About Me

  1. e In the same I like this. I'm not one for cover songs, but I don't mind so much when someone does a cover song of Lennen and Harrison and do them as well as this cover. I thing Lennen himself would like this. Rock On. Down with AI, Terry
  2. Working on a mix and once the BPM is set...dragging or importing the files it adds the file name with a ( ) and the file number Cakewalk assigns the file. Anyway to get Cakewalk to NOT add that file number and just populate the Track file name exactly what the original file name is? I know I can manually edit but 11 songs containing 60+ tracks a piece is a smidge time consuming. Figured I'd ask.
  3. Good question and I'm pretty confident I won't need it, But I have a massive Plan B! I already have purchased Mixcraft 10 Pro Studio. I liked it enough to get it on sale dirt cheap. I also am using Pro Tools First because I have other people I sometimes work with who are Pro Fools. Bummer is the inability to use some of my favourite Plug ins. I don't think I would ever pay for the full version. Out of my league. I can also upgrade my Cubase Elements 7 for around $250. I prefer Cubase over Studio one for midi editing. I tested all of them and those were my short list. I can never get my head around Reaper so off my list. I like Harrison Mixbus but like many, it's weak at Midi editing. I tried the newest versions demo and I own Version 4. I have various older version of Sonar that I could use if I needed to open older projects. I would never return to actually recording with them. Seems stupid to step back 10 years. I am in the process of backing everything up to Midi and Wave stem files so all my important stuff is future proof. I've finished and published all my originals up to date. I don't have anything that is unfinished other than a few song ideas that were obviously bad song ideas! Then I have hundreds of backing track projects that are 100% midi so they already open and play in all other DAW's. I'm not dependant on things like the Pro Channel. I generally don't use many plug ins so swapping over is not as complicated for me as it would be for those crazy guys with 700 plug ins on a project. I also own 2 digital multi track recorders one which can do Midi sync as well as a bunch of Hardware. I could almost stay out of the box. I have a neighbour who owned a small studio back in the 80's and has a bunch of old semi pro studio Reel To Reel 2 tracks and I think even a 16 track 1/2" he offered I could borrow. But I can't afford the Tape and I lost my razor blades and white lead in tape. So I'm not overly concerned about what Bandlab does. I would like to carry on with Sonar and feel that is all that will happen and it will be business as usual COMING SOON I HOPE! June 6th is fast approaching! Geez.
  4. It actually seems like a very small group that are complaining still. I think the majority are following along with Choices 1&2 from my list above. I really like Sonar and totally got used to the new GUI. I uninstalled CbB. I have no nag screens. It’s not very expensive for now, but still will only purchase, not continue to rent. The bonus has been getting Cakewalk Next as well. It a great little DAW for quick song ideas. Super fast to load and get going.
  5. That's a good way of looking at it. The BIG difference is this not only does channel strip, but summing as well on the Main....and it's more integrated than the PC was.
  6. I will not own Behringer products because they refuse to offer block diagrams (schematics) for them. Search the internet forums far and wide and they are non-existent. I end up pushing buttons all over the unit hoping to get a signal out. They advertise the Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820 as 8 ins and 8 outs but in reality it is only stereo out to the PC. Maybe this is why they don't want the schematics out there in the wild. I found one partial schematic scribbled in someone's handwriting. A unit with 8 actual inputs into your PC will cost over 1000 dollars. RME is the way to go. Behringer tech support told me, "We only give schematics and block diagrams to our partners." But not the consumers of your products, the people who actually need to know how to run the product? I have 2 Behringer U-Phoria UMC1820s that have sat in a junk drawer since the day I bought them. They are for sale for $50 each (plus shipping) I got ripped off and deceived by Behringer, never again. I got the wrong thing too and I am stuck with them. As for the sound quality of the Behringers, "unremarkable". I only kept them because I don't like to return stuff I used. If given the choice again they would go right back. My Zoom UAC-232 blows the doors off the Behringers, wide open.
  7. It's not clear but are you saying that it is only Audacity? There's lots of things involved in sharing the audio system on a PC. First go to windows sound settings, this is W10. Set your sample rate here. And uncheck the exclusive control box. This is important. This is W11 - It's a terribly configured system I do not like. -Focusrite Control panel set your rate here as well. Open a Cakewalk project. What shows in the transport? Open Preferences and make sure this is unchecked Export the project as a Wave file at your default sample rate. and play in Media Player. In the lower right is 3 dots and you'll find "properties" This will confirm that your file is indeed the correct sample rate, 2304 = 48/24 wave file. ( my default) - open the file in Audacity . Check does it show that the file you are playing is the correct sample rate? Take note Audacity doesn’t use ASIO drivers. This is why I don't use it. I use Wave Lab or Gold Wave.
  8. The extensions for Luna are completely separate from the plugins. They are: •Ampex ATR-102 Master Tape Machine & LUNA Extension •API 2500 Bus Compressor & LUNA Extension •API Preamp •API Summing LUNA Extension •API Vision Channel Strip & LUNA Extension The included plugins are: •Century Tube Channel Strip •Galaxy Tape Echo •Oxide Tape Recorder •Polymax •Pultec Passive EQ Collection •Pure Plate Reverb •Studer A800 Tape Recorder & LUNA Extension •Teletronix LA-2A Leveler Collection NOTE: Neve summing is NOT included in the Luna Pro upgrade It is $149 currently on sale: https://www.uaudio.com/uad-plugins/instruments-extensions/neve-summing.html
  9. This is why I always use a virtual credit card for all my subscriptions. I set it to the amount needed when first signing up, then change the daily limit to $1, so that any subsequent charges fail. I can then decide whether to renew or not.
  10. System Requirements macOS 10.15+ Windows not supported Does this still hold true or with this Windows release, is the Pro Bundle Windows compatible? This is also nice if it means what I think it means? i.e. the UAD native plugs are available in other DAWs or only within LUNA? If I purchase this bundle, do I get a license for native and Apollo/UAD-2 versions? Yes, for every UAD plug-in that supports native and Apollo/UAD-2 versions, you get a license for both. EDIT FYI: Included LUNA Extensions and UAD Plug-ins LUNA Extensions LUNA API Vision Console Channel Strip LUNA API 2500 Bus Compressor LUNA API Summing Extension LUNA Studer A800 Tape Recorder LUNA Ampex ATR-102 Master Tape UAD Plug-ins API Vision Channel Strip API 2500 Bus Compressor Century Tube Channel Strip Galaxy Tape Echo Oxide Tape Recorder PolyMAX Synth Pultec EQP-1A Passive EQ Pultec HLF-3C Passive EQ Pultec MEQ-5 Passive EQ Pure Plate Reverb Studer A800 Tape Recorder Teletronix LA-2 Classic Leveler Teletronix LA-2A Gray Classic Leveler Teletronix LA-2A Silver Classic Leveler
  11. Video demo looks promising. Seems to work in Voltage Modular (with VM's Plug-in Host Module) and CbB. Lots of sliders. Estimated approx. 280-285 exposed parameters. So far as I can see Remote Control / MIDI Learn and Patch Selection functionality depend on VST Host/DAW. Not exactly sure what's original about it. Simple Test: Set up 12 of the Harmonic Sliders (there are 16) to be controlled by LFO CVs (different shapes and amounts) for a hamonic shape shifting patch. Yup: Experimental!!! 🙂
  12. I'm pretty sure my 3 days has passed, maybe cutting it to fine though, but I looked in the help and it says it's 10 days so who knows. I'll keep an eye on it for you and let you know if anything gives. I'll not be going back. I've got my System Drive back up that I done prior to upgrading if anything should go south latter on, but I think it'll be ok.
  13. Just wanted to add one important point, especially when comparing passive vs. active EQs. A passive EQ, like the Massive Passive or Pultec, don't actually "boost" frequencies. What actually happens is that when you "boost" a frequency by 2db it will drop other frequencies by 2db (*), giving the perception that the target frequency is being boosted. Depending on the unit (or emulation) 2db of makeup gain is then added to the entire signal. (**) Because of this process, technically, a passive EQ does not require a power supply except for the purpose of a providing a kind of "auto gain" to compensate for lost signal. And of course the gain amp in many passive EQ units gives each unit a very signature sound. * = the frequency curve of this process wildly differs between models. Some do steeper cuts to frequencies closest to the target frequency, others have a more uniform curve across the whole spectrum. ** = again, how this is done differs wildly between models. For example, you get quite a different sound if the fixed-gain amp is before or after the EQ circuit. A proper emulation of these units would have to take this circuitry into account. I noticed that a lot of these "all these EQ plugins sound the same" claims often mix match entirely different types of EQs without understanding the circuitry / physics and how it would be literally impossible for them to sound the same. If they are getting a "they sound identical", then there is either something wrong with the emulation (quite possible), or something very wrong with the test. Not sure if I explained that correctly - but here's a Sweetwater site explanation:
  14. Do you know what the difference is between being smart and being wise? A smart person knows a pineapple is not an apple, but a wise person knows it doesn't belong on a pizza! 😜
  15. Frankly the new re-activation time is really annoying! On my laptop I reactivated only 17 days ago and there it is again! 👎 I think that their "fake" reason to change the activation server caused by "technical" changes is just not true! I suspect it was more to reduce the validity to just some days! I am close to skip CbB and jump to Platinum or X3 together with Reaper! Better to skip this re-activation nag and lose some minor (for me at least) improvements (in Platinum/X3, not in Reaper)! It is sad, so sad!
  16. Some observes: Shape instrument is like a stripped down Dimension with 4 Parts (Elements) but creates a lot of rice krispies when using more than one Part. Audio settings are 48kh @2048 samples (max available). Crackles get worse the lower I set it. Never an issue with CbB. Can't find a way to set the sample rate before creating a project. Had to close LUNA and reset the Mackie driver by opening CbB in 48/24 first. Can't even change it in Mackie Control Panel. 😠 "Mike" is right. Melodyne is impossible to use within LUNA. Need ARA or ability to resize it's window. Not sure why they'd do that but I found LUNA also prevents the Windows 10 Taskbar from opening when it's full screen - even with the Win key. Guess I should be telling UA about these.
  17. Linda Audio have released Digimorph, available as a FREE download, donations are welcomed. https://lindaaudio.blogspot.com/2024/05/digimorph.html Digimorph is an experimental digital synthesizer. It does not emulate any real hardware, instead it brings original combination of substractive and additive synthesis with powerful modulation matrix. On top of that there are quality master fx (chorus, delay, reverb and two saturations) and arpeggiator. Digimorph is available to Windows users (VST2).
  18. As others have already pointed out, REAPER is only free during the trial period, after that, if you use it, you're in violation of the use agreement. So your plan was/is to dump CbB because it has a login request screen "every few days or so" in favor of using REAPER in post-trial pirate mode, where the nag screen comes up every single time, and takes upward of 30 seconds before you can banish it? If you want a free option, better to cozy up to Waveform Free. I always recommend being familiar, if not fluent, with multiple DAW's anyway.
  19. I don't have the plug-in, but I assume that what it is is some sort of sequencer or MIDI generator or processor that loads as an instrument and sends MIDI to another instrument? I do have experience with multiple plug-ins of that type, Loop Engine and Chordjam among them. MIDI routing can be puzzling at first, but once you figure it out they work fine. When you say that you are not able to change any parameters, can you elaborate? What parameters? It sounds like you've gotten Rhythmizer to output MIDI and the synth to receive it. Do you mean that you're unable to interact with the Rhythmizer UI?
  20. @JeffSouth, sorry to be picky but Reaper is not free. Per the +++ website +++
  21. For right now VSTi multi-outs are not a deal breaker, nor is extensive MIDI editing. When I get tracks from other collaborators they are 99/100% pure audio (just like Ivory Soap). 99/100% of my "midi" is using EZdrummer/Superior and EZKeys (sometime EZBass) for skecthing out a song. This just might be the straight forward approach I need to KISS it at demo stage. We'll see.
  22. Yup, FaderPort 16 and Console1 setup were easy as pie. I'm sure my Axiom will work out too. Just did not get around-tuit. Comping is how I need/want to record drums. All inputs need V1, V2, V3... etc. and then group those inputs to comp all tracks at once. I'm going try a rudimentary test on that tomorrow.

  24. I've gone through phases in my development as a mix engineer, and as the audio software industry has changed over the past decade. Initially I budgeted nothing for plug-ins, just went with whatever was bundled with Mixcraft (which, admittedly, is known for bundling some nice plug-ins, such as the way underrated ToneBoosters stuff). At the time, the industry was moving to 64-bit, and the one-person freebie developers were stuck with SynthEdit, which took a LONG time to get a 64-bit replacement. Now we have JUCE and others. Then MeldaProduction kicked off this era of loss leaders by topflight developers. That was a watershed moment. MeldaProduction has since made a fortune from people who tried their free bundle and were hooked (like me). The sound and features were so far ahead of anything else available for free. Got deals on the iZotope Elements suites of the time. At that point, my mixes and masters got the the point where I was no longer frustrated with the results I was getting, it was then all about shaving off that final 10% of skills and tools. Being a fixed income frugal dude, when I switched to CbB as my primary DAW and discovered this forum, it was off to the races. Plugin Alliance virtually giving away licenses, IK Multimedia TRacks freebies (I now have every TRacks processor I ever wanted, not paid a dime for any of them), Plugin Boutique freebies (which have included some top-tier things like sonible and Kilohearts specialty EQ's), Native Instruments freebies, iZotope Exponential $10 reverbs, Waves freebies, I now have a FEROCIOUS collection of top-tier processors and synths for which I've paid very little in the scope of the hobby (and thanks to my main DAW being freeware). I think the only thing anyone would find "lacking" in my quiver of tools would be if they were really fond of Waves, FabFilter or UAD. The only plug-in categories that now interest me for acquisition are sound-design-y things like Unfiltered Audio, Glitchmachines, Freakshow Industries and the like. Also synths, but only freebies. There's no way I don't have all the bread-and-butter mixing and mastering categories covered multiple times over. I have so much stuff that I've barely touched the iZotope bundle since I got it. No buyer's remorse, it's industry-standard stuff and I'm glad it's there. Indeed. And heaven knows plenty of "This One Secret!" videos that were "all you need is your DAW's stock plug-ins." 🙄 They get clicks, though, even from us jaded skeptics who click on them just to roll our eyes.
