  1. It must be the winter season because we have been enjoying visits from our family and friends from the north country. Hence my apologies for the delay in responding. Hi gtrpastor. Actually, I was looking for "things" in this song that might create a bit of an unsettled sound. I actually tried a few different drum loops and came up with what you heard. I thought that with those loops it and the "oos" MIDI voices that a bit of discomfort might have been created. Thank very much for listening and for your comments. Hi geere1. Your right , Tom always has great suggestions and his were echoed by others. In between visits I have tried a bit of EQing, panning, volume placement, etc. (look at that -- I'm talking like I actually know what I'm doing 😄). Hopefully the middle is a little less cluttered and the vocals a bit more prominent. I appreciate your input and thanks for listening. Hey Bjorn. Actually since I don't take those medications I had to look them up (lol). I have known some friends that have had to deal with such issues and even one that is dealing with PSTD. Sometimes writing a song with help you deal with their issues when you can't do much about it. Thanks for your comments buddy!! Hi Gary. Your are right Tom had some good suggestions and hopefully the changes that I have made might have addressed some of the suggestions above. I am very sorry to hear about your having to deal with PSTD. It can be very rough and I wish you all the best! Thanks very much for taking time to listen and for your comments. Hey Bats. Thanks much for your kind comments and suggestions. I have made some tweaks and hopefully they might have improved things a bit. Since I am a complete amateur at mixing, any further suggestions would be appreciate if these tweaks didn't make the grade. Thanks again!! Hello Jesse. Thanks for your comments pal. No, the oo's are not mine. They are a MIDI voice under the ensemble category. I believe that they are actually called "oo's" Maybe that is part of the trouble on my mixes? I can't tell left from right on my h-phones. Hey Douglas. Thanks very much for taking the time to listen and for your very kind comments. This song is a bit different from the usual stuff but every once in a while I like to get out of my comfort zone and exercise different muscles and gray matter. The movie is indeed a hoot and if you can find it you may indeed find it funny. Thanks again for your comments. Hi Allan. I am very glad that you enjoyed it. I was going for a bit of an unsettled sound in this song. I'm glad that it came through and was hoping didn't sound too weird. Thanks for listening and thanks also for taking the time to respond. Hi Tom. Thanks for the tip. I use drum loop clips. There are a number of reasons for this one of which is that I feel like a few drummers are getting paid for what they do and being a guy who loves live music they have a bit more of a live sound to me. They do indeed have their problems though. The clips might not fit together neatly, the recording might be poor, many are restricted to specific tempo's which don't match the song you are trying to do etc. On this particular song, I believe that I used some clips from Beta Monkey (don't know that for sure - I will have to dig up the working file and check). Usually, Beta Monkey's stuff is pretty good. I did make some changes on the drums with EQ and I did use WAVES' L1 + Ultramaximizer to get some resolution. Prior to that they were naked -- I used nothing. Thanks again for listening, kind words and for your insight. Let me know if the changes didn't work. Hey Daryl1968. I'm really glad that you liked it! Hopefully, it brought a bit of a smile to your face. I do appreciate your kind comments and thanks for listening. Hi John B. Thank you very much for the kind words. I very much appreciate your taking the time to listen and comment!
  2. You did indeed create a song well done. The lyrics are the meat but the music is the desert (my attempt at an analogy that complements). Thanks for the video! It is sometimes amazing how simple statements can hold so much truth. Well crafted and performed John!!!!

Thanks SteveC. I'm very glad that you liked it. I very much appreciate that you took the time to listen and comment. Thanks again.

    Bama Coast

When work called me up to Tallahassee, I would try and take time to spend in FL's panhandle area which also goes by the nicknames "Redneck Riviera" and "L.A." (Lower Alabama). This song describes this area also. Great seafood, beaches, and fun people. This song described it all. Well done -- I enjoyed it!!

    Rain

Beautiful song and excellent performance. I certainly agree with the comments above that complement you on the vocals. Your delivery was great. I also agree that just your vocals and guitar would carry this song. Well done indeed!!!
  6. I must add my kudos and complements to those above. Yes the vocals are excellent but so is the entire song. Stick a fork in it -- its done and well done!
  7. Hi David. I think that one time or another in our life that most of us can relate --- at least temporarily. I am very glad that you liked it. Thanks much for listening and taking the time to comment!!! Hi Kloon. You're right it is a serious topic. I was trying to use a little bit of a light, slightly humourous, touch to get across how difficult the problem can be for many folks. I appreciate your comments and thanks very much for listening and commenting! Hello Martsave Martin s. You are right. There are parts of the song that are kind of crowding other parts. Thanks for the suggestion and thanks for listening! Hello Tom. Thanks for you suggestions. As was pointed out in the comment by Martsave Martin s, EQ or something is needed to separate things out a bit. No, the is no flute. Perhaps you are hearing the two separate tracks of good old fashioned MIDI voices. I think they were labeled "oo's". If memory servers me correctly they were just recorded about an octive apart. I am writing down your suggestions and any others received and will go to work on cleaning things up as soon as I complete some other projects. Thanks again Tom. I always appreciate and value your comments and suggestions!
  8. Fun song and well done. Great playing, mix and creative video. Oh yea great vocals/harmonies! It sounds like Love Bug season in Florida. We're lucky. We have two seasons for Love Bugs -- spring and early fall. I enjoyed this creative work by you and your daughter. Please relay my kudos to your daughter.
  9. I too get that Ray Davies feel on this song. I particularly found the guitar work interesting. More specifically, I really liked the sound between the the rhythm (panned middle) and the bass. Interesting sound of the guitars on the lead and accent fills. I like the interplay when both got going toward the end. Good stuff -- I enjoyed this very much! I also enjoyed the guitar sounds and interplay on " Wanted To Be Yours". Good power sounds! Good vocals on this one also.
  10. Having grown up on Blues, rock 'n roll, rockabilly, and jazz, I am ashamed to say, with limited exceptions, that I have never developed a proper appreciation for classical music. Probably to the embarrassment of my parents and teachers of any music appreciation course that I had in grade school or college. However, I certainly can appreciate good work and you certainly have created some good work here. Who knows --- maybe if you post some more works like this, I will wake up my appreciation for classical music. Keep 'em coming and well done!!!
  11. Classic brew from Batsbrew and you never disappoint. There is a lot going on in this song and it all works. Well done!!
  12. A while ago I had the opportunity to re-watch Mel Brooks' movie "High Anxiety. This is my take on it. The movie was (and is) an absolute hoot and I loved it, but I think that we should all keep in mind that anxiety, panic disorder, and a number of other mental/behavioural health concerns are real for a lot of folks. I am taking another step off of my comfort platform area and this song is a wee bit different that what I normally and like to do. So, comments, crit.'s and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, HIGH ANXIETY https://www.soundclick.com/music/songInfo.cfm?songID=13974053

    This Is Your Life

Well done! It has an almost anthem like production and excellent production. Good lyrics and a descriptive presentation of a social situation.
  14. As average listener Number (#) 2 responding, I would say that it sounds pretty darn good. As an incompetent in this mixing/mastering/studio-set-up stuff, I won't and can't offer any suggestions. However, I do admire those that can handle it!!!
  15. Thank you!!! The best yet!!! It has structure (verse, chorus, melody, etc.) but still has that Jesse touch and that is good, very good! I love it. Being a guitar guy I very much like your guitar work (just the right amount of dissonance) and the lead breaks were very cool indeed. Ya, the vocal might come up a bit but the lyrics that I did catch were very cool also. I particularly liked the ending. To me it summarized the chaos and confusion some of us are currently experiencing given the nature of things.
  16. Aaaah, where is the mix? I tried but it was gone. Oh well, I'll try again later.
  17. Great song! It has a great story, good instrumentation and production, arrangement, etc. The vocal is indeed very good and personally I kind of like the Fx on it. Oh yes - almost forgot, I like that strong bass line that runs through it. Nice one!
  18. For working on the guitar for such a short time, you are sounding doggone good! I love the humour in this song. I like the the verb on the guitar. The lyrics are great and your vocals express the frustration of the lyrics. Your kind of smokey or gravelly sounding vocals in this song would really adapt to a lot of the more traditional styles of the Blues. This sounds like the kind of story and song that Albert Collins might do. Good one my friend! I enjoyed it and even got a giggle from it!!!
  19. Hi geeare1. Thanks very much for listening and the kind comments. Indeed, time passes by fast. In fact, it seems to be passing by at light speed. Needless to say I was more than just a bit upset when I destroyed (accidentally) my external drive. Oh well, at one time or another we all must adapt to what we do to ourselves. Thanks for the sentiment. Hey Wookiee. I am just waiting for the bills to come in this month. I'm glad that this blast from the past might have given you a giggle. Thanks for listening and commenting pal! Thank you Bjorn. I must return the sense of humour complement. You Beanie Weenie video/song was great! Please don't listen too closely to my guitar playing --- you will hear all of my mistakes. 😟 😄 Thanks again for listening and for the kind words. Hi Kenny. I hope that you had a great holiday season. I'm also glad that it gave you a wee bit of time of relief from holiday and everyday stress. Thanks for listening and for your comments. I very much appreciate it!
  20. Hi Steve. You know, I think that I had to sign up with Bandlab when the transition was made to the new Cakewalk by Bandlab and new forum site. However, I am not sure if I have posted anything on it or what the link is. Right now SoundClick.com is the only site on which I have been posting. I will check into it Bandlab and provide you with a link if I can figure it out. Thanks!
  21. Hi Jesse. Thank you !! I think that the story is one that some might be able to share due to the exuberance of spending during Christmas. Actually this year was a fairly modest one for us, and isn't it interesting --- it was still a wonderful and warm Christmas. All the best to you for the new year, pal! Thank you Tom! I got an estimate to see if anything could be recovered from my dearly departed external drive. The estimate came in close to $1,000 to which I responded thanks but no thanks. I would like to improve some of the old songs that I posted in my early days on the forum. However, I don't see any other option other than re-doing them from scratch. That may or may not happen with some of them. Thanks very much for listening and commenting . I hope that you have a great new year! Hi Nigel. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I always appreciate it. With the exception of some genre such as big band, cool jazz, etc. , I have always leaned to a more raw, rough and ready sound to music. I guess that's why I always gravitated to rock 'n roll, early electric blues, punk, and other such genre. Also, I must admit to not having the skills nor talent to create a perfect piece. Besides music, for me, is more therapy than anything else. Instead of yelling at my wife or kicking the dog, I simply grab a guitar and feel much better. 😊 Thanks again Nigel and happy new year! Hi Douglas. I can remember having a lot of fun when I was doing this song. However, I thought my son was going to call the men in white coats to sedate me and take me away. I very much appreciate your taking the time out to listen and comment. Thank you and I hope you have a happy new year!
  22. Powerful voice, strong stage presence and wonderful performance. You indeed must be very proud!
  23. I must echo the positive comments above. This is really is a pleasant cool jazz type of a song that with few exceptions might have fit well on the Mancini Peter Gunn albums. The guitar playing was excellent. This was a listening treat.
