  1. "What Days We Had" -------- What a great story, What a beautiful song, What a perfect video!!! Excellent production all the way around!
  2. Hey Tom. Thanks for listening and I always appreciate your comments and suggestions. Actually, the guitar sound I was going for was the over driven sound --- like an old portable Pignose amp or old, cheap, tube amp. I gave up because I don't have a Pignose and the sounds I was getting otherwise sounded awful. They just didn't have the McDowell or Welch feel. So I gave up and went in for a more straight analog guitar sound. However, I am going back to the working file and try a touch of reverb (although I do tend to abuse reverb) to see how it works. Thanks again!! Hi Allan. Ah, you notice a bit of a problem between the guitar and vocal. Ya, the problem was not so much with the vocal but I am not proficient with finger picking and I was not used to the chord and note combination that I came up with for this number. Soooo, toward the end of the song my left hand was starting to cramp up a bit and --- ya --- probably got out of sync a bit. Thanks for listening and for the input!! Hey Ramscapri. Thanks very much for listening and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it!! No accordion on this one. It was the good old Marine Band harmonica. Thanks again. Hi Paul. Thanks for listening and for the kind words. It is indeed very much appreciated!!!
  3. I'll join in on all of the kudos given above. This really is an excellent piece of work. I went to the YouTube sight also and really enjoyed the video. Top notch and professionally done!

    Plan 9

Great use of synths to create a SciFi/Horror piece of music. The use of sounds does create a definite edge to this song and the dialogue from the movie really accentuates the whole feel of the song. Way back in the old days, here in the Tampa Bay area, Dr. Paul Bearer hosted a Friday night horror show on one of our local channels. I am not sure who was the bigger "hoot" -- Dr. Paul or the cheesy movies. One empty, unoccupied Friday night (for me)he showed Planet 9 --- I thought it was the best worst movie I had ever seen (I'm not sure if that was a crit. or a complement?). Nice one Bjorn!!!
  5. Hi Kakku, I tried listening (on all the links) but could not get any to play. The 3 dots just kept winking and blinking but the music would not load. I'll try again later.
  6. Nice one John! You have blended a Blues/Old Style R &B with a kind of Jazzy swing. The rhythmic flow of this song really carries it along and the horns really add a lot. I think that the panning that you used worked for a good separation of voice and horns.
  7. Hi amiller. Thanks for listening and for the kind comments. Very much appreciated. I'm glad that you liked it! Hey Douglas. Thanks for listening and your suggestions. Actually, when I thought about the guitar part I was thinking about that overdriven Pig Nose portable amp sound. However, I wasn't clever enough to get that sound. Your suggestion for a touch of reverb might help liven up the guitar a bit. Thanks again. Hi Bjorn. Thanks very much for your comments. I always appreciate your suggestions and find them useful. BTW, I enjoyed your last post. Hi Daryl. Thank you for listening and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it very much.
  8. I remember this one. I enjoyed it then and I really enjoyed it now. To me the mix and performance sound great. Your vocals and harmonies were particularly good as were the lyrics (they were also particularly poignant). I got a bit of a worldbeat flavour from this song. If I'm correct, congratulations on getting it right! Excellent song and performance Lynn!!
  9. Great cover and very cool video. Looks like you had a lot of fun doing this. I enjoyed it --- thanks for posting!
  10. Aaah! Your creativity shines on this one Jesse. The last song that I listened to that you posted gave me a quick flash of the Gang of 4. This one gives me a quick flash of Bob Dylan (?). I guess because of the vocal style and this is a wee bit more melodic than your others. I always have to listen very closely or twice to catch all of the interesting sounds that you put in. What did you use for that interesting background melodic sound coming -- it became slightly more pronounce around 2:50? Good stuff Jesse!
  11. Hi Ed D. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I appreciate it. I was trying to go old school on this number and hopefully I got close. Hi Bob. Gosh ---- thank you very much. I always appreciate the suggestions and support that you have provided over the years. I have learned a lot from you and others on this forum. I too appreciate it when music can transform you to "another place" and I am glad that I may have approached that in this song. Thanks again. Thank you Lynn. I always appreciate your input and encouragement. A BBQ place, hmmm? KC might be a nice summer hangout when it gets too hot here in FL? I don't know a crowd of over 3 people might be too intimidating though!??! BTW I almost missed listening to your last post but I found it -- listened -- thought that you did an excellent job with it --- and enjoyed the heck out of it. Thanks again Lynn.
  12. This song was quite a surprise for me. I don't know what I was expecting but the more that I listened the more it drew me in. It really captures the pain of one spurned in love relationship. I hope this song wasn't precipitated by personal experience but if so, it happens to the best of us. The vocal presentation and instrumentation all set the stage for very powerful and intimate lyrics. The mix sounded very good to my ears. Excellent song!!
  13. Textures indeed!!! I absoflippinlutely loved this song. It seems that it is hard to find any new songs that are instrumentals -- we need more instrumentals! As usual your skills in mixing and playing are excellent but you certainly have a talent for crafting excellent music.
  14. Another interesting and cool sounding song from you. I particularly like the use of the L & R panned keyboards in this song. They aurally complement the introspective lyrics that you have written. The guitar accents also really worked well and vocals were well done and fit perfectly. Terrific work.
  15. I am glad that this song bounced back up to the top of the page. Some how I missed it previously. This is really is a well written song with some excellent lyrics and good work on the vocals. You must have made some of the suggestions made above because the mix sounded doggone good to me. I always enjoy listening to your new posts. You are building up quite a collection of very good songs!!
  16. What a great pop song. I particularly liked the clever humour of the lyrics but everything (e.g., performances, arrangement, vocals, composing, instrumentation, etc.) sounded good to me. I agree with Lynn above. This song is indeed infectious and makes you want to go back and listen again.
  17. Recently I watched a couple of Bio's on PBS. One was featuring Mississippi Fred McDowell and the other Leo "Bud" Welch. I was captivated by the fact that even though these were not schooled musicians and that the footage and sound were primitive they really captured a feeling and sounded cool. As I am want to do, I tried to do something that might capture this and as happens too often ---- well, I may have missed the mark. Anyway, this is my attempt at stripped down, primitive Blues. I hope you enjoy. As this is something new for me, I would appreciate any comments, suggestions, etc. Thanks. That's Alright https://www.soundclick.com/bands3/default.cfm?bandID=963481

    Uganda - video

Absoflippinlutely fantastic. First of all, I must say that I am a wee bit envious. What an opportunity this must have been for you. Your photography is excellent! The music really complements the visuals and it all fits together perfectly. This is an excellent production and I enjoyed your trip through your post. Well Done!!!
  19. Hi Doug. This is a cool and interesting song. It does indeed have a psychedelic feel to it. I have no suggestions to add that haven't been addressed above. It does grab ones attention and I really enjoyed listen to it. Thanks for posting it.
  20. Good song indeed. No crits on my part either -- good arrangement, good performance, and good mix. Very well done indeed!!
  21. I like the funky feel you developed in this song. It really compliments the lyrics. You tell a good story and I love a song that tells a story. The timing and phrasing of your vocals are excellent. The mix sounds good on my system. There is a bunch of really good stuff that comes through on this song. Well done!!!

    Lone Wolf

Hi Allan. Thanks for your response and listening. I'll check out the bass. I always appreciate your suggestions. Thanks again. Hi Edd. For me, it is always easier to do a song when you are having fun doing it and I had fun doing this one. Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. Hey Kenny. I have seen clips of Beck and Higham playing together --- in particular Jeff Beck - Daryl Higham Rockabilly at Ronnie Scotts. Daryl Higham is one of my favourites and anything that I might do that would remind anyone of what Daryl Higham would do is absoflippinlutely great! Thanks Kenny -- you made my day!!!! Hi Amiller. Thanks very much. I appreciate that you took the time to listen and respond!
  24. This was a very enjoyable song and I enjoyed listening to it. The melody was not what I expected but once I listened to it and heard the lyrics, it all made perfectly good sense. Thanks for your explanation -- it really drove it all home for me. So much so, that I had to listen again. Thanks for posting this.

    Lonely Walk

This is a very interesting piece. The somber, quiet beginning is very introspective and does offer several images as bjorn suggested above but the militaristic, strong ending did bring up an image of power and politics (at least to me). Very well done and I enjoyed this! Thanks for posting.
