  2. SKYLIFE releases SampleRobot 6.1 update https://samplerobot.com/blogs/news/skylife-releases-samplerobot-6-1-update by Christian Halten March 08, 2019 We are glad to let you know about our latest SampleRobot update release which is version 6.1. SampleRobot Pro and SampleRobot Montage now with VST host SampleRobot Pro and SampleRobot Montage users will benefit from a marvellous new feature which is the VST host. For the first time in the history of SampleRobot you can directly load your virtual instruments inside SampleRobot and connect them digitally for automatic sampling. As you can see in the screenshot there are "VST Host" entries in the lists for the Midi and Audio devices. When selecting these, SampleRobot will connect to your plugin automatically. There is also a new audio monitoring function included so you can hear what SampleRobot is sampling right now. This feature is work in progress and we decided to offer the current status as a beta feature to our community. At the moment only VST2 instruments can be loaded but we will expand the host functionality also to VST3 and AU standard in an upcoming update. Please note that this feature is only available with SampleRobot Pro and Montage. A gentle note from the developers: Please respect the copyright whatever you sample. It takes a long time to design plugins and preset sounds and it is a highly creative process. Make sure you own the plugins you sample. Don't rip off someone's intellectual property. Be creative and design your own sounds for sampling! Optimized navigation and color coded UI Version 6.1 update includes optimizations that are also available for SampleRobot Multi-X and SampleRobot Korg+Wave. The new context-sensitive color coding makes it a lot easier to navigate through projects, multisamples and samples. Whenever you see the yellow bars in the SampleRobot GUI you are on the Projects' level (screenshot 1). Orange stands for the Multisamples area and all dedicated settings (screenshot 2) while green bars show you the recorded samples and their information (screenshot 3). Now you can easily navigate with these shortcuts: Shift + Arrow Keys Up / Down = Browse Projects Alt + Arrow Keys Up / Down = Browse Multisamples Ctrl / Cmd + Arrow Keys Up / Down = Browse Samples Big screens and 16:9 Since screens are still getting bigger and bigger we shaped SampleRobot for version 6.1 so that you can use the application very comfortably even on the largest 4K screens with various resolutions and aspect ratios like 16:9 and 21:9. When using multiple screens you can drag elements from the graphical user interface like the peak meter simply to another screen to optimize the overview in your sampling session. Best of all, SampleRobot 6.1 is free for all users of version 6. Get it now and have fun!
  3. My eSoundz account says I paid $59 for Cinema Sessions Gold (they have had some crazy sales over the years) and I kind of think I overpaid. And that was for all four of the Cinema Sessions. eSoundz have quit selling this and all the infinite player instruments, I think. https://sonicreality.com/sounds/cinema-sessions/5447.html They don't sell the Infinite Player any more (no more Native Instrument serial numbers maybe)?, but these boxed versions may be the full package including Infinite Player serial numbers. If not it would be unusable. There is nothing wrong with the sounds in these but also nothing amazing or great (at least not by 2019 standards). Unless you really want Infinite Player for Kontakt for some reason I'd say these aren't deals you want.
  4. Run Native Access to install. 2.1.1 — 2019-03-06 Maintenance release. 9. Saw this on the BBC news site: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-47494760 It links back to the following statement by Google: https://security.googleblog.com/2019/03/disclosing-vulnerabilities-to-protect.html Basically, anyone using Windows 7 should update Chrome immediately. But Google are saying the issue runs deeper than Chrome - i.e. it's in Windows 7 itself. Microsoft may issue a patch, but Google advising considering an upgrade to Windows 10.

  11. 9-Mar-2019: Voxengo Elephant version 4.6 is now available for download. Voxengo Elephant is a mastering limiter plugin for professional audio and sound production applications, available in AAX, AudioUnit, VST and VST3 plug-in formats (including native 64-bit support), for macOS (v10.7 and later), and Windows computers. Changes in version 4.6: Reduced loud pop with "Eval" enabled on playback start. Added Retina support on macOS, and automatic high-resolution UI size adjustment on Windows. 10% lower CPU usage on AVX2-capable processors (in 64-bit mode). Elephant is a highly competitive plug-in for mastering applications: it features a variety of limiter modes that can be deeply customized, and a comprehensive set of level metering tools, including headroom estimation and K-metering. Elephant limiter can be used for mixing and mastering of both stereo and multi-channel music and sound material, at any standard sample rate. Limiting process can be visualized both as gain reduction meter and real-time graph. Elephant features: Transparent signal limiting action 10 predefined limiter modes Limiter mode editor Optional release stage Noise-shaped bit-depth converter DC offset removal filter Waveform graph view Stereo and multi-channel processing Internal channel routing Channel grouping Up to 8x linear-phase oversampling 64-bit floating point processing Preset manager Undo/redo history A/B comparisons Contextual hint messages All sample rates support 24 ms compensated processing latency Retina and HighDPI support Demo version of Voxengo Elephant can be downloaded at the Voxengo web site: http://www.voxengo.com/product/elephant/?eref=ml

  13. A quiet Sunday night in 1953. The Dodgers had just won the pennant. J.F.K. and Jacqueline Bouvier had just married. And four titans of bebop came together in a dive bar for a rare jam session. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/08/nyregion/thelonius-monk-charlier-parker.html
  14. Of course Mozilla does upgrades to protect for vulnerabilities, but it doesn't look like they have yet for this one. FWIW, I can't see anything in the Google blog that makes any such implication. [Edit] - It looks like the details of the vulnerability haven't been made publicly available yet: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2019-5786 , so unless Mozilla find it by themselves, they'll have to wait for the details before issuing a fix.
  15. Thanks, @msmcleod But as @Cactus Music says, those RCA connections are not balanced. I think that while it is possible to connect my active monitors to my audio interface I should try that first. And in addition to that I knew I had some ferrite blocks somewhere and I managed to find them. When I stuck it on the audio cable between my audio interface and the speaker it didn't make the slightest bit if difference unfortunately, so I am not even sure about bothering going down that route now. Hi John, Yes, I appreciate that. I built my first studio based mainly on hardware some twenty years ago now. When I dismantled it during a "sabbatical" I boxed everything up, including the cables. Gradually, over the last couple of years, I have been building a new studio. It has gone through many iterations and at the start of 2019 I decided to increase my inputs by adding a second OCTA-CAPTURE unit. Of course, more inputs, more cables, and I have been using stuff I have in stock rather that buying better quality new cables. Back twenty years ago I hardly went onto the internet to discuss or research this sort of stuff and I would go down to my local music store and ask for some good quality audio cables, not even knowing if they were, and not knowing that much at all about balanced cables. False economy, I know, but I do have a budget and most of my money has been put into other things. So the cables have become my "weakest link." And I suppose I am not a "serious studio" either. I have earned a tad over £100 since I started making music all that long ago so, yeah, just a hobbyist me, with money to burn at times, it seems. Yes, I understand that too. I will be endeavouring to use balanced cables where appropriate. A good point, and I have cables that are far too long for the distance they have to cover. Again, this is down to me using what I have and then being too lazy to get the snips and a soldering iron. I will definitely be doing this at some point in the near future. Okay, I have heard this mentioned a few times now so I need to look more into that. Very similar, which is why I say "computer noise" and not mains (a/c) hum. I found one before in one of my many boxes of gear and I have now used it to connect my workstation to the mains. Doesn't help, as it happens, but it is there now so might as well stay there. Yes, I only have a wired keyboard and mouse and they are both fitted with ferrite chokes. There is more, but I want to post this first and answer some of the other posts above... cheers andy

  19. Another 5 star review for The Lobby Piano: https://www.samplesoundreview.com/2019/03/review-lobby-piano-for-omnisphere-25-by.html#more There is still time to get The Lobby Piano for the intro price: https://www.manmakesnoise.com/the-lobby-piano
  20. In honor of getting the Top Pick from Sample Library Review the intro offer of 35€ (excluding VAT) will be continue for 10 days until the 10th of March! After that the full price will be 49€ (excluding VAT). ---- I’m proud to announce my first official release with Man Makes Noise's The Lobby Piano. As this will be the first thing I release I kept pondering what should it be. And so I had a thought no sample library developer has ever had: let’s make a piano library. I know, I know. The world really frigging doesn’t need another deep sampled piano library with a hundred microphones to choose from. So I didn’t make one. Instead I made you something very different. The Lobby Piano is an exploration into what a piano can be. A collection of sound design piano tones ranging from experimental playing styles to completely recharged sound explorations. The Lobby Piano is at home in pretty much everything you do. It’s not really a piano anymore. Really it isn’t. I recorded sounds from a single piano (located in a lobby, duh) with an assortment of orthodox and unorthodox methods and tools (a hammer and a keychain were involved among other items). Still this is not an effects piano nor a prepared piano. It’s a designed piano. The Lobby Piano contains 200 patches with 296 original soundsources. The patches are divided into 13 categories that are easily identifiable within Omnisphere. Today I tease you with the first official demo for the product composed by Stephan Baer using only sounds from the library: The second demo to tease the library is some post rock goodness from Posthouse Tuomi. Dressed and Naked version to show The Lobby Piano in context and the sounds as they are: Also more details about the contents on the The Lobby Piano: ALARMS - 7 -Scream type of sounds. ARPS - 22 - Tonal and rhythmic movements. ATMOSPHERES - 16 - Tonal long ambient sounds. BASIC PIANO SOUNDS - 10 - Single soundsource instruments displaying the variety of recorded sounds. BASSES - 10 - Low end stuff. DESIGNED - 8 - Piano + another sound combined into designed instruments. FX - 10 - Non tonal sounds go here. Most of the riser sounds are controlled by modwheel to allow you to create the length of riser as it suits you! HITS - 8 - Big hits. KEYS - 43 - Layered keyboard sounds. PADS - 35 - Long tonal pads. PERCUSSIONS - 20 - Percussive loops and instruments. PULSES - 6 -Rhythmic pulsing elements. SYNTHS - 5 - Here are sounds that started as a piano, but were transformed into synth sounds outside of Omnisphere and then brought back for further mangling. The Lobby Piano requires Omnisphere 2.5. The library will be released on Wednesday the 30th of January 2019. I have a free set of 10 patches available at: https://www.manmakesnoise.com/freebies
  21. I spec'd and built every PC Sweetwater sold for the first ~3 years. Note that I was always freelance (not an employee). 😉 We're still on good terms. I (like many of you) buy a lot of gear from Sweetwater. If you go to GearFest 2019, you'll probably see me there looking at guitars.
