  1. It's always a pleasure to listen to your tracks, and this is no exception. I find this inspirational, and there is much to learn from this in the way of production. Keep the ball rolling!
  2. Another one of your "magical mystery" trips into the past. I'm just sorry that it was over so quickly My advice: don't stop what you're doing.
  3. Fabulous! This is not an easy song to cover - from the arrangement to the vocal, but you made it sound easy. This has always been one of my favorite songs, but I like it even better, now. Carry on!
  4. Mark, I've always liked this song, but I now like it even more. You are faithful to the original, but you manage to make this your own song. That's what I look for in a cover song. Now I want to hear the original version again, so you made me a fan of the Goo Goo Dolls.
  5. Terrific song, Rex! Sometimes, a simple arrangement is best for letting the elements of a mix shine like this one does. I especially love the harmonica, as it gives the song a folk element that speaks to me. A+
  6. Nigel, thanks for dropping by and your good suggestion! The kick will rise!
  7. Thank you again, Kurt! Steve, you really know how to flatter a guy Thanks for your support!
  8. Thank you so much! Tim, I truly appreciate you kind words and support over the years! Merry Christmas! Jack, I remixed this song and hope that the solo pops a bit more. Thank you so much for your time and ears! Happy holidays!
  9. As the others are saying, you have mastered this style of music, which is very therapeutic to me. Having the ability to raise one's moods is very valuable, and I'm so happy that you can share this talent! Keep up the good work and happy holidays to you and yours.
  10. This seems way too short, as I was left wanting more. After listening to you, I often tell myself that I should try some Celtic music, myself. I love the flute rising from this like a wisp of wind. In spite of all the technical aspects of this mix, you made it sound easy and natural. Superb! Merry Christmas to you and yours, and stay safe!

    my anger

Wow, what an interesting song! It's edgy, with a little Nine Inch Nails vibe thrown in for flavor. Panning the vocal from center to side is cool and helps to change the mood of the song. I'm kind of hoping that you have more planned for this because the intro lasts nearly a minute and a half, and just repeats the riff over and over. An instrumental or guitar solo would help there. Also, I'm missing a bass guitar or synth to put something in the lower register, which is pretty light, unless that's your intent. All in all, this is quite a concept song, and I hope you don't mind my 2 cents worth.
  12. Bjorn, thanks for your ears and comments. You are on target about the busyness of the background, and I have remixed this to help sort things out. Hope its works. Happy and safe holidays to you and yours! Paul, cheers to you and thanks for your comments. Much appreciated. Tom, thanks for listening and your kind words! Wow, I always felt the TP was a kindred spirit of mine. Thanks for listening to LOVE KEPT THEM TOGETHER, too. I haven't posted this one yet, but probably will soon. John, thanks for you kind words and time. I hope it's just my voice that's clipping and not the recording, as I usually record the vocal way under 0db. I, too, just recently started monitoring my mixes over my iphone, and it helps quite a bit. Happy holidays to you! Kurt, thanks for taking this song for a spin! I'm quite shocked by the Zappa comparison because I've seen him in concert, and, well, there's no comparison. But, thanks! As for the bass and drums, I did remix this, so we'll see...
  13. Thanks, Douglas, for your kind comments. It took me over a year to mix this, and I still don't know if I'm done. One thing I do know, it's been a pleasure trying to keep up with your output! Steve, I'm so happy to hear from you! Since you heard this, I remixed it with your words in mind. I hope it's a little closer to completion, now. Happy wishes to you and yours over the holidays, too.
  14. Tom, I always look forward to your insights and thank you for your time and reply. I remixed this since you heard the first pass, trying to address some of your commentsk, especially about the guitars. As to the vocal, I did more of a boost at 3k than usual using what's supposed to be an Abbey Road EQ. I'm just glad it doesn't sound harsh. BTW, I just bought Sonarworks for headphones to help with my mixes because I knew my Sennheiser 300's may have been tricking me. What pair did you get? Kenny, I appreciate your kind words and encouragement! Yes, it is a bit of escapism from this crazy year and may lead to further escapes into the unknown. Keep up your terrific work and happy holidays!
  15. Hello to everyone! This has been a good month, so far, of songs here at this site. This is a song that I wrote about a year ago but never posted. I got some new toys lately, and remixed it to the point where I'm finally somewhat happy with it, so I decided that it's time for all of you to weigh in on this. It pays homage to my love for science fiction, so take it as a mirthful song. Once again, thanks for your help and time. It can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8b1ln remixed last on 12/29/20: mainly raised the drums volume and some more reverb in places and less reverb in others.
  16. I don't say this very often, but...it ended way too soon. I always enjoy your guitar synth, but your lead guitar tone is stellar, as always! Well done!
  17. Glenn, you've written a good song that's fun to listen to. The lyrics are catchy, and your vocal is pleasant. There is a lot of texture to this song that catches the ears, which I like, but at times some of the parts sound like they're not quite part of the mix, in general. IOW, this mix doesn't quite blend together as one; it's lacking some kind of "glue" that holds everything together. For instance, the piano sticks out volume-wise and is somewhat staccato when it might make more sense played legato, but that's just my 2 cents worth. All in all, this is a song waiting for a good mix that would make this stellar.

    Sahara

Nice one, Kurt, it transported me to northern Africa! I was left with wanting more, which is a good thing. I'll be back to listen again.
  19. Terrific song and performance! The acoustic sounded like it was in the room with me. Can't wait to hear more from you.
  20. John, I have been having my own problems with the Start Screen, too, so I think there may be something to this. It only started a few versions ago and coincided with a Windows update, so who knows? I'll be paying attention to this.
  21. I'm a member of this school of thought because I'm a do-it--yourselfer, and, for me, mastering begins with tracking. It starts with choosing the right mic, preset, amp, plugin, drums, samples, instruments, arrangement, etc. Get it as close as possible, but don't worry too much until the tracking is complete. Then I do as much as I can in the mix to make it sound polished and balanced by treating the individual tracks and busses. I then create a 24/48kz mix without compression, but with an image widener and EQ (to reduce mud) added in the master bus as needed. After that, I run that mix through a limiter to get the volume at a commercial level and dither down to 16/44.1kz. I don't disagree with any other method, it's just that this works for me and saves time, and it may work for other do-it-yourself artists. It would be a different set of rules if working on someone else's material recorded in a different studio as mine.

John, thanks for your time and kind words! I wasn't aware that I gave two descriptions of this song, but both events coincided, and I finished and posted this song on my wife's birthday, so there you go. Glad to hear your new song and hope to hear more!
  23. John, this is terrific! Very sophisticated, cool jazz with an amazing vocal performance that has a place in the Steely Dan neighborhood. Your mix is well panned and arranged. I don't know of anybody who could have done it better. The lyrics are very nice, too. Nice going!
