  1. Tom, this tune is a sonic amusement park! Oh, so clever and fun to listen to. The video is terrific; your patience paid off. I don't ever want to go back to tape, but I still have all my tape recorders, and I keep them in good repair.

Sweet! Very balanced and spacious. Wonderful arrangement!
  3. Audacity, a free, stereo wave-file editor, may be what you're looking for. Check it out here: https://www.audacityteam.org/
  4. Thank you for your input! I really don't like the genres that Soundclick forces you to use, but Indie might be the most appropriate. Your words are very encouraging! Hi Jesse! Thank you for your kind words. No horns in this one, but I did use a different guitar that I normally use: a 1992 Epiphone Sheraton. It has a wide palette of tones. I put up the lyrics in my original post to answer your question. And, you're right about the family gathering scenario! Thanks for you thoughts and time, Steve! I've only posted on Bandlab a few times, but maybe it's time again? Again, thanks for the compliment. Thank you, Nigel, for raising the bar so high around here. There are so many people here getting better all the time that it's hard to keep up.
  5. Thanks to you all for your input! The chorus in this song is the section that ends with "it's not the same", but it is different in each verse. Not the typical approach. Mark, those times you pointed out are sections that have been juxtaposed, and may be a little jarring, though this was done by design. Something for me to consider. Steve, I am going for a warm mix with detail, but whether I achieved my goal is up to your ears (and others). And, to KSband, good idea! This is why I've been sitting on this song for months, and I'm glad to have so many talented ears to help.
  6. Merry Christmas to all my CW friends! I hope you're all well, and gearing up for a better year. Here is a song I wrote a few months ago, which I just put the finishing touches on. I'm finally ready for your opinions, advice, and suggestions. Without going into great detail, this song is about that one person in a family that just can't stay out of trouble, and drags others into their drama. This is my attempt to sugarcoat it without hiding the facts. I'm curious to know how it sounds to the casual observer. Thank you in advance for all your help! It can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8m3nd Here are the lyrics: It just so happens that you’ve been here before You’re in no hurry to open that door There was a time when you just couldn’t wait You’re never early cause you’re usually too late Things are different now It’s funny that we change somehow Do you remember how I always had your back, I took the blame You always told me not to worry when you attack, it’s not the same Just as soon as you work up the nerve I’ll be happy just to throw you a curve Anything to upset your plans Unless you’re trying to get sober again It not the same as it was I’m less afraid to put up a fuss Did you think that you would always get your way? Have you no shame? And, now you’re crying because your life was thrown away? It’s not the same BRIDGE: You suddenly realize you’re past your prime Your fortune left you without a dime Now there’s no one left the hear your pleas And, you don’t know how to bend your knees Sometimes a person has to go it alone Life eventually wears you down to the bone It takes some courage to keep going on You better wake up before it’s all gone It all boils down to this Sometimes we swing, and sometimes we miss When life is harder than it’s ever been once more, alibis are lame You should belearning how to get up off the floor – do you know your name? Winter’s coming, and it’s closer day by day – stay near the flame You think it’s better if you don’t get in the way, but it’s not the same (It’s not the same 2x’s)
  7. I'm glad I didn't miss this. I have thought many times that you have a Paul Simon quality to your voice and songs, which I find very inspiring. Good job, Steve, and all the best!
  8. What's not to like? The bar is raised again.
  9. Fabulous! It stays with me, as well. Best to you and your mother.
  10. I like the song very much, and I think the mix is smooth and pleasant sounding. My only suggestions are to turn up your lead vocal a db or two, and widen the stereo, as it seems very narrow to my ears. Otherwise, it can stand on its own, as is. Good songwriting!
  11. Very nice, Jack. This shows off your skill in writing cool chord progressions and arranging them. I enjoyed the listen!
  12. This is great, sophisticated pop music! Like you once said: "listening on headphones, pro sounding...." You've raised the bar for all of us.
  13. It takes a lot of skill to handle delicate music like this, and you did a great job with this production! I guess I heard the latest version, as the vocal is at least equal with the other parts of the mix. It's all clean and spacious which leaves room for the listener to fill in the spaces. Participatory music, so to speak. The video is well done, too. Keep it going!
  14. This is a very nice song with a beautiful message that deserves to be heard a little louder, maybe 2-4 dbs. I think that if you put it in people's faces, it will be a very impressive song!
  15. This is a terrific song that's searching for a terrific mix. The drum issue has been brought up, and I agree with those observations, and I also think that the drums should be at least as loud as the guitars. This song is looking for a driving kick and snare beat with body. I also had trouble locating the bass guitar at times. As mentioned before, your lyrics are inspired and deserve to be heard! Turn those vocals up above the instruments (slightly), and you'll be in the ball park. I enjoyed the unpredictable middle section, which makes your arrangement a step above. A few more tweaks and this will be stellar.
  16. Here is mix #4: https://soundclick.com/r/s8n3ik I rethought the arrangement, per Paul Bush, and came up with this. I ping-ponged the gtr in the intro and dropped the guitars from the pre-choruses altogether. This song has come a long way thanks to all your good ideas! I'm glad I'm not in a vacuum!
  17. That's music to my ears! I did spend considerable time mixing on headphones, though, good suggestions from everyone keeps pushing this in the right direction. Thank you so much! Hi Fred. I just listened to your marvelous "Lucille" and what a treat! I really appreciate your words, as I was in the dark for so long with this. As for the ending; it was one of those situations where I combined one song with part of another. A shuffle married to a boogie. Antler, thank you for your kind words and suggestion. I just posted mix #4 which tinkered with the drums and other elements as well. Maybe it'll be closer, though I will tinker with your ideas, too.

I second this! Your creative juices are better than ever! I went the distance with this and was shocked that it seemed so short. I want more!

David, you are one of the most unpredictable songwriters going! Having spent some time in Portland, I was really interested in the first video, especially since the music seemed a departure for you. Then I was "hey dawg!". For whatever reason, that resonated within me on a visceral level that surprised me. Another leap for creativity!
  20. Way cool, man! I'll be coming back to this site until I hear them all.
  21. You hit the nail on the head, Jesse! I wish that I had written this song. I want to share this with a few people
  22. You chose a great song to cover, and using the Everly's arrangement is the way to go if you're not Little Richard. You captured the essence of this song in your own way, actually, with your unique guitar playing and sound. Really tasty! Your vocals sound like something coming from the speaker of my dad's 1956 pickup am radio. You give nostalgia a good name!
  23. Cool, I must be going in the right direction. I very much appreciate the SRV comment, as I have listened to him a lot throughout the years, however, lately I've been listening to Gary Moore. I knew about him all my life, but recently started watching his live videos on YouTube. You're spot on about the drums, and I must constantly keep reminding myself to hit them harder. Many thanks! Thanks Wookie for your kind words! I appreciate your notice of the lyrics, as I tried to make them as universal as possible. There has been a lot going on in the lives of the people in my life and myself, too. You're not the only one who noticed the density of the mix. I originally wrote this as a five piece band: 2 guitars, bass, keyboard, and drums - something that a good garage band could play live. However, Paul Bush encouraged me to give this more thought, and that's my goal for this weekend. Thanks to all, and stay tuned!
  24. Paul, thanks for your input and time! I'm in no hurry to finish this, and all the suggestions I've received have been good. I take your words to heart, so stay tuned!
  25. Many of your songs are hauntingly beautiful, and this is one of them! Great job on stretching your voice and arrangements, and trying out new ideas all the time. We can all use some of that.
