  1. Update: I took Toms advice and made some adjustments to hopefully help when streaming from SoundCloud. Hope this one is a little better. This was inspired by Kenny's post the other day. He graciously posted the piano backing track that he had played over. I happened to have my guitar in hand, and started playing over it when I was listening to the piano track. That's how this got started. I wanted to just have some fun, but as I got going with the project it just grew into it's own thing. So I made a deadline yesterday that today by noon that would be it! I will make the deadline, but I used almost every minute of it. : ) It's done all in Cakewalk. I used CW, Waves, IK plugins for the fx. I used Jamstix for the drums and that's the stock drum sounds. And of course I welcome any and all comments. I'm here to learn and have some fun. Again @Kenny Wilson, thanks for the inspiration. I really enjoyed doing this. : )
  2. I listened to this the other day. I thought to ask (but I really didn't want to go down that road again! LOL : ) if that was you using the volume knob or it was the guitar synth. Because I can't make out where the synth is. IJK. I am thinking it's the part with what sounds like vibrato/tremelo? Listened to it at work the other day and today I listened again on my monitors at home and I could really hear much more definition here at the house. Really good playing Kenny. Great touch as always. And nice tone.
  3. Brian hit the nail on the head.
  4. Can't say I am a fan of Ace, (I do like his stuff) but down here in Louisiana they play that (although a little faster) along with other songs by Van Morrison and others and call it Swamp Pop! That song would fit in, if it was played a little faster!! I enjoyed the song Freddy along with the Slinky Girl one. Listened to them both. I like you guitar playing. And your tone.
  5. It's a good song Bob. I always like your tone. You got it nailed. The song started rocking from the beginning. I must admit that I didn't get the out of time "shift in gears" that everyone else did. I thought it was a rough mix that you put out and would smooth the edges out later. It's got a good groove to me except when it comes to the 'shift in gears' fills. Lyrics definitely gave me some thoughts about back in the day when I was out there just roaming around!! Ahh.. them ol days!! Still Bob, I always pretty much like all your stuff. You rock out man!!
  6. Those two uses right there is what I was thinking of.

I'll post back. But it may not be till later today, likey tomorrow before I can get to it.
  8. Ever seen it go on sale around BF? Might be one of those 'wanna items'
  9. Yep, that's what that was!! : ) It was an interesting listen. I listened to it before I read the comments. As I listened, found myself trying to pick out what was what, and realized almost at the end of the song that it's mostly just a bunch of noise... arranged rhythmically..... which is what all music is. Then I started thingking this must have been the same thought process that the older generation went through when they first heard rock-n-roll. Then the next song came on and broke my concentration!! : ) That said, I thought you did a good job with it.
  10. Has anyone tried this product? Has anyone worked with other products like this? I guess the real question is do they really work well!?

    The New Illuminati

Yeah ya fixed it. When I listened to it today, I didn't even notice any lack of the bass at all. Good trk overall. Ya'll did some nice work on this.
  13. Good tune Rex. I must have heard the remixed/fixed version because it sounds good to me as is!! I thought the harmonica was a good addition. Helped create a folky vibe. : ) The vocals sounded good, fit right in with the song. And to me they stood out well. Didn't have a problem hearing them. Which means they are out front! In a good way.

    On Second Thought

Great work on the pinch harmonics. Love the tone, as someone said, that signal chain is a keeper!! I liked the break in the middle, and the harmony lead that you put in. Great work. Did you play the bass? Sounds like it. Mix on everything sounds good. Like @Bob Oister said, nice and clean.

Good tune. Enjoyed listening. Drums do need some variation. A roll here and there with some splash. Maybe switch to a ride for the outro. Not a whole lot, just a little would go a long way.
  16. I liked this. You must have remixed and put the piano more up front because it sounds perfect to me. Really good work and a wonderful tribute to your father. I liked how it built up, came back down, then up again with the final ending becoming quiet and calming. I liked the ending. Very well done.

    Opposites

Late to the party on this one. But I think it deserves to be remixed. Agree on the originality of the song. Great subject nicely thought out and conveyed. But like others have said, them vocals need to be more up from. Daryl said it best.
  18. Yes we did! In fact it was me that suggested the retake. Gary said he thought it was a good take. Even said others had made positive comments. I asked again for a retake. But I left it ultimately up to Gary, and he said that was a wrap! In hindsight, that was the right call. I would have blown it!! : )
  19. Agreed on the sharing part, thanks! I thought the mix was really good. Music and all singing was in time. Really good work to get it like that and not make it seem like it was 'fixed'! In fact, I don't even remember hearing any type of tape hiss at all. And still the old audio came through without sounding like it lost anything. Good job.
  20. Thanks Bob. Means a lot. It really does. Simeon's piano work is over the top I thought. He really got it right. It's just top notch. The strings are very expressive. His work with the choir voices really stepped it up at the end. He just did an outstanding job. And Gary mixed this really well. I mean he put a spit and shine on it that I just couldn't believe when I heard it. When he sent me the first version of his vocal, I listened to it on my cell phone. And even on that device I could hear he did something to the mix I sent him! And I told him, you must have done something to the mix, cause I can hear the difference. Then he also got it mastered. Can't thank him enough. : )
  21. Who made that excellent document!? I would like to put it in my google doc, but there is no button to d/l.
  22. Yep, really good place to get some songs to work on. Worked on quiet a few of these. Anyone wary, it's a liget site with no malware.
  23. ARS3 uses NX Headtracker software to do it's thing. They work hand in hand.
