  1. Zargg, how's the footie? I need to go now. I don't plan on being NAGPAPPED. Yes I said PAPPED. He has big ones.
  2. Just for the record- Kenny I will never shake your sausage. Hmmmm.....are we explaining the secret handshake to women? I guess they only shake one finger?
  3. We disgust the women and they all run off. In order to draw them back in we need to show our better sides. Yeah, I know that might not be possible. Statistically I don't believe there are nearly as many female mixing engineers. The ones there are might be on a mac using PT. Prolly pink Macs with perfumed fuzzy stuff all round the studio.
  4. Glad you are back MUDGEL. Best wishes your way.
  5. Not sure why. I just haven't been round as much. Seems similar. Lots of the same chaps here. I think I've just been busy. When everything is working there isn't as much to complain about. Remember all of the bug complaints and the crap that went down over the " free lifetime" updates? It seems everyone is out of steam now. We're in a Cake holding pattern. I guess I could go record something.
  6. So I spent some time recording a few tunes yesterday and this was one of those. I used a low end ribbon mic first into an old ART MPA2 preamp into a Focusrite 18i8 I'm getting this really annoying high pitched resonance in the sound. I know it isn't the mics. I changed to different mics and had the same issue. I tried different inputs on the interface to make sure it wasn't a bad input. I played with the gain staging in the ART and the Focusrite. Problem never went away no matter what I did. I tried repositioning the mics. That made no difference. I was using the recording program that came with my camera. I'm beginning to think that maybe since it records in mp4 it's adding some bad stuff to my signal? Anyone else have similar experiences? The only modification I did to he audio was I could only track in stereo off of the Focusrite and it's usually best to track violin in mono, so I had to make a stereo track into mono so that both speaker would play the audio. The problem was present before I did this. Yesterday trying to do this was like chasing monkeys around the room, Bapu no direct references here -Firstly, Cakewalk would import the video and I could make the track mono but I couldn't get it to export into anything that would play. -I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 16. That program would not let me track direct from it, I kept getting exceptions over and over again after I changed everything I could think of with respect to audio resolutions video types etc. Nothing worked. I'm using a pretty common Logitech C920 video camera. I upgraded the program thinking it would help. It didn't. -I have two or three basic video editors. A few would not import the video. One did import it, but the programs are all too "dumb" in audio editing. Not even enough basic function to make a stereo track into mono. You know which program imported the video, allowed me to edit the video AND the audio and export with zero issue? Acoustica Mixcraft pro 8. Vegas crashed and burned on this one. Cakewalk wouldn't export. It's an Mp4......shouldn't have been overly difficult? Does anyone know how to remove the nasty harmonics/resonance from the Logitech MP4? I think this may be the issue.
  7. At least they know their scales....I hope.

    The Mystery

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the comments! I guess you can tell I haven't been around these parts recently. I'm still trying to get the feel of it here. Maybe it's all of that orange?
  9. That's a cute clean one. There are a few out there that aren't kid worthy. Like this one which is one of the nicer ones.
  10. The last one I did I had a set of jewelers screw drivers and they were too big 😲
  11. I can't help but wonder if maybe Cakewalk isn't adding some more info to identify the audio codec. If you take video out of the equation and only looked at the audio, then any wav will be out of sync with it's Mp4 copy because of the codec information added to it. Are you bringing in a wav at the beginning of the mix? Until this is resolved I would likely keep the wav file and simply realign to it.....or use Vegas.
  12. I have only had a starved computer once and I told myself never again. Absolute minimum 8gb ram and that's playing Russian roulette. Cakewalk should probably change that minimum requirement, granted if you're only mixing two tracks it's probably ok. I typically do all of my builds with 16gb minimum. I think Jim probably sees clients asking for 32 and 64gb. For most home studio needs 16 is fine. Laptops are finicky and aren't the best things to upgrade, granted you could probably land some more memory on the cheap if it's older, especially if you find someone selling used memory from a parts machine. If you aren't used to disassembly of a lappy I strongly discourage trying to do it yourself. If you have the confidence and think you can find the hidden screws go for it. If it's a "nothing to loose" situation then it doesn't matter if things go south during the assembly/disassembly or the loss of those teeny weeny screws I have done it, but it isn't fun. If you do it wrong screens can be broken cables can be pinched You might conjure cuss words you thought you had forgotten years ago.
  13. Yes and no. If you have Cakewalk set up right you should be able to drag and drop loops same as Acid Pro. This is the thing though, you need to have those resolutions set up the same so that when you drag a loop over in Cakewalk it behaves the same. In Acid Pro you don't need to think about this as much, which in a small way makes that process easier for some people. If things aren't set correctly for loops everything won't butt up seamless and you might be in a different key or loops might overlap/be slightly out of time.. No DAW is perfect but Acid Pro makes it easiest IMHO. Pretty much set to go in it. I've already missed settings and some loops didn't align because I had the wrong time or resolution set. I think Cakewalk wanted to give you more options there so the functions can be seen as either something you want or a PITA all depending. Good of Cakewalk to offer these options. Gets even more complicated when there are tempo changes. You could argue that this is user incompetence or user error. I see it more like a few less steps in the creation process. Sonic foundry originated the Acid loop technology so it only stands to reason they do it best I guess If only looking at the specs between loop technologies Reason or REX loops is the winner when looking at the stretch algorithms for sound quality. I never got into Reason though and this is strictly speaking of the on paper spec which might be different than what your ears hear or care about.

I guess I'm behind the ball here. I admit to not really getting a meaning from it. Trying to make sense of that video? Good video though. The elements all mixed well. I especially liked the trumpet parts around 3: 29 and after. The mix came through crystal clear on my end.
  15. I take it this isn't a sad song. Has a nice uplifting feel to it. Great mix Gary. I hope to hear more. I only wish I knew Norwegian good enough to tell what they are saying. Oh well.
  16. Excellent vocals . Very reflective music. To me the strings seems just a bit much. Wonderful work here!

    The Mystery

Thanks for the comments guys! I agree bjornpdx. After a few more listens I think the harp is a bit under done. Kloon, you are not the first to say you didn't find the music totally relaxing. I had another person say the same thing making me reconsider the whole approach since that was my goal. I don't want to clutter up the songs thread, so I'll post another recent example of the Elysium harp here. Note that I haven't used a fraction of what it can do yet. I usually prefer to play my harp parts in without any arpeggios.

    The Mystery

So I was basically trying out Elysium harp and made some mood music......or meandering whichever you prefer to call it. I still don't think I've work with the harp enough to understand it totally. This is intended to be relaxing music. The Mystery-
  19. Keep at it Kenny we need you are here for a long time to come.
  20. That's one of the things I like about this forum, we can be so frank and it's mostly guys so no one minds. I'm glad you made it out ok and all is well. Thanks for letting us know. I had some serious stuff going on not long ago and thankfully all now seems well. I'm no worse for wear as a result. Unfortunately a few of my friends recently had some bad news. I consider myself one of the lucky ones, though I'll admit being brought into the operating room and looking at the robot that was going to open me up was scary. It looked like some kind of an insect with like 3 small arms on each side of it. The doc sits at a monitor and never touches you. He works those pinchers remotely looking at a camera. They put you on the table inclined so all of your insides go toward your head. This is actually beneficial because the holes they need to make are smaller. They cut something out and sewed something back where something else was and now I'm repaired. I pee really well now lol. If my house ever catches fire I think I could put it out.

When I mix cello it's usually on the lower strings so I'm probably not the best listener for this. I might try viola instead if the parts are higher. The last take almost sounds like brass to me at the :40 mark. The thing I like about cello are those nice deep harmonics and overtones. Anyways, good luck! May the best sample win.
  22. My old DAW needs a serious clean out but since I built my other DAW I don't give it much thought. I would basically need to load a new OS because my old OS on it is corrupted which means it takes a long time to boot up and get my Acid Pro 7 to even start. For this reason only I think it would be a great idea to upgrade to the 64 bit version and load it on my newer DAW. As to the answer to the question , Why would I want Acid Pro? Maybe you wouldn't , maybe you would. It all has to do with what you want to do. The interface is bar none one of the easiest ever to put together a loop based mix and makes it worth the coin to a few. I haven't heard the new loops. The other loops are beginning to sound dated. If I jump though I don't really want the studio version. I'm going whole hog for the pro version or nothin' at all "If" they knock off a considerable amount if you own studio that changes my thinking on it some.
  23. This probably isn't the library for the dude who only spent 100.00 on his interface. Nice libraries though. Maybe one day I'll lay out the cash for this. Definitely on the back burner.
  24. Interesting discussion that I recently read elsewhere that a piano isn't really in tune. Since it needs to space 12 equal tones out a few are off here and there. If a violinist plays with a piano their perfect pitch might be off compared to the piano tuning. In order to play along they need to play out of tune or have the piano custom tuned.
