About Me

  1. @John Vere Yes, I am only using a .wav audio track. I am using Cakewalk because I can create a Playlist that loads the next tune but waits for me to initiate playback. What do you use? I am also still using Cakewalk because I am planning to have a very brief MIDI track at the beginning of each tune to change the Patch on the keyboard automatically without me having to do it at the beginning of each tune.
  2. The tune is a take on The House of the Rising Sun – which is actually an ancient folk ballad (16th or 17th century), not written by The Animals as I'd always thought – with new Nativity-based lyrics. And two guitar solos, because. BTW, while I (showing some degree of restraint!) haven't posted most of them here, I've produced 20 Christmas tracks of various sorts over the past 2 years. They're all in this playlist, if anyone's curious: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtwxdNkCVKIcvub4tOCOFVJgGGCFMp9k4
  3. This is the link to my playlist which in the first 10 videos you’ll be an expert ! watch for the end screen links that takes you to the next video in the series.
  4. There are some excellent tutorials in this playlist. And the first post in this topic will link you to the last PDF manual, which is easy to search.
  5. Ya I abandoned Sound Cloud a few years ago as it seems to be declining. I like that on Sound Click you can easily update a song. Only reason I put this song on Sound cloud for now is it’s a work in progress and I seem to have a lot of followers on Sound Click now so didn’t want to contaminate that playlist just yet. I sort of use Sound Cloud for music that I do for fun. I forgot about the Uncle Stuff that was our band 12 or more years ago. It was a lot of fun but the Drummer moved away and we never found a suitable replacement.
  6. Hi, I'm considering using VSTi's in live performances with Cakewalk. I don't know how to begin. I'm familiar with using Cakewalk for home studio recording, but it's totally unclear how I should use it live. Basically, my idea is to have 1 cakewalk project for each song. I think I can benefit from the Playlist feature, Cakewalk's documentation will help, that's totally fine. However, there are several requirements that I have no idea how to achieve: I might need to have multiple sounds (either from the same VSTi or from several VSTi's) controlled from one unique keyboard at the same time, either layered, or split, with sound A at the bottom of the keyboard, sound B in the middle, sound C on top, or maybe sound D on just one key, etc. I might need to have multiple keyboards or controllers connected to Cakewalk, and each keyboard should be able to control its very own sound setup. I might need to switch from one sound to another, from a specific keyboard, during a song (rather than between songs), and in this case, I'd need to be able to do that without loading another project, rather by using some key or click instead. Are these expectations realistic? Any tips to begin?

  9. Update January 31 2024: Good news for people whom English is not their native language. I figured out how to add sub titles to my tutorials even after they are published. It will take a while to complete them all but this works brilliantly as you can now read a very basic script and follow along in your chosen language. So far I did the 2 last ones I published. https://youtu.be/eQWPVc6azHc and https://youtu.be/AKsvOP87yGw Update note Jan 2024: All the basics for new users should be here including step by step on recording a song. I will be redoing some of my old videos I took down due to errors and reposting those as well. I will also be slowly adding all the Transcripts for the narration on my web site for those who like reading. They can also be used to translate into other languages. https://sites.google.com/view/cactus-studios/cakewalk-tutorials https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7YqVth30eGsURWrKGeu-fFyg3ETjF-Ox
  10. If you Open the midi file Cakewalk automatically inserts the TTS-1 and your midi file will play. If it is a GM midi file the correct instruments will also be assigned. This video explains how to use a pre made midi file. I have a few other videos that explain how to edit midi as well my playlist https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7YqVth30eGsURWrKGeu-fFyg3ETjF-Ox&si=0y1uOWy6ysV5tgVo
  11. Now that I have the Everything Bundle I've only tested a tiny fraction of all the new presets, but so far I like quite a lot of the presets. I added almost every preset from Bluffmunkey's expansions for Synthmaster 1 to my favs. Big Tone's Analog Basics 1 and 2 for Synthmaster 2 has plenty of gems. So true. The demo tracks and descriptions give quite a good impression of the expansions, since they're only made of those presets, except for the drums usually. What I like about the expansion demo tracks that they have on Soundcloud is that quite a lot of them have the names of the presets that were used in the track comments, assigned to the track timeline where they're used. That's astonishingly little. Have you really tested all presets? After having read what you wrote I had another look at the factory presets and actually found quite a lot usable. There's a Soundcloud playlist and a YouTube playlist with demos of the factory presets that they've made for Synthmaster 2, with tracks demonstrating their use across various genres: Expansion playlist on Soundcloud for Synthmaster 2: Expansion playlist on Soundcloud for Synthmaster 1:
  12. Here a link to my covers playlist. Thanks for your interest!

  15. My playlists are crashing Cakewalk when loading the next track after first one has ended. Minidumps are too big to attach.
  16. I don't use the playlist, so I can't answer your question, but I know the question of changing font size for various other things things in SONAR/Cakewalk has come up in the forum. As you may know the company that makes Cakewalk by Bandlab is in the process of developing two new products, Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar. Perhaps one of those will include the playlist feature. From what I have read, the UI experience will be very different from SONAR/Cakewalk as we all know it. I don't know if you looked up the question of changing font size in general in the forum. If not, here's what I did to find related posts. Using the forum's search features: Chose "Home" (upper left of Cakewalk Discuss to set the widest scope for the search). You could also choose "Everywhere" in the Search Bar's dropdown menu. Typed "font size" in quotation marks in the search bar (upper right on the same line as "Home"). I hope this helps until someone comes along who uses the playlist and can answer your question.
  17. Thank you ! Here is a link to our first album with the song Lady Alibi but since then there have been changes in singers, we only have one singer, Agnès. https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_klBiVH7D97kYQgywgOEMEXB3Ml9NyVC1Y
  18. Partial Changelist New "Plugin Manager" window Take control of your plugin collection in a powerful new way: You'll find the new "Plugin Manager" in the Window menu The Plugin Manager provides a complete list of plugins that were found on your system, and data about each plugin's scan results. New standalone scanner applications for VST and AU plugins will scan your whole plugin collection without danger of crashing Mixbus. The new scanner dialog allows you to skip individual plugins without canceling the whole scan process. Or set the scanner to auto-timeout while you take a break, and come back later to re-scan those individual plugins that wanted some user input. Sort and filter your plugins by name, brand, tags, or format. Tell Mixbus to Ignore troublesome plugins so we won't try to load them at all. Mixbus loads AU, VST, VST3, and LV2 format plugins. Choose the format that works best for each plugin, and Hide the ones you don't use (but might be used in some existing sessions). Next-Level Playlists Sweeping new changes to Playlists include: Global playlist actions like "New Playlist for rec-armed tracks" allow you to record a new take on all tracks that are record-armed, whether they are in a Group or not. You'll find these actions in the Track menu. "Copy Playlist for All Tracks" will store the timeline state of your arrangement, edits and automation. You can later switch between them while leaving your static mixer and plugin settings intact. Select a track and click "?" keyboard shortcut to open the Playlist Selector dialog. Click any playlist to listen to the alternative takes of that track, OR... ...change the scope to "ALL Tracks" and you can switch all tracks that have a matching playlist to your selection: if you recorded a take of the drums and bass together, you can switch the drum and bass playlists together even if they aren't in a Group. Create the perfect vocal or guitar comp: Create a new empty playlist and call it 'comp'. Then use the selector to switch between different takes and move the best take to your comp playlist. You can even have more than one comp playlist to compare with each other. And like the other playlist functions, you can edit multitracks with ease: by group, rec-armed, or ALL tracks. Read more in the manual! Varispeed Recording (Mixbus32C only) Varispeed recording provides traditional tape-style varispeed techniques: Slow down a recording by one or two semitones, and play along at the lower pitch to master a tricky solo, or retune a song to match a singer's range. Change the recording by a few cents and detune your guitar to match: now record a shimmering doubled guitar without having to use a different guitar for each pass. A blinking red indicator shows when the Varispeed dialog is operational. Click the VS button to enable and disable your varispeed settings. Your setting is remembered so you can revert to regular playback for auditioning, then re-enable varispeed for additional recording passes. v7.1 includes dozens of other user-requested Improvements:"Slip Contents" editing modifier Hold Ctrl+Shift (or Cmd+Shift on Mac) to slip the contents of a region without moving the region start/end points New shortcuts (mac shortcuts shown; check the menus for windows equivalents): Ctrl+0 = Toggle Region Opaque { = All {selected} tracks switch to "overlaid" layer view } = All {selected} tracks switch to "stacked" layer view | = Raise to top layer (was Ctrl+0) Playlist actions: : = Copy playlist for selected/grouped tracks Cmd + Ctrl + Shift + : = Copy playlist for rec-armed tracks Cmd + Shift + : = Copy playlist for ALL tracks “ = New Playlist for Selected/grouped tracks Cmd + “ = New playlist for rec armed tracks Cmd + Ctrl + Shift + “ = New Playlist for ALL tracks ? = Show/Hide playlist select dialog box for selected track < = Start Recording with Pre-Roll > = Start Recording with Count-In Cue Markers in Regions Right-click in a region to add a Cue marker Cue markers display the embedded cues in imported midi files Cue markers are a good place to add comments or lyrics Cue markers move with the region, and copy/duplicate with it "Promote to timeline marker" converts all region markers to location markers in the timeline New "DSP Stats" window Window->DSP Stats Helps troubleshoot DSP usage Calculates the worst-case DSP usage New: Region loudness normalization/analysis (same feature as the master-bus loudness analysis, but applied to a single region) Export improvements:Updates to loudness normalization New with-limiter option lets you specify an export target with a higher loudness than your mix, and the output will apply a fast limiter to keep your peaks under control while increasing the level to meet your target.
