Feature: Partial clip gain via control shortcut + selection
msmcleod replied to Josh Wolfer's topic in Feedback Loop
CTRL + drag should work, but you need to be dragging from the lower half of the clip. The next release will have a key bindable shortcut for toggling between clip gain & clips, so watch out for the early access.... shouldn't be too much longer now. -
Is Combining MIDI Take Lanes Possible?
msmcleod replied to razor7music's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
There's two ways of doing this: -

I normally click on the track number to select the whole track, then right click on the clip and "Bounce to clip(s)".

Best thing to do is send an email to: support@cakewalk.com

Feature: Partial clip gain via control shortcut + selection

That's already been done for the next release... keep an eye out for the next early access release. -
From the File menu in Cakewalk... File->Import Audio CD Then pick your track.
-
Yep, @John Bradley is correct - reference tracks are just commercial tracks that sound like what you want your own mix to sound like... so just scour through your CD collection (if you still have those) and pick one or two that most closely match what you're trying to achieve.

The short answer is no, you can't do this at the moment. You could get around this by using some 3rd party "Synth Rack" type plugin that will host the plugins for you and make them appear as one.... so it is possible to say, use Cantable to host the synths along with a virtual MIDI / Audio cable (e.g. loopMidi or loopBe / VB Audio Cable). You'd lose a bunch of features like native parameter automation etc (unless you mapped CC MIDI values I guess). You could also get around this by sampling your VST synths and playing them in a single VST sampler. In both the above workarounds, you'd simply use a program change to change sounds... however you need to ask yourself whether it's worth the effort compared to just having another track. There's a third option I guess... create a third MIDI track which has LINKED copies of both the verse & chorus clips in it, and use that one for the staff view. You'd mute this for playback, but any edits you make in it would automatically apply to the original tracks due to the clips being linked.

I need some advice and tips from fellow crap guitar players
msmcleod replied to synkrotron's topic in The Coffee House
After 38 years of playing, I certainly should be a lot better than I am ! Keys are my main instrument tho, everything else I get by on.... -

msmcleod replied to synkrotron's topic in The Coffee House
I have guitar issues from time to time... not so much soloing, but I have a nasty habit (due to lack of practise) of bending strings out of tune when playing chords, or getting mutes/buzzes from not barring properly. When this happens, I record each chord shape / phrase separately, either in different takes or different tracks.... then merge them back in to the one track afterwards. Any odd tuning / intonation / timing issues can easily be sorted with melodyne. -
... or use Melodyne ! Fixes all my intonation issues.

No definite date yet I'm afraid, as we've got a major amount of documentation and localisation to complete. I anticipate an early access release to be announced within the next couple of weeks though ( no promises tho, as it's not my decision ! ) I can confirm that fixes for both the snap & the right click issues will be in that release (i.e. you no longer need to hold CTRL to multiple drag or get the full context menu). The downside of the right click change is that right clicking will no longer clear the selection (this was in fact the original cause of the issue). So you'll either need to left click somewhere where the no-entry sign appears, or use CTRL+SHIFT+A to clear the selection.

Fastest way of importing and normalizing audio for 20 singers?
msmcleod replied to Hans Tan's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The fastest way is probably a compressor... however, compressors tend to colour the sound of the vocal somewhat. Equally fast is something like Waves VocalRider (or any of the alternatives: https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=521181 ) Personally, I'd run it through Vocal Rider first then add a small amount of compression afterwards for colour. -
Forced a complete plugin rescan and it's now working

Slip Editing - Bug ? ...Or Expected Behviour ?
msmcleod replied to Mark Morgon-Shaw's topic in Feedback Loop
Have you checked the note off is being received by Kontakt using the MIDI Monitor? -
I installed Studio One 5 today. Looks pretty good... but I tried inserting Scheps Omni Channel on a track and it just refused to insert. The other Waves plugins I tried seem to work fine. Any one else having this problem? I'm running the latest version of Scheps (works fine in CbB btw).

Slip Editing - Bug ? ...Or Expected Behviour ?
msmcleod replied to Mark Morgon-Shaw's topic in Feedback Loop
The note off's are definitely being sent, however I find a lot of these Kontakt libraries continue to play the phrase long after the note off has been received. The easiest way to confirm this is to enable the MIDI monitor on Kontakt: The only answer is to slip edit the clip more, or see if there's a setting in the Kontakt instrument that controls how quickly it reacts to the note off. For example in Electric Sunburst, the setting is here: -
EZ Tune-Up: Delete ALL from picture cache
msmcleod replied to user390096's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Yes, deleting the picture cache is pretty harmless as they will get regenerated when you next load your project. However it doesn't regenerate them every time, it'll only regenerate them if the audio has changed or the the picture isn't there in the cache to begin with... otherwise it'll use the existing pictures in the cache. It's probably worth clearing out the cache from time to time, but too often will increase the time it takes for the project to load if it's having to regenerate them all the time. Especially projects with lots of audio clips. -
Korg, Roland and GAK fined millions for price fixing.
msmcleod replied to X-53mph's topic in The Coffee House
This is verging into politics now... locking this thread. -
It was on sale for $29, but it's now back up to $174. I grabbed it a week or so ago. Audio plugin deals do this - they have a deal running for a week or so, then it's gone... I've never seen anything go back to their "base" price regardless of what rewards you have.

We'll look into this. For the moment, a workaround is to disable Autocross fade when nudging on the comp track. The thing is though, once you've nudged a clip the cross fades no longer make sense. The clip you've nudged has now overlapped the adjacent clip far more than a normal crossfade, so you'll have to adjust the fade manually. This is especially true when dealing with clips in multiple lanes.

Cakewalk Doesn't Release When Closed
msmcleod replied to Moving Air Productions's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Cakewalk closes fine for me with Scheps Omni Channel. The version I'm using on this machine is 11.0.60.49 : I'm just checking for updates now..... Ok, just updated to 11.0.64.135: Cakewalk is still closing fine for me.
