  1. Welcome to the forum. Almost 2 days and no responses. I'll give it a try. Before you inserted a software synthesizer (VSTi), did you hear anything while writing MIDI notes? What were you using to hear the notes? A MIDI keyboard? Microsoft's GS Wavetable synth? What is the MIDI track's output set to? It must be set to the VSTi. What is the VSTi's output set to? It must be set to a valid output; if it's set to S/PDIF Output 1 and you don't have anything connected to the S/PDIF output, you won't hear anything. Do you have an audio interface or are you using the computer's sound chip? Any audio must be channelled through whichever you're using. What is your computer's operating system?
  2. For 1 track? Point the output of the MIDI track to a different synth.
  3. Or, as I do, don't use take lanes. 😁
  4. The army has a vehicle that can carry a squad's gear and follow them wherever they go on foot, stopping and starting when the troops do. I saw a baby carriage (pram) on the news last week that will follow the parents, stopping and starting as they go. I would never use one of those, but I'm sure many parents will. I imagine a speaker that, when the gig is done, you just press a button and it rolls itself out to the van and loads itself in it. Like R2D2.
  5. I started with Cakewalk's Music Creator 2003, then CWMC Pro 24 and my most-used DAW, Cakewalk's SONAR Home Studio 6 XL. They were all pretty similar, functionally. When Music Creator 6 came out, Cakewalk gave me a copy (thanks, Cakewalk!), presumably so I would use it and comment about it in the MC forum, in which I was active. I couldn't get used to the new ways of doing things and never really utilized it to its full potential. I've had CbB for several years, but am still using SHS 6 on my ancient computer, but am trying to digest as much info about it as I can here for that day...

    Fades don't work

I would. Eventually, you're going to have to render all your MIDI to audio if you want to listen to the song on anything other than your computer. In fact, I render almost as soon as I record, just to eliminate cumulative soft synth slowdowns (on my old computer).
  7. I wonder if this setting will affect Melodyne notifications?
  8. Have you tried using the Insert menu at the top instead of putting it in the effects bin? That's so 2002.
  9. Wow. Another one gone. Saw him ~1981 in Santa Barbara. Great show.
  10. Do you mean the DAW known as Cakewalk by Bandlab (CbB) or the phone app Bandlab? Windows updates often change your settings without warning. Did you check the inputs to the track you're recording to?
  11. I had a high school class called "Alienation and Discrimination" back in 1974. The lyrics of "She's Leaving Home" were in it, the first time I recall seeing a pop culture reference in a textbook.
  12. Sound Blaster Extigy. A good box, one I used from '02 until '05 when I upgraded to a Focusrite Saffire.
  13. As easy as clicking a few buttons. You can Bounce to Track each MIDI/VST track creating an all-audio project, archiving each track you don't want to use, or Bounce the entire project to a single audio track, which I think would be simplest. That way you can archive all the other tracks, but still have them available for change in the same project.
  14. Learned "Strutter" with this band I played with in high school. I had no idea it was KISS.
  15. Glad you got it working and welcome to the forum. Why are you using 96 kHz?
  16. Personal preference, of course, but that's one of the first things I turn off.
  17. Finally! Something to sink my teeth into.
  18. The easiest way, I think, is to grab the upper corner of a clip, either right or left until the cursor becomes a triangle. Drag the triangle left or right to create the fade. Right-click it to change the shape of the fade.
  19. Currently, I am in Raleigh, North Carolina. Really, a little outside the city. An unincorporated part of the county. Closer to Garner, actually. Fuquay-Varina is trying to muscle in and annex the area. I guess I don't know where I am. 😵

    Can't activate account

Welcome to the forum. I wonder why you have to sign in to use Cakewalk by Bandlab? I don't have to. Do you mean you're trying to download it and can't log in? Or do you mean Bandlab?
  21. I have never touched that "Display Automation on" setting in 20 years of Cakewalking, and it still pops up in the Insert menu as the default. It may not have had it way back then. Music Creator Pro 24 doesn't. SONAR Home Studio 6 does. The "Ask This" box refers to the entire Insert box, not just the "Display Automation" setting. If you have the settings the way you want, you can uncheck that and never see it again, unless you want to change things.
  22. I heard a line of dialog from a TV show the other week and have been trying to put it in here even though it's not a line from a song. It should be. Pam, talking about her co-worker Cyril, "His ba!!s are made of pu$$y".
