  1. I know of someone with thousands of post on the other forum, but 99% of those post were one word replies to someone else's posts. Big deal! Very little edification.
  2. Your mother would be proud of this. You have a way with melodies that stay with you for awhile. Keep up the good work, John!
  3. I love this recording because it makes me feel like I'm in the room with you. I feel this in my chest as well as my head. Very well done!
  4. This is a terrific song - the kind that I like to listen to. The main thing that stood out to me was the brightness of the acoustic and electric guitars. Perhaps a db or two of 200-350hz would warm up the acoustic. I agree with Will about changing mics, but other than that, this song is a gem.
  5. "Thanks and you too Lynn - don't forget you owe me a colab!" Yes, indeed! I just updated my thesaurus!😊
  6. David, I've always been impressed by your chord progressions and melodies. This song is brilliant, from its sparse arrangement to its terrific performances. Jen's vocal is truly rich and amazing. This is the first thing I've heard all day, so I'm looking forward to a good day.
  7. Happy New Year to all. May we all be prosperous and creative this year!
  8. James, it's good to hear from you. I took your suggestion and remixed this just minutes ago with the piano down and slide up. I hope this helps. Thanks for your ears! The Downstream, I agree with you and took your advise. Much appreciated. ZincT, thanks so much for your kind words. I hope you like the remix, too. Today's mix (1/1/19) is here: https://www.bandlab.com/lynn_wilson/build-a-wall-80486
  9. Tim, whether or not you think this is finished, it's vastly different from what I've heard from you. Don't give up on this because the lyrics are quite good. I've had songs that just didn't make sense until one day when I had that epiphany that changed everything. If it doesn't come right away, move on to the next song. Have a prosperous and creative new year!
  10. Very retro and very cool to listen to. It's time to welcome reverb back to the modern mix. Few people here can master as many styles as you do, but you make it seem easy. I'd love to see your record collection. Happy new year, James!
  11. Skald, if you sing harmonies to a lead vocal, you can use Melodyne Studio to show all vocals at once, then you can pitch correct, and phrase correct very easily. If your backup vocals are not phrased correctly, you can use the lead vocal to realign the start and end points of your backup vox. You can even stretch or shrink a phrase to match the lead vocal. The same is true if your aligning any other instrument like doubled lead guitar lines. Very handy if you work with more than one part at a time.
  12. Melodyne Studio and Midi Guitar 2 are the big ones for me. Being able to trigger samples from my guitar without modifying the guitar is invaluable. I'm just now starting to learn and use Superior Drummer 3, which seems to be a big advancement for non-drummers like me.
  13. Today (12/29) I remixed yet again because I felt that I hadn't got quite enough drums or vocal in the mix. Also, I changed amp models for the slide gtr. Here is today's version: https://www.bandlab.com/lynn_wilson/build-a-wall-80486
  14. I can only add to the praise for this song. I like the way you keep your mixes clean by not cluttering them up. It really makes mixing so much easier. Your works never fail to bring a smile to me, as well as your impeccable delivery. Have a prosperous new year, my friend!
  15. Larry, that was fun to hear, very nostalgic. It has authenticity because Specter’s recordings were done in mono, and this has a somewhat narrow spread for stereo. I like your voice on this as I have on other songs of yours. Happy new year!
  16. A little secret...I wasn't the first to write about Icarus and Humpty Dumpty.

    "Lagrima"

Wow, short but sweet! I envy your finger picking skills; I've never been adept at that. I've enjoyed you other videos, too. Keep inspiring.
  18. Bjorn, the music and video matched perfectly. This kind of music is very relaxing, yet it evolves and has subtle changes in texture and tone. I think it has very high therapuetic value and would be a good end of a stressful day. Or, the beginning of a relaxing day. I'm very impressed with your versatility. Gotta bet back to Arvin!
  19. I agree with James, this is one of your better tracks. In spite of your impressive arsenal, it would be nothing without your expertise. Happy new year to you, Dan!
  20. Not only is this a very cool song, but your choices of guitar tones and licks makes this sound very professional. Your voice is perfect for this, and I look forward to hearing more.
  21. Sorry about losing this post. I'm uploading a new mix to Bandlab, as Soundclick free doesn't allow me to replace a file easily. I'll be back in a few minutes with a new version. OK, here is the newest mix using all your suggestions: https://www.bandlab.com/lynn_wilson/build-a-wall-80486 I turned the vocals, drums, and harmonica up. Bjorn, the backup vocal is just the lead vocal doubled and panned 20R. Dan, thank you for your kind words and time. Kevin, I took your suggestion. Thanks! Larry, more drums! Will, thanks for taking the time. I looked up your references because I'd heard of them but wasn't that familiar with their ideas. They are all vastly more talented thinkers than the moron that inspired my song (my uncle Albert). Anyway, though the lyrics may not appeal to you, I applaud you for wanting to hear them better. I hope this latest mix helps.
  22. I got some very good suggestions here, so I remixed it this morning with new drum parts in the verses. I took Larry's idea of putting the snare on 2 & 4 which definitely helped. Very easy to do in SD3. I pushed the vocals up a notch and lowered the piano a tad. I posted this in mp3 format on Soundcloud, so take that into account, please. Thanks to Larry, Daryl, James, and Wookie for your ears! 12/28: I replaced the Soundcloud version with a new mix on Bandlab which is here: https://www.bandlab.com/lynn_wilson/build-a-wall-80486
  23. Tom, thanks for the useful suggestions. I took your advise and lowered the piano and raised the vocals. I also took some of the mud out of the slide guitar. As for the edit, it's hard to tell. I don't quite hear it on this end, however, this is the first time I ever uploaded a 16/44.1 wave file to the internet so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. It can be found here: https://www.bandlab.com/lynn_wilson/build-a-wall-80486 p.s.-I'm not sure if the preview is working or not. I just tried it and got no response as to whether this link works or not.
  24. Sorry about the link. I replaced it in my original post, but here it is: https://www.bandlab.com/lynn_wilson/build-a-wall-80486 Bjorn, I was wondering about the volume of the vocals. I will soon do a remix and repost it here. In the meantime, I have another project to learn. Skyline_UK, thanks for listening and your kind words. Remixed 12/28. I replaced the Soundcloud file with the Bandlab version above.
  25. Hello to everyone here at the new forum. I've been out of commission for a while due to a leg injury which kept me out of the studio and unable to record until recently. I can't tell you how much I'd been itching to get back in front of my computer to write some new songs and use some of my new toys. In this song I used Superior Drummer 3 for the first time, and I ran my bass guitar through Midi Guitar 2, triggering a bass sample from Dimension Pro, something I'd never tried before. It's a song about your favorite narcissist, and can be found here: https://www.bandlab.com/lynn_wilson/build-a-wall-80486 12/28: I replaced the Soundcloud version with an update to my Bandlab version which can be found in the link above.
