  1. @mark skinner @garybrun Guys, this just sounds excellent ! , vocals are clear, mix is smooth to listen to . . . a well written song (and the awesome guitar work captured perfectly) . . . I've heard all the mixes, as it went along, and where you got to is simply amazing . . . congratulations !
  2. For sure, one key shortcuts can do damage . . . I remember the "O" key used to enable (and disable) Offset Mode . . . great way to wreck a mix if you hit it by mistake, and carry on not noticing. Though my fav single key shortcut, that I learned here on this forum years ago, is reprogramming (in Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts) the < and > keys. These can be set to cycle through the project Markers, no damage done.
  3. Well, the samples are real, and it's composed and presented by a real person . . . real enough for me, enjoyed it ! Interesting that I "think" I can hear the difference between the Indiginus sampled and the real Alvarez guitar . . . I think it's mostly in the sustain of some notes. The composition alludes to a jazz guitar playing staccato chord patterns . . . the real guitar seems to nail those staccato notes better, but a very subtle difference indeed, especially the way you've mixed it.
  4. Sounds great @Ross Smithe !! Super collaboration, all the parts come together perfectly, really enjoyed this modern take on an old classic . . . your vocals really do it justice as well, well done !
  5. For sure, folks who love the software will pay, I never believed free could be sustainable . . . I'm just saying, looks like it's moving towards more of a partnership with BandLab, brand new marketing plan, and Cakewalk will have to re-join the reality of the DAW wars, and find and develop new features to stay afloat.
  6. I believe you can cancel the Backstage Pass at any point, if something else is offered that makes more sense for your personal situation, limited time demo if you want. In reality, it's only a discount of about $5.00 for the first month. Anyways, it's a chance to support BandLab, who have offered an amazing free DAW for 5 years, ain't that worth something ? . . . especially if you want to continue working on your existing, and older projects. For those of us who have made the plunge to new Sonar, we get it, it's totally clear where things are going after working in the new version for a few weeks, the new clarity is not just the vector graphics, it's also the less cluttered GUI. Everything is in the same place, just a few adjustments visually. Bring on the feature enhancements.
  7. Well done, well written guys . . . now that's a chorus ! Lynn really jumps boldly into the spotlight for that guitar solo, really excellent I thought. In my studio, on my Tannoy Active monitors, the mix sounds great . . . I like the drums and bass right where they are in this latest mix. Also thought the vocals, and particularly the lyrics are quite engaging, rounding out a simply great tune to listen to !
  8. Right click on freeze . . . freeze options, whole new discovery . . . thank you @OutrageProductions !!
  9. So, you freeze a track . . . and it renders to audio. All the plugins in the FX Bin go dim, presumably meaning they have been applied to the audio render . . . yet, you can still open the plugins in the FX Bin, and even make changes, which of course have no affect, because they are frozen. Why not have the software disable even opening them ? I'd like to know the reason. After all . . . only morons will try to edit frozen plugins, right ? If you try to add another plugin to the frozen FX Bin, it lets you do it . . . why is it even possible ? After all . . . Curiously, you can still edit / change the automations of frozen tracks, so those are independent of the freezing. It's just something I've always wondered about, and has tripped me up a few times, wondering what happened to my mix, if I dare to unfreeze.
  10. Nigel . . . good to see (and hear) your hard work has paid off, and thanks for posting your milestone of progress . . . much respect for what you do . . . and hope you'll keep posting your stuff here, and keep inspiring all of us !!
  11. @Lynn Wilson @Bajan Blue @jwnicholson78 Thanks guys ! . . . for your upbeat comments, always good to hear, and very much appreciated !!
  12. Thanks for listening @Makke . . . glad you liked it
  13. @garybrun . . . Thank you for your ears ! . . . yes, I'm the guilty mixer here The vocals are running through a Nectar 3 vocal chain with dynamic EQ, de-esser, saturation, reverb (with rolled off highs and lows), small hint of compression, but it also it uses an Auto Level setting . . . which is very touchy . . . I'll have a closer look at that.
  14. Thank you so much Mark ! (LOL it's a Yamaki, not a Yakima) . . . I did also wonder how to do this with a full band, harmonies, solos in the instrumental sections, maybe another version will be discovered some day. I kept it simple mostly because the music part came so quickly (for a change), so kept it the way it arrived. Thanks for your support and listening Bruce
  15. @Wookiee . . . thanks for your listen, and mix confirm . . . when it's just guitar and vocal, seems you still have to sweep out some low end, and I played around a lot to find the right amount.
  16. Jack, great you had a listen...thank you...
  17. Thank you Tom . . . always appreciated !
  18. @John Vere . . . perfect sounding mix, very balanced . . . mandolin and vocals really hit the spot !
  19. Fascinating stuff ! . . . can I place my order now for a Martin D-19 Guitar ! (when the technology improves past Ukes) Also, the recording, Uke playing and overall sound of your mix sounds excellent, high end positive vibe thing . . . really enjoyed it all !

    Off My Mind

Yes Jack !... I found this a very interesting listen, for sure your mixes have improved, and the lyrics / vocals against the musical arrangement changes are really effective . . . very well done !...

    Night Shadows

Hey @Makke . . . yes, something very different from your usual guitar thing . . . classical, minor key, very moody . . . well done !
  22. Hi all , another new song . . . it's a collaboration with one of my favourite UK songwriters "Wicked Deeds" (as he's known on Soundcloud) . . . been following him for a few years, and finally got an opportunity to do something together. Just simple, 2 guitars strumming and vocals for now . . . might expand it another day . . .
  23. Sounds great @subvibe . . . lush thick mix with really interesting guitars and synth washes, great modern pop vocal sound . . . a laid back and chill listen.
  24. Many of us had to have a "plan B" in 2018, and many here have mentioned money spent elsewhere . . . but we were also able to keep moving forward with the Cakewalk by BandLab free version, which ain't no sub standard DAW, and only ripened on the vine over the last few years. Agreed, the DAW is not going to get the attention or priority of engineering resources from the Mr. BIG corporation . . . but BandLab seems more solid than the last few business partners Cakewalk had . . . so, what should we music creators care, as long as we have a pathway to the future. Nothing is going to end, we can still open our older projects 5 years from now, right ? (he says hopefully) . . . it will just cost more . . . yep, more than free.
