That's really cool - I never knew there was a do nothing command - and if I ever saw it, I wouldn't have had a clue could be done with it - LOL nice one.

I don't typically use heavy metal style guitars - but I do a lot track aligning. I still find that discreetly splitting tracks and manually aligning clips is the best method. The new algorithm used in elastic audio is really very good especially in the context of small clips. With that- you can stretch small segments and clips to create the often needed sustained sections. The bigger issue with heavy metal guitars is that they are typically compressed like crazy and distinguishing between stops and starts gets more difficult. Once it's done with precision though - it's pretty amazing how good a semi good track can sound. Also - there's no such thing as a real sounding guitar VST - just saying.

I'm still confused as to why when first opening a project - I get a flash of the last saved window arraignment then it reverts back to whatever screen set was last saved. My preference would be to open the project as left the last time it was saved and closed. Is this a difficult task to have an option of last saved state when the project was last saved or closed? Seems as though it is saved in some fashion if it opens at that state then loads a screen set.

I have songs in archives that are 25 years old. I still like to bring them up and find new techniques or replace instrumentation. I'll be danged if I get through 3 passes on it and I have to close it out. They're good songs and hold up over the years - but my brain is just way to saturated on them, even after a year or two hiatus since the last listen.

Noel - thanks for that info - I've never tried to stretch multiple tracks or clips across multiple tracks simultaneously.

I haven't tried this myself - so I'm hypothesizing, I think the way to address this is to alter the tempo map. It should act as a master offset of sorts for all tracks and hopefully not alter the phase relationships.

I've encountered midi drum playback failures when the note durations were extremely short. This was using Battery on an older system though But, maybe worth looking into. I set duration's to at least 40 - 50 tics - makes them easier to see in PRV as well.

Wow - this is the first time I've heard of this type of surgery. Amazing that you were able to pull this off. I'm in a situation where I inherited a DAW from a family member that passed away. We both had pretty similar DAW set-ups and had a number of software packages duplicated. Our main DAWS of choice were different - but we both had a couple of common DAW packages. I was able to contact a couple of the software companies and able to change licensing on a few, but I don't have the capability to port over all licensing and I'm feeling stuck with an older WIN7 install - even though it operates pretty efficiently and is robust. I have never held hope that I could possibly update hardware and OS software and come out unscathed. - Your post gives me some hope - thanks.

Do all tracks have envelopes?

If - for example you needed to re-build your PC and re-install Kontakt again - would the saved patches /sample paths stay current to a project ? Does Kontact know where to look for the samples? As an aside : * Rant Warning * I'm not a big fan of Kontakt myself : though I use it often enough to keep some older libraries alive - I haven't updated in a number of years. I would rather they kept the individual libraries alive and not rolled everything into Kontakt. Sorry - I think it's very clumsy interface for many very basic things - and digging in deep is a cluster ( my opinion only.) I love Battery - it's my staple drum program ( still on battery 3 ) - and Elektric Piano - B4II - etc. I have the older Acoustic Piano selections as well which I thought was decent. I have very little use for the other 70,000 instruments in Kontakt though - and feel it's a big waste of space and an expensive cluster to keep current. Obviously I use it mainly for real instrument emulation - not much for the synthy bleeps and blorps kind of thing. The latest snag was the new requirement for me to update my video card to use Native Access. They're not making more money from me because of simple basic backward compatibility issues.

I think when you see the * : that means the project has changed in some way. Saving a scene does alter the project.

Excellent - thank you . Do you know if there are any headaches to switch wrappers? I'm pretty sure I'm running bitbridge and may have uninstalled J-bridge by accident some months back. I'll see if I can find the J-bridge installer - ( hope it's named something recognizable )

Anyone know how I can check which wrapper is being used? I have a DAW that was inherited - and I don't have all the details and minutia for what was installed and being used regarding plug wrappers. Is J-bridge integrated with the CbB install ? and used by default?

Yes the time grid defaults to -active - : Often the first thing I do is set to -inactive- and then everything is fully moveable : I wish there was a way to save as a default setting.

Thanks Craig - I looked at my original tracks, and If I recall - I probably started this off using an midi file for basic drums and keyboard chords. I've tossed these tracks about for a while - but they do stay relatively aligned to the grid in PRV. So - maybe a good sign ? and- I did drag the CD audio track up the Melodyne and it created a tempo map based on what I assume is it's specific timing. There is continuously changing map - varying roughly 118 to about 124 . I'm assuming this is a decent start. I save off as a copy to junk around with. Of course now all audio tracks are off tempo (as I assumed would happen ). The MIDI tracks however are close enough to work with. This gives me a start - Thanks very much.

I've been a long time user and have always worked in real time - never employing a snap or grid or quantizing - on purpose by the way. I have a version of JOSE ' that I worked up a long time ago. It's currently a working version made with recorded guitars and bass - and has midi accompaniment for keys and drums. In this instance, I loaded up the original CD track after all my basics were in place and use it as a reference for mixing and editing only. This is home studio stuff for my own education and fun. Can anyone recommend any comprehensive videos or tutorials for creating a tempo map from the original CD audio track and though probably in a very painstaking way * re render my audio and MIDI tracks to align closer to the original real tempo map? Most of what I've seen are a clips that explain the basic tools - but doesn't show an application like this. I imagine Midi alignment will be much easier to manipulate to the new tempo map - but I have not gone through that either. I'm not looking for perfection - but I'd like to go through the excersize of learning if it can be done and maintain reasonable audio quality. My basic assumptions going into this for the first time. I would select a portion or all of the cd track. Create an FX region to work with in Melodyne for tempo map extraction ? Render it back to CbB to create the new tempo map? Select small portion of my recorded audio tracks and somehow align audio transients to this new tempo map? Am I even close to understanding the basic path to do this? -
