  1. To my ear it sounds like a snippet of the singer's vocal was isolated and played in some way, such as by using a keyboard.
  2. Bring back the simplicity of I-IV-V (and minor variations)
  3. Connections: (1) Soup mixes are often flavored with flakes (parsley flakes, etc.). (2) Flakes references Bob Dylan. (3) Flakes includes an impersonation of Dylan (by multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Robert Martin, IIRC)
  4. In an interview with Dan Dather from a few years ago, Lee references his hobbies. Also, his brand new 4-part documentary series touches on his hobbies as well as those of the four bass players he asks, "Are Bass Players Human, Too?"
  5. There have been several discussions about this in the forum. Due to issues with Windows 11, Cakewalk by Bandlab no longer lists it as a device. Sorry, I never used it, don't remember the name of it, and therefore can't do a search for the other discussions. UPDATE: Pure guesswork, but I found one of the threads: NOTE: The second post there references this post: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/65864-closed-cakewalk-202309-early-access-updated-to-build-62/page/4/#comment-469452
  6. Thanks for providing the steps. You saved me a lot of time searching for them.
  7. "I've spent more time hunting down plugins than I do making new songs..." Yes, and then I remember a strategy I learned in school related to poets choosing a specific form to use for different poems: Pick one and see what you can do with it.
  8. Yup! And some manufacturers have decided not to implement even CC controls. I was disappointed that a couple of PSP Stomp Boxes I pick up were ones from after they updated their products to exclude MIDI. I never became fluent with automation, but I suspect they do work with automation. I do understand how automation technology works and have used it, but turning a knob or moving a slider is easier for me and is more ingrained in my brain. Maybe Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar will make automation as easy as using knobs and sliders mapped to user CCs.
  9. FWIW, I just created a very simple Voltage Modular preset that takes CC 18 from my usb keyboard (coming from Cakewalk) converts it to a CV to change the A|A|S Player's patches when the player is hosted in VM within Cakewalk. Likewise, CC 18s recorded or placed on a Cakewalk track hosting VM can be used to switch patches.
  10. I remember a time when none of my VST3s responded to Program Change commands but their VST2 counterparts did. Then (using Voltage Modular's Plugin Host module and Mini Plugin Host module) I saw that some VST3s did expose the Program Change command. I haven't explored this in a while but the A|A|S Player (for example) does. Thus the knob and Control Voltages can be used to do Program Changes. Off hand I don't remember which VST3s I have do and don't support Program Changes, but I have found more plugins do than previously. IIRC this does not necessarily mean that Cakewalk will process the command. I'd have to check, but I recall having issues in Cakewalk. Not sure if that has changed. UPDATE: Unless I am missing a setting to enable it, the VST3 version of the AAS Player still does not respond to Program Changes in Cakewalk (the last version used) when inserted as an Instrument. However, when I inserted Voltage Modular with the VST3 version of the AAS Player as an Instrument, the Plug-in Host module's controls do change the preset but incoming midi commands don't. To me this might suggest that Cakewalk is syphoning off the incoming and recorded program change commands. (Just a guess because I have no idea what Cakewalk does with midi under the hood.)
  11. Looks snazzy! Is this a paint job like I did with the multi-colored transport module display or have you accessed hidden functionality? In either case, kudos for the creativity!!! Long live theme tweaking!!!!!
  12. Just addressing this ^^^^ point about the size of the download linked installer. I remember reading (probably an official post) that the download link lets the installer decide what updates to be installed depending on what the user has / doesn't have. I remember there was also an explanation of how to get the webpage to download the full installer. I do not remember what those steps involved, but as I recall they worked. Not sure if that's still the case today.
  13. 2023-11-27 REVISION: Yesterday, I replied with with a link to the official site at https://www.cakewalk.com/sonar saying there were FAQs at the bottom of the page. Then a couple of posts came in related to what was posted there. So I wrote, "See replies below." My thinking was that maybe the FAQs were based on the early details from several months ago. My original intent in referring to the FAQs was that in case they were still accurate or if they were later revised, the link had the official statement. After that even more posts came in that seem to call into question the answers in the FAQs. So, now I don't know who to believe. I originally thought about cutting pasting the FAQs and the answers, but I was too tired. So, to put the following discussion into context, here are the FAQs (reformatted as forum text): How do I join the Cakewalk Sonar beta program? The Cakewalk Sonar beta program has limited seats at this time. To join the beta, please fill out the beta application, and we'll follow up with you soon! Is Sonar replacing Cakewalk by BandLab? Sonar builds and improves on Cakewalk by BandLab, offering advanced technology, effortless workflow, and an interface that amplifies inspiration. You can still access Cakewalk by BandLab here, but it will soon be phased out. We will continue providing community support and maintenance for Cakewalk by BandLab until both Cakewalk Next and Sonar become publicly available. Existing Cakewalk by BandLab users will be able to continue using the software after the release of Cakewalk Sonar. In the meantime, Cakewalk by BandLab continues to be available here. Will Cakewalk by BandLab be discontinued? Yes, eventually. We will continue providing community support and maintenance for Cakewalk by BandLab until Cakewalk Sonar becomes publicly available. At some point after the release of Sonar, Cakewalk by BandLab will no longer be supported. Note that existing Cakewalk by BandLab users will be able to continue using the software after the release of Cakewalk Sonar. In the meantime, Cakewalk by BandLab continues to be available here. Will Next and Sonar be free like Cakewalk by BandLab? Next and Sonar will be offered at price points designed to meet the needs of different customers. More information will be provided as we approach the launch date for these new products. What are the differences between Cakewalk Sonar, Cakewalk by BandLab and previous versions of Cakewalk SONAR? Cakewalk Sonar represents a new brand identity, introducing a significant UI refresh with high DPI display support, feature enhancements and a platform committed to ongoing feature development. The latest capabilities of Cakewalk by BandLab will carry forward into Sonar, along with a continued focus on performance and stability. While hundreds of improvements have been made since SONAR Platinum was discontinued, Cakewalk Sonar will be able to open projects created in SONAR and Cakewalk by BandLab. Will installing Cakewalk Sonar overwrite Cakewalk by BandLab? No, the two applications install to different locations on your file system, so they can coexist on your computer. JMO: To me the FAQs seem clear, unambiguous, and truthful. At the same time as a long-time user of Cakewalk / SONAR / Cakewalk, I do not want to tell others what they should believe, why I believe (opinion) the FAQs already address concerns and speculation, etc. I do not want to leave the impression that I was endorsing the reservations others later posted or stifle healthy discussion. I hope by reposting the FAQs today, I make up for having been too tired to repost them last night. BTW, I have reproduced the embedded links to the beta application and to the download for Cakewalk by Bandlab. I tend to take people at their word, including forum participants from users to staff. Happy CyberMonday Shopping!!
  14. Note: I got it to work. I assigned it to the U key. I had an issue at first. I think it's because I have custom workspaces and I might needed to change the keybindings and resave my workspace. So to test initially, I used the None Workspace. Then I will double check tested my theory to see if I needed to resave my custom workspace.** **UPDATE: Confirmed! I first needed to resave my custom workspace with the new keyboard shortcut binding.
  15. Would this help? (I haven't tried it, but maybe it would meet your needs.) The image on the right is from Preferences > Customization > Keyboard Shortcuts. That's the place I use to look for default shortcuts and to assign my own.
  16. Inspired by @Old Joad's Them Changes post in the song association thread, now listening to this: Wikipedia article on Buddy Miles
  17. When they upgrade to a new version, what do they usually add? All Vintage Synths that have been released since the Vintage Synths that were included in the previous version? New Vintage Synths that were not previously released? Non-vintage Synths? Thanks for any insights into Arturia's past behavior in upgrading the V Collection.
  18. If so, they probably can't talk about it.
  19. As someone who purchased Syntronik, Syntronik Deluxe, Syntronik 2 SE, Syntronik Syner-V, and picked up all the others except for the newest one (via a Syntronik 2 Group Buy and an upgrade to Total Studio Max 3.5), 30 currency units is by far the best price for a megaton of varied synth sounds. It is between 1/5 and 1/4 of the combined of cost individual products I purchased (excluding the pro rata cost of TS Max 3.5 which added Syntronik 2 Full to my set of products). Note: This is not to say IK won't come out with something that includes more, is improved, and has a lower price per component ratio in the future. Standard pros and cons notwithstanding (you can find them elsewhere), over the span of several years I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the synth sounds, jamming with them, developing lines, progressions, larger compositional structures with them, etc.
  20. Check Third-Party Vendors for other prices, perks, virtual cash, etc.
  21. MSoundFactoryLE for $26 is the lowest price I can remember. But you might want to check third-party vendors. Plugin Boutique is showing me $22, plus they have a choice of freebies (Choose 1 out of 5 with purchase). You can only use the new-user referral code at Melda's site, though. Might be worth your while check other sellers, esp. if you have virtual cash/rewards someplace. Only you can decide which combination of cash + perks is best for you, but I don't think it would hurt to look around--unless you wait too long. Taxes vary, too.
