    Uganda - video

Douglas, Freddy, Ed D, Bob, kakku, Daryl Thanks much for the comments, esp for finding that the soundtrack fit the video! I kinda thought you like monkeys, Daryl.
  3. Freddy I think you've captured that traditional delta blues sound. Really liked that little guitar riff in the background and the lyrics (nicely sung!) exemplifies what someone like Mississippi John Hurt would have done. Best of all IMO is the harmonica, both the tune and the playing. Well done!
  4. Daryl The unmistakable sound of Daryl and the Staypress crew. A likable bouncy tune with a bit of humor, very nice. The mix seemed a little too much on the high end to me, but that could be the headphones I'm currently using.
  5. Steve Love the weeping synth in the background. On first listen it seemed to be the usual boy loses girl story, but then there's "obsession" and "her misery" and "I wanted more" so maybe the song is more about the woman leaving a bad relationship. Anyway, I like the song. You have a way of setting a mood with your music.

    Ordinary Day

Olivier Very nice song, well sung and played. Very good mix too, the guitar and vocal are very clear. The fade out at the end is a little too long and I found it distracting. I think a more traditional ending would work better. Just my opinion.

    Uganda - video

Thanks Tom Yeah we did see ebola warnings in a couple of places near the border with DRC and we were in the same general area as the American woman and her driver who were kidnapped, but I still think it's a very safe country. Well, it's safe except for the way people drive over there.
  8. You tell a really good story with characters we've probably all known at some time or other. It's hard to move the narrative along with short verses and a strict meter, but you did a nice job. Really liked the ending that sums up what Jimmy is all about.

    Uganda - video

Thanks. Have to say the trip was a bit of a splurge but worth it for the experience of seeing a whole other world beyond your familiar and comfortable day to day life.

    Uganda - video

Uganda https://vimeo.com/329705018/38f2178ab5 A friend of mine talked me into signing up for a group tour of Uganda. It was for bird watching mostly but also for viewing animals in the wild that you usually only see in zoos. So here's a slide show of the photos and videos that I took over there last month. The soundtrack probably isn't very African sounding, but I like it. Zero G Voices of Africa NI West Africa Stylus RMX Omnisphere Bolder Sounds Buffalo Drums Thanks for listening.
  12. Paul I like the straight up pop sound that you do, reminiscent of 50s and 60s songs (you know, when music was good) Must have been difficult to write the lyrics and yet worth it to get the words out. I'd like to suggest that you change the "that broke" to either "who broke" or "you broke" Just sounds better IMO.
  13. Bob, You seem like a nice guy and yet you play that hard rock and roll music. 😁 Great guitar playing as usual and you write great lyrics, especially for the genre. Wishing you a lot of success. Just realized you sound a bit like Billy Idol in a couple of spots.

    Lonely Walk

Gary Ditto on the above comments on the volume. Had to crank it up at the beginning then down again at the end. But it's a really nice somber piano piece which evokes a lot of images. I thought the strings came in at an appropriate time. The drums made me think of marching soldiers and impending doom - well done there. There was a brief violin flurry thing at 5:30 that took me out of the mood for a second. And I expected some kind of resolution at the end, but things sort of just stopped. Maybe still a work in progress? Anyway, I really enjoyed listening to the song.

Kenny I just meant that the Ken Burns effect (panning and zooming on a still image) can be really distracting to the viewer if overdone. A little bit goes a long way I've learned. You, my friend, are never annoying.

Daryl I'm starting to see myself in those vintage B&W photos! Kenny I actually do a lot of Ken Burns style editing on videos. There's a fine line there between effective and being way annoying. 😀 amiller Bittersweet. That is a good description. Thanks for listening. Tom As always, thank you for commenting.
  17. Your uncle Nigel bought another album, Andy? Kidding! Congratulations!
  18. Yeah, I was surprised how far away you were from the mic but seemed to work out okay anyway. I suppose the mix could be improved but there's a lot of software out there to help out if you don't feel up to it (like me 😃 ). I was trying to picture my family involved in a music video - never gonna happen. Really nice job on the video as well as the song!
  19. I didn't expect a vocal track on an ambient electronic song, but it works very well. Really like the spacey background vocal. I think I would add a bit more reverb or delay on the main vocal track to make it bigger and grander.
  20. One of those songs you can't figure out but you listen to it over and over because it's so engaging. Seemed like such a happy tune for maybe a somber subject, but not sure about that. Lyrics are great! "stationed at the end of the dial" Love it.
  21. Kenny I'm super impressed that you improvised this and all of it in one take. Hope that making music lifts you out of any health related funks that may crop up. Take care.
  22. OSkald Yeah, tricky timing on this one. Sounds good to me though it did seem more like a backing track. You mentioned a vocal track and I think it does need one. I have NI Electric Sunburst but I didn't recognize it in the song, unless it's playing the bass part?

Thanks Lynn I'm still going through the hundreds of pictures I took in Africa and also trying to come up with background music for a video. Don't have much of a feel for African music but working on it.

    Grandparents

JohnBee Yes, he was a beekeeper but mostly he was a dairy farmer and whatever else he could do to keep the family going. And he did a great job providing for his seven kids after my grandmother died. The farm is still there although another family owns it now, but it looks almost the same. Thanks for listening and taking the time to leave a comment. Freddy My wife has been doing a lot of genealogical research lately and she's found saints and scoundrels in her family going back a couple of hundred years. Thanks again for your kind comments.
