  1. I looked at my version last night and it's version 10 Ultimate. Bought it on a sale. I like that Komplete 12 comes with Kontakt 6. Probably couldn't buy separate sample libraries from reputable library companies and get similar things bought separately for the discounted price, no doubt if you want it this is the time to buy it. Great prices. Kontakt 6 has a few cool new additions in it as well.
  2. Someguy...whoever you are and whatever DAW you use, we will have to agree to disagree. My opinion is based on the facts. I'm not sure what you base your opinion on. CbB hasn't been standing still. Not by a long shot. If you want to compare DAWS obviously they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I know Cakewalk has a lot of strengths. I could bring up a few well known DAWS as a comparison that haven't had as many changes as CbB has had in the same amount of time. You think I don't own multiple DAWS? I know how they work dude. lol.
  3. Live 10 just had a recent update to 10.1.
  4. "Every positive remains the same, but isn't quite as good as it was in 2015 (just over 4 years ago). " Yes CbB is similar to what it was then. If by saying " isn't quite as good", you mean the omission of some 3rd party plugins from CbB that were included in Platinum, then maybe you have a point, otherwise I fail to see the point in looking at the improvements made to the software and saying little or nothing has happened. In making a comparison to any other DAW out there, the same thing could be said, that many of the updates made since 2015 made were trivial and not really of any significance. In most software updates they deal with all of the trivial stuff......yeah, it's only trivial until it crashes your system, or someone didn't notice a windows update causes a serious problem. You can say ARA 2 and Elastique were trivial updates. I don't see it that way. Probably 90% of all updates are to keep software stable and running alongside OS and software generational changes. It was suggested to those who didn't want to change from Platinum to simply keep running Sonar Platinum on their machines as long as they can. I personally don't believe this is the best approach. It's what happens to keep the software running that we don't often notice but is so necessary. I don't find fault with anyone who decided to keep Platinum and run it on a computer without updates, maybe even disconnected from the web. That isn't me though. I want to remain as current as possible with my system as much as I have the resources to allow it. The only exception to that is if I'm working on a large project for a friend or a client . In that case I'll wait until that project is completed.
  5. Yes, thanks guys for this info. I have an older version of Komplete Ultimate. I forget the version, I think it's version 8. Kontakt was included in that version. You need it to play any of the libraries. When I look back at my actual use of a bunch of those libs in Komplete I haven't used them as much as my 3rd party libraries. Moving up to the most recent version of Komplete is probably wasted on me. I think NI really sticks you on an initial purchase of Kontakt if bought separately. Version 5 has been working great for me. We all know how all things software eventually end up though. I could probably continue to use 5 for a long time, but for 49.00 quid it's really a no brainer to upgrade it. A small no brainer at that! Komplete is nice to have around and I won't say I never use it because I do on occasion. I think people who buy it are under the impression they won't ever need anything else because it has all the bases covered. That could be true for you, but most I know who have it are still buying other stuff. Kontakt is really the one to have IMO. Then your options are open.
  6. That's not a hair style. An alien has attached itself to his head.😮
  7. At least they aren't "polky" ??? I think that's a waltz tempo.
  8. I would say try to load your project up on it and see if the computer can handle it first. You'll need a time keeper if using it for band sync. So a click and some audio tracks? That shouldn't be too demanding. Sampling is even easier if you have the computer tied to midi pads running one soft sampler. You're basically just reaching over and hitting pads when you want the samples. Another option for anyone using a lower spec lappy is to use only midi and send it to a sound module if running lots of tracks. I would just make sure the module or modules can handle the additional polyphony. Most laptops now though should be capable to run a basic setup. Give it a shot, see what happens.
  9. I've had K5 for a long time and so far I haven't seen a need to upgrade. Do you think we should? Why? Thanks for sharing that great price BTW.
  10. Who's Russian? I try to take things at the right tempo.
  11. Another good one from the Beagle team. Great mix. Getting away from the Beatles feel are we?
  12. Hi John, I think the song is driven well by the primary ideas behind it. Being an American I am sometimes saddened by the inner turmoil here. Sad thing 9-11. I sympathize with your message. The music fits the lyrics well.I especially liked the bass parts in places. Did you play these on a real bass? Thanks for sharing!

    Only One Life

Thanks Mesh and Wookie for listening! I wish I had more time for a larger production. This was only like 4 tracks in CbB.

    Only One Life

Time has been limited lately so I chose to just post a video of me playing my latest compo. The basic organ part is the basis for the rest of it. This is a classical piece loosely based on the way Bach made music. I am reading a bio on Bach and am fascinated by the way he made music.I'm also a fan of baroque music. I intentionally added an bunch of twists and turns in this to make it more difficult to "pre think" the music.
  15. Great article which I think covered more of the history of the product than any I have read. Aside from the misguided comment about the numbering scheme it was good. There is much reason for optimism in the Cakewalk camp. I'm glad I hung on for the long haul. There is much for the Cakewalk team to look at and be proud of. No matter how many DAWS I have I always go back to working mainly in my favorite DAW CbB. Price is of no consequence here for me. I like the DAW. I always have.I would have continued to pay for it had there been a charge to use it. I have tried to do the same things in other DAWS and I always loose momentum using anything else for fleshing out /making mixes. There was a lot of complaining about the "aero" look when it came out. To me it was one of the best moves Cakewalk ever made. Everyone else went to a similar thing, drag and drop, resizable windows. Saving screen sets and lenses. All of this adds up to a much more friendly user experience. I could go on about the other things I like about it. Elastique, now ARA 2. What's not to like about this DAW?
  16. Updated to 10.1 https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/live-10-1-is-here/
  17. I probably haven't mixed near as much as you and I feel the same way. I hear mixes that I basically ruined. In fact pretty much everything I've done could be improved on. Another problem for me is accepting that less is usually more.
  18. The M.2 spec is basically a drive on a card. The footprint is much smaller making it great for laptops, though there are plenty of desktop motherboards that have it now too. In order to handle those faster specs, your computer needs the capability to see/use it. I agree with the larger SSD idea. I sort of gravitated in smaller increments with the same end result. I went with a bunch of 500gb Samsung drives. My MOBO has like 10 SATA ports on it. I still have room for a bunch more drives after adding 5. My most recent was a Samung EVO860. This might be a consideration if money is tight since you can go in a more as needed way adding 500gb drives instead of 1TB drives. One other benefit to that is you can keep more specialty files separate on each drive. A builder isn't likely to do that. He will probably just add huge drives unless told otherwise. If adding drives, keep in mind a PC running win 10 Home won't instantly recognize a drive like say, a usb stick or memory card. You'll need to go in and do some basic setup in disk management. It's easy once you know how to do it....I guess that covers a lot of things.
  19. Matt can to tell us a bit more about what you intend for the live rig? The computer you'll need will vary based on that info. If you're running pre made backing tracks on one channel or only few channels and playing to a click you don't really need a powerful computer for that. You would want a reliable one though in any case. If you have 24 plus tracks and plan to play vsti live through CbB, then yeah, just to be safe I would get something fairly powerful. If playing samples put them on the 2nd hard drive.Any soft synth is going to load up the works, plus then you have to make sure the latency is low enough to play live meaning a fast round trip through the computer and into the interface outputs. In contrast, playing audio tracks already frozen in CbB isn't going to put as much strain on the computer. You can play LOTS of audio tracks ok on most decent computers. For any live work you need to disable any automatic maint. things that might start during a performance and cause issues. Virus software is a well known power hog doing "automatic" clean ups of similar when you least expect it.All of that should be disabled for performances. For the live player it isn't usually inputs you need since you've already put stuff ITB. It's outputs. Most interfaces only have several. If you send multi track to FOH or your personal PA system then something like this beats most interfaces for that task because it focuses on outputs rather than inputs- https://loopcommunity.com/en-us/track-rig
  20. I only use multiple DAWs if I need to. Otherwise I use CbB. Case in point. My goal was to record a movie playing and have a nice audio track....seems simple enough right? None of my DAWS capture video, so I opted to use Vegas Movie Studio. It uses an inner program caller Capture to actually record the video from a webcam which you then move into the movie edit area to work with it. I wanted to import the basic video into a DAW and do some basic editing in it since I didn't intend to edit the video. I'm not a fan of the audio tools in Vegas, even though it will host vst's. The video was an .avi file which didn't agree with CbB when I tried to import it. Next I tried Studio One Pro 4.1. It imported the video but doesn't show a slide by slide timeline of the video. It basically shows the video in a window and it's up to you to align audio to it. That process seemed a bit clunky to me. It did at least allow import and I was able to align the audio to it. Next I will probably try Mixcraft Pro 8 because it's the only DAW I have that seems to have basic video editing capability in it. I likely doesn't import avi ...so I've hopped across three programs to accomplish one simple process. Next time I'll know what to do. This is an example of what can happen if one tool doesn't offer what you need. How you work determines the tools you'll need. If you record group vocals in harmony you might like the vocal alignment tools in Cubase. If you caught the sale awhile back on the basic version of VocAlign by Syncro Arts like I did you bought that, or if you had Sonar Platinum you have a tool in it that does the same thing basically by taking a master track and aligning a slave track to it....or you could simply do some basic audio editing if the problem isn't too bad. There's usually more than one way to do something. In my case I have two different ways to do what the function does in Cubase. Melodyne is the most popular vocal pitch correction tool out there. Most DAWS come with a basic version. Why would I use Cubase's vocal tools? I have Melodyne and the Waves pitch correction plugin, plus the old one made by Roland.....so what I'm saying is, I would need to justify a good reason to buy that DAW or it will sit and gather dust. If you like CbB and there's something it doesn't have there are likely inexpensive 3rd party options to fill those gaps. One thing that really helped me out was buying a few of the 3rd party plugin packages. Now I have all of my bases covered. Everyone does that anyways, no matter which DAW you have.
  21. Just hope they don't go to a monthly rental later on.
  22. I don't use a lappy intensively for recording. It's more of a portable rig, yet still does nicely for project work. Heck I even loaded Komplete on it. Most people buy laptops for more practical reasons as opposed to sheer function .vs a desktop. Portability being one of the top reasons. Most laptops are a trade off in portability for performance. The closest you can come to desktop performance is using a high end or gamer model laptops. Not all of those are created equal. A misleading thing about gamer laptops is that a product line has the same name but there are models in that line with different specs. i.e.......when I bought mine there was the same one at Best Buy that only had one hard drive instead of two and less memory. I wanted -two hard drives minimum, SSD both fast speeds. No 5400 rpm spinners! -at least 16gb of memory -fast i7 cpu. i5 will do it for most but I was adamant. Some added advantages were -a DVD/CD drive (Not all lappys have them now) -a nice high end video card -expansion capability -M2 slot -HDMI video output -multiple usb ports I think I put my laptop on my sig. The most important thing though is to Look at the specs.
  23. A person can master well in Cakewalk too. The main advantage to SO is the way it can line all of the tracks up for an album hard copy . It makes the process for an album easier. I prefer CbB to master individual tracks and would not hesitate to send a master from CbB to any website that hosts music. So long as artists use CDs to make additional income at gigs they will probably still be around in lesser quantities. I think the MAIN place for music now is the web. As such, The lines between the two aren't as rigid when it comes to mastering. Last time I checked there were mastering presets in the PC unless they were removed with an update.
  24. Exactly Notes, It's usually live and let live for those critters. I once lived in south Georgia. I can't say I really miss it for the critters. We still have copperheads up here in the North East. I once was invaded by "noseeums" also commonly called red bugs. Not sure what the scientific name is for them. hey love to hang out on the moss that hangs from the oak trees. Just annoying when you get like 1000 of them on you. Been bitten by wasps. They don't usually bother a person unless you rub up against one of their nests.Kind of annoying flying around in the living room though. There was a gator in one pond we went to. If you seen him crawl into the water it was time to get out.
  25. I think there's medication for that.
