I've thought the same. Have you tried using Paste Special ? First and foremost, make sure the track you are copying is selected and the destination track has focus. - Drag select your region to be copied. Use Paste special. Its really that easy. Just make sure the Nowtime is aligned with the copy and paste points. Here is a helpful video on this topic.

Have you tried using Volume automation instead ? Keeping clips intact/one whole clip is essential for future proof use.

You can build a decent one now days for under 500 bills. I built an I7 4790 4.0GHZ with 16GB of ram for under 5 but I also reused my version of windows, my SSD and case from my old rig. Any experience with building ?

Only my opinion... If its the Satellite P755-S5215, The MAX Memory allowed is 4GB per slot, equaling a total MAX Memory of 8GB. Saving your money Mark. Put it towards a new Laptop/Desktop workstation. I know its not easy to materialize 500 - 600 dollars but your Laptops processor is not worth investing on RAM. Matter of fact, im not even sure your CPU meets the minimum requirements to run Cakewalk by Bandlab. The RAM upgrade might help with loading soft synths but Im afraid a 2 gig upgrade wont be that productive.

You don't have to but it will free up resources.. you also have the choice to use "Render" but bounce to clips does the same thing.

Problem with USB hubs Powered/or not is that there are multiple messages being sent in to the same hub at once. I once traced down a keyboard controller issue to a hub, it just couldn't handle a keyboard, mouse, controller all at once.

I may have misunderstood, but close range monitors should always be balanced cables. An XLR - TRS cable, short length used for Speakers will run you about 20 bucks for 2 of them.

I would also call it a region but I think what its really called is a selection. Notice in your photo that not only is the timeline grey itself.. but it is also darkened the clip under it ? This indicates to us, that particular region of the clip has been selected. The Grey part in the timeline simply tells us what region has been selected. You need to look at your tracks to see which ones are selected (for editing)

This is what I was going to suggest. At first I only used balanced cables for microphones, but as I draped cable over cable like a sick game of tick tack toe I realized I needed to upgrade every cable. I did and it has been a lot better. I still cant perfect cable management properly but my only issue now is my Video monitor using Fenders with single coils.

I stopped using lenses for this very reason. I only use screensets. IMO, they would have been better off to revamp screensets and making it a much bigger feature. Instead they added another feature that is almost exactly like screensets with the addition of global settings included. the worst thing is... You cant use both features together without losing something in there some where.

lets be perfectly real though, if this is what it takes to keep Cakewalk going, than im not opposed to it. I don't particularly like it, but it beats paying 300 bucks for sonar every new version.

I've had this go 2 separate ways.. 1- Burnout on the song and it sounds like burnt toast. 2- Force myself to finish it and it comes out amazing. I typically record songs in batches now (10 songs) and mix, master after the fact.

I honestly hope the ferrite choke does the job. But I don't think its going to. When you put powered speakers, next to a powered Desktop monitor, through a powered soundcard using 2 prong outlets your in for a long day. @greg54 You can about this any way you choose but as I said previously, Its a matter of process and elimination. Start with the basics, Plug your 5 power sources (Desktop, Video monitor, Soundcard and 2 Speakers into one power strip. 1- Power up Desktop / Soundcard / Speakers 2- Find the grounding sound you are hearing. Once it is strong, Turn off the Video monitor to your desktop (you just eliminated 1 source). 3- Turn off 1 Speaker (it could be a bad cord to your speaker) Now repeat with the other speaker. Your best bet might even be to lug your gear into the kitchen (where the wiring has been updated) and check it there. If it works fine there, chances are no ferrite choke will help you.
