  1. I keep forgetting, Floppies were magnetic weren't they?
  2. Computers for live music are still a dangerous item. So much can go wrong. I only use Wave audio for my backing tracks. One less thing to go wrong. But here’s another thing that can go wrong and just recently happened to me. A 4 year old Samsung SSD drive which was less than half full slowed to a crawl. I tested it with the Samsung Magician app and it was reading at about 5% of its specifications. $50 fix. This was my main DAWS data drive. This was a lesson learned so I ordered 4 more Samsung 500GB SSD drives and swapped out the 3 in my main DAW and the one in my laptop I use for live gigs. The Samsung Magician has a data transfer tool that made updating the OS drive a 20 minute operation. I did this for the laptop and my main Computer. No issues at all. It’s free. The laptop I use for gigs is 2008 Sony running W7. Only 8 GB RAM and Duo core but I can play most all my full projects on it as well as recording 16 track live bands. I say it’s the speed and integrity of the SSD drive that keeps is going.
  3. I was lucky because most of my floppy disks from my Atari Mega ST were IBM formatted so all my midi files transferred into a PC no problem. That was on XP. Later I found a few more that were just live performance tracks but only floppy drive I had was now on a W 7 computer and it wouldn’t read them. So @Jimbo 88 I hope the floppy disks can be read by W10.
  4. I googled the question and there are dozens of videos on the topic. I posted one in my original post on the off chance the OP actually returns. The way I see it we have 2 options the midi effects and Groove Quantize. I don’t think Cal script ever was very successful format, certainly never worked for me. But Groove Quantize is pretty straight forward. Im totally against just randomly moving notes off time. I think what Byron said is how I feel. It more about the sound each instrument makes and the attack of the note after it is triggered. Put up your hand if you ever found yourself moving a synth pad back a bit until it sounds right in the mix. Some of those old analog sounds are very slow to develop. So it really depends o the instrument. Drums and bass need to be locked up tight so if you move a kick 3 ms early you better do the same to the bass! Otherwise you will begin to create mush. The options for creating with midi are huge and the authenticity of the results are totally in the hands and skills of the creator. The computer DAW cannot automatically make midi sound real but it does have most of the tools built in. A huge part of this realism is still due to the initial input of midi data. Making a step sequencer sound human is a lot more work than playing the part on a keyboard or digital drum kit. And then the sensitivity of the keyboard or drum kit also makes a huge difference and of course who is playing it. If you’ve ever played a $5,000 Roland drum kit you would understand what I’m saying. Expecting a $300 keyboard controller to produce a Concert Grand Piano is a joke. So taking a boring Piano midi clip that is perfectly in time and every note is 100 velocity with no CC events and expecting an AI to make it sound like a Real person played it?? Ha! The day a computer totally replaces real musicians will be sad day indeed.
  5. You didn’t really say what the tape deck uses for syncing? Last time I did this 20 years ago the multi track used MMC and that’s what I set Cakewalk to. There was a few things I forget but I basically followed the instructions that came with the multi track.
  6. Actually for me I just turn one off and turn the other one on. Best to close Cakewalk first. When I reopen Cakewalk the interface that is turned on is 100% up and running. Might depend on manufacturers but this works for me with Motu, Focusrite, Tascam and Soundcraft. If I turn them all off and re enable the computer audio. Then Cakewalk is mad and I get the “There is no audio device “ message. I have to switch from ASIO to WASAPI shared and all is good. If I close Cakewalk andturn my Motu back on Cakewalk returns to ASIO.
  7. I thought they were referring to total forum post count, not individuals. Even Bapu. Won’t make it.
  8. You don’t actually loose the Realtek. It’s only the Realtek ASIO driver that causes issues. You delete that in the Reg edit. You don’t get rid of the actual Realtek sound chip. You just disable it in Windows settings as I demonstrate in the video. You should be able to play all audio through the interface at any time if you choose the settings I demonstrate. I never shut off ASIO in Cakewalk. I often have Cakewalk, Wave Lab, OBS , Winamp or Media player all running same time. This works for all 3 of my interfaces. Always did. When people say get rid of Realtek they should clarify that this is only the Realtek ASIO driver. The Realtek sound chip will work just fine with out the Realtek ASIO driver. It will use the Windows default driver instead which I would guess is WASAPI shared. The computer audio system can co exist with the Audio Interfaces ASIO in most cases but I find it best to disable it. This totally rules out any conflict. For me the interface is the only thing I need. If you turn off the interface it will use the Computer sound system if you just re enabled it in windows settings. I do this occasionally just to test stuff for making videos.
  9. I was the 4th person to post here 4 years ago. Jack Stoner beat me by a minute and I don’t recognize the first 2 people. https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/67-how-do-i-turn-on-my-computer/
  10. I had to go back and make sure that this is the same thread I was thinking it was. A screen shot would have helped but I will assume you are refering to Windows Settings/ Sound/Device properties/Additional Device properties as shown in my video. I'll duplicate the info here. If you open the Properties Tab and select the driver tab you should see this. In the advanced tab it should look like this. There should be No 16 bit options. That only appears with non ASIO drivers. This is my Motu control panel. In the Reg Edit it should look like this. I have 3 other ASIO devices and those all use proper drivers so they do not interfere with Cakewalk. But you should only see the Motu listed here. Anything else needs to be deleted. Disabling in device manager is not going to do the trick. There's no need for that anymore, you just disable it in Manage Sound devices. But you do not want the Realtek ASIO driver listed here. Or any other ASIO drivers that do not belong to an audio interface.
  11. Ok the mystery is why is there no option in the Cue Mix? Sorry if I misled you. I assumed it was the same as a Focusrite mixer. Is there a separate control panel like I have ? My M4 doesn’t support Cue Mix so there’s just a control panel. That is always where you ultimately change sample rate and buffer settings with all ASIO interfaces. Bit depth is 24 and can’t be changed. So the fact you are seeing 16 is a red flag that the Motu driver is not installed at all? The Windows settings are not the same thing. That’s generally for the computers system. Look in your start menu for Motu. But I would re install the driver
  12. I vote for 1 forum for the continuing of Cakewalk/Sonar. The other app should definitely have a sub form as it will only be used by a completely different group of users. There’s not that many posts here anymore so sub forums for Cakewalk/Sonar are really not needed. I have no clue why we seem to have 2 forums for Cakewalk? I don’t like the format of the QA forum. You can’t tell when or who the last answer was posted. And nobody ever clicks the vote thingy. If they are going to redo the forum can we please just have one main forum for Legacy Sonar/ Cakewalk by Bandlab/New Sonar. A big reason for keeping it this way is the collective knowledge of many users who will no doubt be using the new Sonar will be more beneficial to the people clinging to the past for many valid reasons. Those people will then be seeing the threads about the new version and it will help them decide if the upgrade is worth it. Good example was when X1 came out and the forum was nothing but negative stuff about it. I stayed clear until things settled down with X3. I doubt that will be the case this time around but for some people they will most certainly be reading this forum before they reach for that credit card. And I’ll be one of them.
  13. He beat me to it. But 2 years too late! I do the same with the TTS-1. It can crash Cakewalk so I either freeze it or better yet export the tracks as stems and bring them back as audio and delete the TTS-1. You need to plan for the not to distant future as we move forward these old instruments which are no longer supported will cause even more trouble later on
  14. And don’t forget SonoBus It’s an app that you both install on a Cell Phone or Tablet as well as a Plug in. You plunk it in the master bus as the last effect in the chain. It uses the internet to send the mix to your mobile device. Just a quick question? Why do people still use MP3 and 44.1? It seems so year 2000 to me. https://sonobus.net
  15. If it works like the Event list, then I've never found a way to select all events. I just use the View to show the events I don't want and hold the delete key down. It will gobble them up pretty quickly. If you don't use hardware these messages don't seem to have anything to do with soft synths. If you are using hardware then you can disable the sending in these options shown in the screenshots.
  16. There are humanizing midi tools but all they do is move the notes out of time. So ya, humanized like someone who is a bad player! Just because the midi notes are perfect doesn’t make them inhuman. Some keyboard players and drummers can actually play like that. The secret is to learn how to edit the midi to sound the way you want it no matter how the midi was created. Expecting AI to accomplish this task is wishful thinking. Google the question results in many videos this one I like
  17. Just thinking out loud here. Doesn’t it depend on the video game player how it works? Like I know games on a PC can use the ms wavetable synth. Apple probably uses something similar? Or do modern game players just play wave files? If there is a midi sound generator then you would need to find out what cC events it responds to. I would figure this would be GM. If it is then you would definitely use the TTS 1 to compose.
  18. I’m glad you posted those shots. I was going to but was too lazy. The player piano was my first experience with playing a piano back in 1959. My neighbour had one. I was fascinated by how it worked . Notice the sustain CC on the far left? Of course the holes( notes) you are looking at aren’t the ones playing but they printed the lyrics on the right side in sync. First time I saw a piano roll view ( Cubase?) I new exactly what it was and how it would work. It’s just sideways.
  19. It’s about that much if not more for me. I thought it was broken. I’ve just become used to it and I go cut the lawn or something while waiting.
  20. Never start a song at zero. It’s been a long time feature request to have a negative measure at the start. Everyone starts at at least one. I’ve added count ins starting at zero using the drums rim shot and that first click is always a bit quieter.
  21. I’m on my phone so can’t check but isn’t there a virtual keyboard in windows that will highlight any keystrokes? Be an easy way to check broken keys.
  22. To answer your question no you can’t use them both at the same time . You have reconfigure Cakewalk driver settings. What I do is I have a Bluetooth speaker and that can co exist with my interfaces for some reason. Not with Cakewalk playback but as said above I export the mix and use media player. I simply turn the Bluetooth speaker on and it plays. If I then turn it off Media Player returns to my interface and studio monitors. Another set up I had before was a pair of computer speakers connected to my headphone jack.
  23. This almost sounds exactly like another thread recently and like I told that person. Follow the steps in this video carefully. The Realtek needs to be completely out of the picture.
  24. Reason I say this because most software will have a check box to install desktop icon and a quick start icon. I have the Motu M4 which doesn’t use cue mix. I was curious to see what happened if I installed the OP’s driver on my other computer. After the install I expected the icon but it wasn’t there. It’s easy to just drag the link in the start menu to the desktop or add it to the system tray. But it made me wonder if the OP was aware that the interface had a control panel. You would be surprised how many people never read the manual or even go to the manufacturer web site for drivers.
  25. Not sure exactly the plug in but a lot of saturation plug in s add upper harmonics. Thinking out loud here. Copy the track. Put the saturation plug in in the bin 100% wet. Use EQ in pro channel to remove lower frequencies. Use a spectrum analyzer as you experiment creating the upper frequency harmonics. Put an EQ after the saturation in the bin and hi pass all but the new frequencies.
