  1. Bjorn, this hits me on a visceral level, unlike other songs I've heard from you. It seems dark and sinister, therefor, cinematic, and ready for a movie or documentary. Though I've been incommunicado for a while, I've heard most of the songs you posted lately, and you've been keeping the beat going for a long time!
  2. I think I've heard you sing before, but this is a pleasant surprise. Your voice reminds me very much of the late Richard Wright, and the whole song has a dreamy, Pink Floyd vibe that I like. Of course, the mix is great! Thumbs up!!
  3. Hi Jesse! This piece really strikes home with me. The rhetorical question of the ages: "what's so hard about loving one another?" This arrangement and mix really pops on my KRK's, and your voice has never been better. This may keep me up at nights!
  4. Phillip, you've written a beautiful song that sets a mood. Your lyrics are very relatable, and while poignant, they convey the mood very well. The only thing that I noticed was that the overall mix sounds a little "muffled" and low in level. Perhaps a hi-pass filter on the vocals or mix might clear things up a bit, but if you do nothing else, it is a success.
  5. Terrific job, Mark and Tony!!! Your arrangement is superb, and the performances are off the chart. More, please.
  6. Well, thank you for taking the time to listen twice! I know what you mean about the chorus; the pre chorus is pretty dominant. I take them as one part anymore. I did spend a bit of time with headphones, but they differ so much from brand to brand, even when calibrated, that all I an hope for is an "average" mix from them. Again, thanks for your feedback!
  7. Thanks Michael! Standards are my next goal "Pete' should be bloody jealous" That's one for the ages :)! Steve, it's truly good to hear from you. I did manage to chronicle my year in song, which I will let slip out over the next few months. I have tried to keep up with you, and if I missed a review, I will say now that I've liked all I've heard from you.
  8. Jeff, thanks for your reply! The timing issue was brought up earlier, so you are not alone in hearing this. When constructing this song, I used preset percussion beats from Superior Drummer 3 and combined straight beats with swing patterns (ala King Crimson and Bill Bruford) for an experiment in polyrhythm. Whether it works or not, is kinda up to the listener. It was one of my question marks about this tune. Good ears!
  9. Nigel, I love the new sound and vocalist! You raise the bar very high, but something to aspire to.
  10. Just terrific! You have a way of writing the most mesmerizing music. I have to dive back in!
  11. Very stylish, Fred! You have a very close relationship to your muse, and may it ever be prosperous!
  12. Well done! As Mark said, you put your signature on this tune. You've done a good job overcoming your physical problems and creating something highly entertaining.
  13. Truly adventurous, Jesse! The road less traveled is often the most interesting.
  14. Thanks a million, Daryl! I spent a lot of time under the cans with this tune. I'm glad to hear that it paid off!
  15. Thanks, Fred, what a hectic year, but what a story to tell! Kate and I are doing well even if others around us are falling apart~~~ I appreciate your kind words! I find that cooking and producing are very similar
  16. Terrific song, Daryl! Your craftmanship is remarkable, and it keeps inspiring me (and I'm sure others, too) to keep writing and putting my best foot forward. You're hard to keep up with, but worth the effort to try.
  17. This has a majestic feel like a movie theme. I love the arrangement and textures very much! This is good to go. Two thumbs up!
  18. This is one of my all time favorite songs, and your version is a damn good tribute to two of my favorite artists. When it's all said and done, your vocal carries this tune very well. Maybe a few tweaks here and there may improve the song a bit, but you've already carried most of the load.
  19. Mark, thanks for listening to this and your wise words, I understand what you mean by being careful with the use of this software. I consider it another "spice" in my spice rack. I do, however, like spicy food Ever since hearing Imogen Heep's "Hide And Seek", I've been a sucker for f/x like this, and I finally got to have my turn. Thanks so much, Bjorn. Congrats on the songs you've been putting out, lately! It always pleases me when you give me a good review. I know you have some of the best monitors and ears around, and I've learned much from you. Thanks a million! Thank you for your kind words and time. PG may have been in the back of my mind when arranging this song, as he's been very influential to me.
  20. David, thank you for your constructive words! This was one of the questions I had when I posted this. What I think you're hearing is this: I used preset beats from Superior Drummer 3's percussion program. I started with the cajon, and then, layered congas and bongos over it. I experimented a bit with polyrhythm by combining straight and swing beats in the same measure (something I picked up from listening to King Crimson and Bill Bruford). I recorded everything else to these beats. Whether this works or not depends on the listener, ultimately. It takes good ears to catch nuances like this, so, well done. John, it's good to be back. Thanks for your ears! As for Harmony, I found a minor chord preset that seemed to fit and recorded it live rather than adding it afterwards. I felt that hearing the effect while recording made me use my voice more as an instrument to find those sweet spots. It's interesting that you heard the different percussion loops, too, as it was a question mark. To you and David, so noted. Thanks guys!
  21. Thank you for your kind words! I must have sung "Fly Like An Eagle" countless times in my bar-band days
  22. 4 stars! I'll bet you could write for Broadway because your chord progressions and melodies are beautifully unpredictable. Your mix sounds very professional and polished. Good lyrics. Your track record proves that you're a powerful songwriter.
  23. Mark, thanks for your time and ears! That low drum is a cajon from SD3's percussion kit; I like it, too, and have never used it before. I used a similar technique on the vocal that you describe, using a clean vocal track and combining with the processed sound. In Harmony, setting up is as easy as pie. Most of the presets need only a little tweaking to get a cool sound. But, MUST NOT OVERUSE IT! Nigel, thank you for your kind words! I took a look at the Zplanes and noticed that Waves is about$100 cheaper. Otherwise, I don't know unless I get it in my hands. I may demo this.k Good luck with your new album! Thank you so much, Eric. Your time and words mean a lot!
  24. Thank you, Steve, it's good to be back! Thank you very much! Tom, you hit the nail on the head. Some family members and friends finally got caught up in the covid web, and I made an offer to help out, where and if I could. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished I did drop a few "likes", but not nearly enough.
  25. Hello to all my CW friends! It's been a long 6 months since I've had much spare time, but here I am with a new song. I recently purchased Waves Harmony and used it on this song to experiment a bit. It's fresh off the press and can be found here: https://soundclick.com/r/s8mawa I managed to listen to some of the new songs here from time to time, and I've been very impressed. I would like to have commented many times, but time has been precious this year. Thanks in advance for your time and good ears! Lynn 9/28/22 Thanks to my co-producers here, I remixed the percussion, smoothed a few rough edges, and slightly rearranged the beats. I also lessened the f/x on my vocals a bit and raised the bass gtr a tad. I think this helped to get me closer to the end.
