  1. It's free to walk away. And you don't have to wait 6 months. You can do it today!
  2. That's one sure way to get help. 🤐
  3. Plagiarized from the 7th paragraph of this article: https://www.wired.com/story/32-bit-float-audio-explained/ Oops. wtf?
  4. You'll have to dither from 44.1/24 anyway - because you're dithering the bit depth down to 16 for a CD. Don't worry about it. Pick a dither option and go with it. You'll likely never, ever hear the difference.
  5. Just LAST WEEK I was in Sound Arts Recording in Houston to help a friend with some background vocals. I've worked there with my friend before so I know the engineer to a degree. Nice guy. Great mixer and engineer. He knows that I used to be his competition with local band projects, but we actually get along very well. Later, after the work was done, we were just chatting about this and that...and he played my latest track through his system. When it was done, he asked me to play it again. After that he asked me what DAW I was using. I told him. And he said..."You can do all that in Cakewalk?". I was like...I've always been able to do all that in Cakewalk...lol.
  6. Is this where I bloviate about what sampling rate folks should use without suggesting they listen to the different sampling rates on their actual device, so they can decide for themselves if one sounds better than the other?

  8. If you're talking about the grid lines, those can be changed under preferences, colors, beat rules and/or grid lines.
  9. Doesn't it change along with the color of your track in the track view?
  10. I've got Focal Twin 6's. I'm not looking to change but I was looking those Kali's a couple days ago just out of curiosity and I thought the same thing. Good luck with your search.
  11. The last person I want bragging about a product is the marketing manager...lol. I'm pretty surprised he didn't push harder.
  12. Near 20 years ago, when I was searching for my perfect set of near-field monitors, I started on the lowest end of my budget with that I though might get the job done and got a demo pair from Vintage King. Sending back a couple sets of demo monitors is a lot less hassle than ending up with monitors that you don't love. And honestly, even if you can hear them in a local store, it's not the same as spending a couple weeks with them in your own space.
  13. Byron's not wrong. Question though. Do you have any headphone bleed from background music or other sounds that you're doing the VO on? If so, that bleed will do funny stuff when you start messing with any pitch correction software. Especially when it mixes back in with the original background source material.
  14. You heard it here first. Sonar will cost $200.
  15. That's absolutely not what the engineer is doing. He's not shifting for latency....he's quickly building a loop so Paul can lay down the next part. If you're playing on time and you have to shift every single take because of latency, something is very wrong. That's not normal.
  16. Cool. Step sequencing isn't my thing but I'm sure there are plenty of folks here who can help you with that. It may be helpful for me to add that you can chop, drag and paste the midi file in sections from within the tracks pane. I color code each section and move them around a lot. Gives me a visual representation of which part is where in time. Now...someone else here may be very familiar with the Arranger functions in Cakewalk. It's cool. Doesn't work for how I do things, but it sort of sounds like it might be useful for what you do. Good luck.
  17. Rob - are you planning on manually entering these drum parts with a mouse, using a midi controller (keyboard), or are you going to be using an electronic drum kit? I know some people like step sequencing. I can't stand it precisely because it reminds me of using my old Boss DR-660. 🤣 I picked up an Alesis Nitro kit a couple years ago and it changed everything about doing midi drums. So much easier to get ideas out that actually feel like my style.
  18. Depends. Full band....is there bleed in everything? If so, you're toast. If there's not bleed, your solution to start with bass and drums is a good place to start. I don't envy you in this errand. Because you'll be aligning and time stretching till the cows come home...and still probably have something that's not quite right. When I was still doing full bands and it was THAT BAD I would pull the plug on the project, have a heart-to-heart with the band about coming back when they get tight and send them home with a refund. They'd either show up better or they'd go somewhere else.
  19. Not sure what you're asking, specifically. Are you asking for help building a drum map? As far as drum velocity goes, I personally find it easier to adjust velocity after I've created parts. I just look at it as a secondary creative process. If I try to do them both at the same time (while manually entering notes instead of playing an electronic drum kit), I feel like it gets in the way of my creativity. I can largely ignore the dynamics while I'm creating - knowing I'm going to back to do that once all the parts are right. And adjusting velocity from the drum map view is way easier than adjusting it from the piano roll view.
  20. There are 2 camps. One camp time-aligns it. You can choose to chop the OH mic tracks and time-align it. But where do you stop? The toms will also be in the OH. And so will the HH. One camp ignores it. I'm in this camp. EDIT: To clarify. I'm specifically talking about time-aligning OH and ROOM tracks. I don't.
  21. Overthinking...perhaps. Have you checked out any of the Darkglass profiles? I just took a look...they're out there. And there are ridiculous VST profiles that come stock with the Kemper. I have a hard time thinking the Kemper wouldn't suffice in one way or the other.
