Where do we post Feedback about Sonar?
Jonathan Sasor replied to John Vere's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
That's inherited from older versions you've installed previously. We don't add anything for Landr for new installs. -
Not Liking the look of the New Sonar Interface
Jonathan Sasor replied to mark foster's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
There's a number of themes that come stock with Sonar right now, including ones based on CbB's Tungsten and Mercury, but there's potential to make things more customizable in the future. Old themes themselves are not compatible with the way the new UI works. -
So I'm playing with the new Sonar
Jonathan Sasor replied to Terry Kelley's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Figured out what the repro is, it only happens when the dock is the full screen width rather than the default width. It's logged on our end. Thanks! -
So long as it's configured properly the FaderPort 16 should work fine with Cakewalk. I'm sure @msmcleod could give you some pointers, but I run the Faderport 8 with the standard MCU mode and it runs fine on my end.

Where do we post Feedback about Sonar?
Jonathan Sasor replied to John Vere's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
We'll have some more formalized places to discuss Sonar coming, but for now you can continue to post about it here. Also note there is "Report a Problem" link in the Help menu. -
That's how it's been since that feature was implemented. The goal was to have audible playback of midi files for people without external MIDI gear. If you have ports enabled, the MIDI has somewhere to go and we assume you've set up for external monitoring, per that type of workflow.
-
It only auto loads tts1 if there's no physical midi ports enabled. So if you have a port checked, it won't load it with a midi file.
-
Please share what your current display configuration is including the number of displays, what their resolution is, and what scaling is being applied.

So I'm playing with the new Sonar
Jonathan Sasor replied to Terry Kelley's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
It would be highly unlikely. That's been thoroughly tested and we have not had any reports through the ongoing beta process about any conflicts. -

Cakewalk Sonar still uses Shared Utilities. Sonar installs alongside Cakewalk by BandLab the same way CbB installs alongside SONAR Platinum. -
[fixed] HELP: Something Killed 64 bit Sonar
Jonathan Sasor replied to sjoens's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I couldn't repro a problem rescanning in SONAR X3. It sounds like you might have a particular plugin that was causing the scanner to fail. -
It's not as if TTS1 was removed because we don't think GM is a viable workflow. Plus as I said, the MS Wavetable synth isn't something that's ever been a part of the app itself. We simply expose whatever MIDI ports are available in Windows. There have been no changes in the app to remove that. We definitely would like to have some kind of alternative in the future. Personally, I wouldn't want to rely on a GM player for backing tracks. There's much better sounding alternatives, but obviously that's subjective on a few levels.
-
The MS Wavetable synth was never in the app itself. It may show up depending on what driver mode you're in, but it's not really a great solution. The synth is part of Windows. It functions exactly the same as if you were using a physical external MIDI module, but without an obvious way on how to pump that back into the app if you needed. TTS-1 was requested to be removed by Roland. In any case, we were not able to maintain it as it's Roland's source code, and it's been noted for having increasing stability issues as time has gone along. You're definitely right about very quickly feeling like you're in 1998. Not too many people use that kind of workflow these days. Not unless you're working with hardware modules.

Cakewalk Sonar Beta sign-ups
Jonathan Sasor replied to Quinellipe Zorn's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Depending on when your application was received you may yet get a response, it's relative to when it was received and how many other people have already been admitted. It's not a fully open beta, so it's a restricted size pool, so not everyone who applies will be admitted, nothing personal if you don't a response. -
There's no change there. Demo mode has the same behavior in the current build. There's a new tool that will handle offline activation for CbB, but its in beta currently. Signing back into BandLab from the help menu will renew the auth license.

TIll when will last Cakewalk work?
Jonathan Sasor replied to jeejeestudio's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The original question on this thread has been asked and answered. The same other points have been discussed at length in a bunch of other places, no need to keep going in circles. Thanks. -
It should definitely be fine when you set it up for Mackie Control.

SOLVED: Playback Won't Start Without Tracks
Jonathan Sasor replied to Tommy Byrnes's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
You probably have Stop at Project End turned on. It's in the Track View's Options menu. -
TIll when will last Cakewalk work?
Jonathan Sasor replied to jeejeestudio's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Cakewalk by BandLab is not going anywhere anytime soon. If anything changes on that front, there would be plenty of advance notice. We have no desire to pull the rug out from anybody. All of your projects from Cakewalk by BandLab and before will all continue to be fine in the new Sonar version as well. Also as has been said in a dozen other threads, the current plan for the new Sonar pricing should be very agreeable to most folks. Nothing is fully finalized, so we can't give out details, but the team is still very hard at work on all aspects of the new version and its delivery. This is unlikely as part of the user agreement for having free CbB is that it requires you to be connected to BandLab. All that's required of this is to have access to free software is the login. That's called cracked/pirated software, aka intellectual property theft. There's some plans in the works for some of this, obviously I can't give any details at this time.- 34 replies

@Alan Bachman You can definitely open .wrk files in Cakewalk by BandLab. Obviously ancient plugins might not be there, but the file format is compatible with CbB. As far as some of the plugs go, you might have more luck recovering those if you have a 32-bit SONAR install, but all the actual data will load in 64-bit fine.

Sad news indeed. My dad actually knew Dave back in the day. Their shop in Flemington is where I bought my #1 Les Paul and Jazz Bass (among others), although that location has been gone for a little while now.
