I mentioned this earlier after observing the changes in v14.1.1, but just received the official email from Waves:

Dear Waves user,

We are glad to let you know that a new version of the Waves Central license management app, v14.1.1, is now available. The new version re-adds online installation of Waves legacy versions (v10-v13). With this new version, Waves plugins and bundles v10-v13 can be installed and managed online, in addition to offline installers.

The new version also includes several other improvements and fixes: See all release notes.

For any questions and assistance, please feel free to contact Waves Technical Support.

      Best regards,
The Waves Team

Any links to the release notes? I’d like to see if they made any provisions for legit users on older OS than 10.

I'm guessing they made no provisions for the customers who got raped because they’re old?

Ha!

Thanks abacab!

I don’t know if it was intended as a joke, but the link brought me to an empty waves page. Made me laugh if that’s the depth of their notes...

More likely it’s yet another page not displaying correctly on this old ipad mini (ios 12.6.3 I think)... I’ll try again when back at my DAW...

The link is good. ;)

Thanks again...

I just saw it on my DAW.... My iPad MINI is quite old and locked at ios 12.6.xxx I'm surprised how many developers are surprised when I tell them their' pages are not visible on Safari running on these older opsys.....

edit:

Ooops. Forgot to react!

Oh, that's because they said so little there's not much to react to, so I guess nothing has changed in my world...

That seems to be a common occurrence in general with web browsers going end-of-life for older operating systems. Web developers and browser developers eventually give up on them, plus there are often unpatched security issues that make it difficult to protect your personal information.

I had a Windows 7 system that I finally had to upgrade because support for Chrome and Firefox was ending. And a while back I had to replace a Mac Mini for a family member when their bank would no longer connect with the only version of Safari that OS could run.

It is what it is. Resistance is futile!

Yeah... Ive been using computers since before the mac or windows, so I’m used to the constant change. ...but the fundamental stuff such as text support and image display continued to work. Now it seems that is changing too.

The Industries are now continually forcing us to buy new even when we don’t need/want it. My iPad does the things I need it to as does my iPhone but I will soon be forced to buy new devices as the old software will no longer support the world at large. Extreme planned obsolescence!

Commercialism vs Communism... neither work as stand alone systems. Time to fuse all systems together so it encompases all! UNIX here we come!

I think Linux fits somewhere in that theme. The support for old hardware can be found there.

FYI, I started out long before personal computers with mainframe computers that took up an entire room, so I've seen plenty of change since those days!!! 🤣

Me too!

First computers I worked with had no screens. Typed in info printed out to fanfold paper or punch cards fed in stacks. Mainframes! I remember them too.

I think Linux is an open source attempt at creating a user interface for pure UNIX, yes? Will be great if anyone writes the code that weds windows & OSx in a common environment. Allowing the use of programs designed for either platform to exist side by side.... I'm dreaming!

Linux (technically GNU Linux) is a UNIX-like operating system. MacOS is a UNIX-certified system. Windows is neither.

Windows programs can only be native to UNIX or Linux  (or vice versa) if their program binaries have been compiled specifically for the target OS. That part is up to the  resources available to a developer to develop cross-platform applications. Not all choose to go that route. That's where dreaming is likely the only answer! ;)

In fact Gibson/Cakewalk made an attempt at one time years ago to make Cakewalk cross-platform, but that project got cancelled early as there were too many issues to overcome. Obviously those were business resource constraints, but it illustrates the additional challenges if a program is not originally written from the ground up as cross-platform. But then add 20+ years of Windows-only baggage to the problem and there you have it! Cakewalk is Windows to its core.

Interesting...

In my memory, both windows, mac, DOS are/were all basically subsets of UNIX with a user interface...

Linux closer to full UNIX and bundled with various user interfaces...

...but no matter. I won't live to see the day of unification. One day all must be able to converse freely with all regardless of personal preferences...

True, though the line is ever-so-slightly blurred for Linux software running on Windows using the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Still, I wouldn't hold my breath for running something like a DAW in WSL (yet?).
