@freddy j . . . super thick mix, fortunately you've got the vocal mixed clear and upfront so we know what it's all about . . . and there's a great message there, much appreciation for this one !

  1. Sounding great so far . . . gull glissandos and all, very convincing. Hopefully you can build it into a series . . . interesting how you have a story mapped out in your mind, like a video.

Hi Bruce ,  Fantastic job on the video!   It sure doesn't look like a first attempt at doing one.

I really liked the part where the guitar neck was superimposed over the railroad track.  Cool ..

It was nice to have some quality visuals to go along with the song.  Your workload has now gotten a lot heavier 😁

Loved the video and working on the project with you .   Thanks ..  mark

Hey Mark . . . your collaboration, and instrument work on this one was certainly the spark that made me even attempt this video, going way outside my comfort zone . . .  your final mix sounded so good, I just had to give it a try . . . thanks for that !

Hi Bruce - I think Lynn said it all!!!! And if that is your first real effort at a video it's a great job and very well done

    Loved it

@Bajan Blue  . . . Wow Nigel . . . hoped you would see this, and I very much appreciate your comments !

I've watched a lot of your excellent video work here on the forum, so lots of inspiration to pull from there. I think video really helps to convey a story of the song for most people, if there is a story to be told. When it's audio only, it really leaves the interpretation open ended. This was hard to do for me, but I do hope to get better at it . . . need to practice and experiment a lot more.

Bruce, your voice is fantastic in this song, and the video is a good example of what one can do with limited resources.  You and Mark deserve a standing ovation!

@Lynn Wilson . . . thanks so much Lynn ! What a fun project it was, always like to try some different things.

Hi, sorry that wasn't my intention.

I make sure to participate and not come to get information.

Unfortunately it must be a translation problem.

I'm more into orchestral research so my listening is more directed towards films, but when I find a nice piece I find it normal to leave a comment like for those who are in the past on my posts, and not try to advertise myself , it's just out of sympathy and out of respect

If my presence poses a problem I just have to delete my account I don't think anyone here will miss me, so for me it's the music that matters to me , I'm not here to impose myself.

    Good evening to you.

@PascalHP . . . didn't mean to offend you, it's not a big deal . . . looks like the forum software really enlarges the SC link when you embed it in your signature . . . doesn't do that on the phone version, so it kind of surprised me when viewing on my desktop. Also, didn't mean to make you feel unwelcome  . . . please stay !

Hi, although I'm not really into this style of listening anymore the video is very nice as well as the track, a nice ride. Super.

@PascalHP . . . hey, thank you for having a listen, and your comment . . . but, just don't think it's very cool to advertise your own stuff in someone else's thread, why not start your own thread, for your own stuff ?

  7. Hey folks . . . first time posting a video. (I'm kind of new to music videos . . . whole different thing from my usual audio) This song was posted here about a month ago, where Mark Alan Skinner collaborated with me, and helped re-record WAITING ON A TRAIN . . . he's played acoustic guitars, mandolin and stand-up bass . . . so, then I had this video idea !

Free software, and free videos helped make this possible, as I have limited resources for this kind of thing . . . let me know what you think  . . .

  8. @mark skinner . . . very cool blending  of acoustic and electric guitars . . . there are some exquisitely sustained electric notes you used throughout, very nice touch.  Also like the sound you got from that sidestick snare with deep reverb . . . the piano and slappy bass additions really make this sound like a jazzy piece, so much going on, a 5 piece modern jazz combo . . . always experimenting you are !

  9. Sounding really good, really like the tune ! Your voice is always top notch in my opinion, and the lyrics here work very well to define the overall song idea. As I listened a few times, I thought perhaps the arrangement could use some eighth notes to help drive it along a bit in places, as you've used so many syncopated rhythms through all the sections. Maybe eighth notes in the verse bass part, or even just hihat, might really top this piece off some. Just my humble suggestion, but for sure I enjoyed this ! . . . old school love, I remember it well . . .

Guys, this just sounds excellent ! , vocals are clear, mix is smooth to listen to . . . a well written song (and the awesome guitar work captured perfectly) . . . I've heard all the mixes, as it went along, and where you got to is simply amazing . . . congratulations !

    This.

Say you can have the default basics but then an option to enable the whole works.

In a way it’s that Cakewalk uses one key shortcuts, most software uses combination shortcuts. I like this myself. In Cakewalk split is S. elsewhere it seems to be Ctrl S.

Where I’ve often toggled a huge mess is when trying to name a track. You think the name dialogue is in focus but it isn’t.

For sure, one key shortcuts can do damage . . . I remember the "O" key used to enable (and disable) Offset Mode . . . great way to wreck a mix if you hit it by mistake, and carry on not noticing.

Though my fav single key shortcut, that I learned here on this forum years ago,  is reprogramming (in Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts) the < and > keys. These can be set to cycle through the project Markers, no damage done.

  12. Well, the samples are real, and it's composed and presented by a real person . . . real enough for me, enjoyed it !

Interesting that I "think" I can hear the difference between the Indiginus sampled and the real Alvarez guitar . . . I think it's mostly in the sustain of some notes. The composition alludes to a jazz guitar playing  staccato chord patterns . . . the real guitar seems to nail those staccato notes better, but a very subtle difference indeed, especially the way you've mixed it.

NOPE. Do you really believe the plan was not to have a viable product to SELL at some point? Of course it was. Also, nothing wrong with that-smart business!

So in my opinion CW by BL has had over 4 years to come up with a sales plan.

Also, I imagine NONE of the long time CW users like me (35 yrs) and many others didn't ask or care that it was free.

I would have gladly paid for it. Just sayin!

For sure, folks who love the software will pay, I never believed free could be sustainable . . . I'm just saying, looks like it's moving towards more of a partnership with BandLab, brand new marketing plan, and Cakewalk will have to re-join the reality of the DAW wars, and find and develop new features to stay afloat.

  14. I believe you can cancel the Backstage Pass at any point, if something else is offered that makes more sense for your personal situation, limited time demo if you want. In reality, it's only a discount of about $5.00 for the first month.

Anyways, it's a chance to support BandLab, who have offered an amazing free DAW for 5 years, ain't that worth something ? . . . especially if you want to continue working on your existing, and older projects.

For those of us who have made the plunge to new Sonar, we get it, it's totally clear where things are going after working in the new version for a few weeks, the new clarity is not just the vector graphics, it's also the less cluttered GUI. Everything is in the same place, just a few adjustments visually. Bring on the feature enhancements.

  15. Well done, well written guys . . . now that's a chorus ! Lynn really jumps boldly into the spotlight for that guitar solo, really excellent I thought. In my studio, on my Tannoy Active monitors, the mix sounds great . . . I like the drums and bass right where they are in this latest mix. Also thought the vocals, and particularly the lyrics are quite engaging, rounding out a simply great tune to listen to !

  16. So, you freeze a track . . . and it renders to audio. All the plugins in the FX Bin go dim, presumably meaning they have been applied to the audio render . . . yet, you can still open the plugins in the FX Bin, and even make changes, which of course have no affect, because they are frozen. Why not have the software disable even opening them ? I'd like to know the reason. After all . . . only morons will try to edit frozen plugins, right ?

If you try to add another plugin to the frozen FX Bin, it lets you do it . . . why is it even possible ? After all . . .

Curiously, you can still edit / change the automations of frozen tracks, so those are independent of the freezing.

It's just something I've always wondered about, and has tripped me up a few times, wondering what happened to my mix, if I dare to unfreeze.

  17. Nigel . . . good to see (and hear) your hard work has paid off, and thanks for posting your milestone of progress . . . much respect for what you do . . . and hope you'll keep posting your stuff here, and keep inspiring all of us !!
