  1. C’mon Klevgränd! Where are the deals? It’s been Tuesday for more than eleven hours here in Europe! And in Tokyo it’s 18:20 (that’s 6:20 pm for those of you that only can count to twelve).
  2. Have a look at Synthesia. You can feed it with MIDI or you can play it yourself. Test it for free, unlock it for $29. All future upgrades are free once purchased, as far as I know. Here’s an example from YouTube by the composer Johannes Bornlöf: Twinkle of the Lights And another one by the same composer: Wolfpack
  3. If Tines comes at a big discount, I just might make an exception to my never-buy-another-plugin-ever-again---and-that's-final policy.
  4. Thanks, I didn’t know there was an updated Command Center, but now I’ve updated my Command Center 1.1.7.1 from 2016 to version 1.1.8.1 from June 2023. After that, the SONAR Platinum activation worked perfectly. And for anyone who needs to know, here’s a download link to the updated Command Center: https://taylor.cakewalk.com/Command-Center PS. I don’t know who Taylor is, but he must be a pretty, pretty important guy over at BandLab, having his own subdomain and all.
  5. I suddenly realized that although I installed SONAR Platinum on my most recent laptop some two years ago, I have never opened it – I’ve only used CbB. So, I started SONAR Platinum and was (not surprisingly) met by a message saying that I needed to activate it. When trying to do just that, Command Center told me that it can’t get in contact with the Cakewalk server. And, of course, I understand that’s due to the changes being made to the activation back-end server earlier this month. So, is it even possible to activate SONAR Platinum on this laptop? Perhaps by sending an offline activation request file to Cakewalk support and get a response file in return? Or, is activation of legacy products simply impossible from now on any computer?
  6. I’m not using Camtasia for video editing, but for screen capture with the possibility to add things like annotations, transitions and mouse effects. Or at times to simply extract the sound from say a YouTube clip to be used as a reference track in Cakewalk. For things like that it’s absolutely perfect.
  7. Even with a 25% discount, Camtasia is pretty expensive. When Camtasia 9 turned up on Humble Bundle back in 2018, I actually bought two licenses for $20 each. Sure, it was the next to latest version, but still. Guess we’ll never see such prices from TechSmith again. But a $121 upgrade, including a free upgrade to the next version, seems almost reasonable.
  8. If you have created a user defined workspace on your old computer and would like to have it on your new computer as well, simply copy the corresponding workspace (.LNS) file stored in %APPDATA%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\Lenses\User and paste it to the same destination on your new PC. If you have updated a factory workspace, you'll find the .LNS file it %APPDATA%\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core\Lenses\Factory.
  9. They are indeed late to the game, but that tutorial was released in May, well ahead of the announcement of Sonar and Next. As was this thread. Vaporware is when something is presented at an early stage of the development cycle, but never appears as a finished product. That's not the case here. Hard to say unless you’ve seen the Groove3 tutorial and can make a comparison.
  10. You seem to be stuck in an endless loop. Try to deactivate the Loop On/Off button.
  11. Not all cruises are created equal. Some fifteen years ago I made a cruise from Cyprus to Egypt to see the pyramids. That was actually pretty scary. When we arrived to Egypt and made the bus transfer from Port Saïd to Cairo, we travelled in a convoy consisting of maybe ten buses. But not only were there armed soldiers travelling in jeeps in the front and in the back of the convoy, there was also an armed guard sitting next to the driver in each bus. Also, every ramp onto the highway all the way to Cairo was temporarily blocked by armed police in order to prevent possible terrorist attacks. Yowza. They had forgotten to mentioned that in the cruise brochure. Still, the pyramids and the Egyptian Museum were great. A tick mark on my bucket list.

Exactly. I’m using the word professional here to separate the use of word processors in commercial businesses from the millions upon millions of privately owned licenses. I don’t put any additional value into that word. And, of course, any company that wants to stay alive needs to be professional. I hope I’ve made myself clear by now. För övrigt – ha en fortsatt trevlig lördag, Mark! 😊

I think you’re missing my point. In all the companies I’ve ever worked for, there has been a set of file format standards so that daily work can be performed as efficiently as possible. Nobody has time or motivation to convert between multiple document formats, if that’s even possible (in my example above with Review/Track Changes, it’s not). So, I’m not saying that any of these document formats is better than the other, I’m saying that corporations have to decide upon a standard document format to avoid waste of time and loss of information. And that would more often be Microsoft Word, or should I say Microsoft Office, than anything else. Just Google for number of tutorials available Personal preferences has nothing to do with it.

Me too. In a professional working environment, I would say it's impossible to use anything but Microsoft Word. As long as there are incompatibilities between Word, LibreOffice and OpenOffice, most importantly to me in the Review/Track Changes area, nobody is going to accept anything but pure docx. But sure, if you only have to open, edit and save documents that you’ve created yourself, or maybe exchange documents with friends and family, you’re probably good to go with any freeware alternative.
  15. Why all this pointless speculation? Wait until Sonar is released and make your decision whether to buy or not based on the information given at that time. Until then, so many posts here are just uninformed guessing and spreading of FUD.
  16. Or, optionally, right-click on a folder and select "Insert Track Sub-Folder".
  17. Maybe the Cakewalk bashing should be turned down a bit? I wouldn’t be surprised if the introduction of Sonar and Next in due time would also result in a reorganized forum. The Coffe House sub-forum is in no way Cakewalk related. If the core products are constantly being bashed, here and in the Deals forum, the future existence of those sub-forums might be questioned by the owners. Just my two cents.
  18. When comparing the manual for Synth Anthology 3 to that of Synth Anthology 4, SA3 has 132 synths vs 200 for SA4. Also, SA3 has about 3,700 presets, compared to just over 5,000 for SA4. As a result, SA3 requires 15GB of disk space, whereas SA4 requires 21GB. I have SA3 and will keep it. Regardless any potential enhancements and being offered the update for €49, I hate the new four-shades-of-gray UI of SA4.
  19. I think that would be a small price to pay for not having this forum filled with fake 800 phone numbers and spam. After all, newly registered users desperately needing immediate help would still be able to contact Cakewalk tech support directly instead of going through this user forum. Another way would be to severely restrict the number of posts a newly registered user is allowed to post in one day, maybe in combination with also tracking the IP address of user registrations and blocking more than say two or three user registrations from the same IP address in a single day.
  20. When you say channel strip, I guess you mean ProChannel in Cakewalk? If so, as far as I know the last version that worked as a ProChannel module was 2.5.46 from May 2022. Later versions unfortunately seems to crash CbB. Softube has been made aware of the problem and acknowledged there's an issue, but haven't given any estimate if/when this is ever going to be fixed. I guess ProChannel support in CbB isn't on top of Softube's priority list. There is no separate "channel strip file". ProChannel currently only supports VST2. As I understand it all VST2 plugins that supports PC have two interfaces; one "normal" UI and one separate for ProChannel. My solution to the issue in CbB has been to keep the VST2 version of 2.5.46 of Passive-Active Pack. I do the same for Softube FET Compressor v1 which has the same problem. As for the VST3 versions, I'm always using the latest. So if you were to buy Passive-Active Pack and want to run it as a ProChannel module, my advice would be to ask Softube support for an installation file of version 2.5.46, install it, and then keep a copy of that DLL in a safe place as it will be overwritten whenever you run Softube Central.
  21. In the Control Bar, the Event Inspector allows the Period character to be used as divider when manually specifying Time and Duration for MIDI events as a replacement for the Colon character. That’s very efficient, provided you’ve got a Period key on the numeric keypad. However, for those of us using the metric system, there’s usually a Comma key instead of a Period key on the numeric keypad. Unfortunately, a comma is currently not a valid replacement for colon when specifying Time and Duration. So, would it be possible to accept commas in addition to periods in those two input fields?
  22. I just found out that you can optionally drag-and-drop a track icon from File Explorer onto a track to replace the existing icon. Any part of the track will work as destination, so you won't have to drop it on the existing track icon. This action will (almost always) also update the icon in the Track Inspector and the Console View as well, but sometimes you'll have to switch selected track to trigger a repaint of those icons. Fun fact: This drag-and-drop feature is currently not documented in the Online Help, nor in the Reference Guide. Edit: I've later noticed that File Explorer isn't needed. In your Media Browser, it's possible to navigate to your Track Icons folder and drag-and-drop icons directly from there. I've personally saved my Track Icons folder as a Content Location Preset, so it's always easily accessible. The one drawback with using the Browser, instead of File Explorer, is that you can't see the source icon as an icon, only its file name.
  23. Hats off if the Bakers have managed to create a fully scalable, vector-based GUI that looks pretty much like CbB. I remember that Ben Staton in a post three years ago mentioned that a revision of the GUI was about to begin late 2020, so there have definitely been a major code rewrite going on.
