I don't think I've ever heard a decent live recording of a band unless there were thousands of dollars thrown at it.. This is because most venues have crappy acoustics. No matter how good the recorder is. As a suggestion I wouldn't discount the average consumer camera. Most of them can take wonderful video. This was taken on an old Cannon 70D. My wife bought a new camera and gave me her old one to play with. IMHO nothing Zoom makes matches the video quality. The 70D is probably 10 years old? I use it to see my mistakes when practicing my violin. In this video I could have used a bit more rosin on my bow since there were a few squeaks here and there.....anyways, I think the video is pretty outstanding quality wise. Not necessarily playing wise. I'm using the standard mics in the camera. I have a handheld TASCAM recorder and I would recommend something like that for capturing audio for a demo video. They are all similar, tascam ,zoom etc. Then just join them in a video editing program. I only used the camera mics here and with the higher ceiling in that room it was good enough for me to hear my mistakes. Might be good enough for a "demo video" . So if you already had an old digital camera this might be an option. One thing I noticed about putting video on YouTube- On my computer sometimes the video is grainy initially and "catches up" becoming better after a minute or so. Maybe this is just the video in my computer? I noticed uploads sometimes are not in HD and take awhile to go to HD. Until then you get SD video feed. You will need to specify HD on uploads too.

I can't say sasquatch rub would have been my first choice for barbeque. They generally smell pretty bad from what I hear. Short story- I was given one of those ceramic grill smokers recently and have been experimenting with it. I had a different type a few times before this but they all rusted and I threw them out. I made some ribs on it this past Sunday and used a great rub. One of the secrets to this is you put maple syrup all over the ribs to hold on the rub and give the ribs a nice sweet taste. I don't usually like ribs...but these would make you slap your momma. I can smell them now while I type this. Yum. WAY better than those pre packaged pre flavored ribs you can buy here. I had to laugh at those dog videos. I have two yorkies from the same litter and this is exactly what they do. When they watch TV they look like the're scouting prey. The cable company here has a deal where they allow you to watch sample videos for unsubscribed channels. One of those subscriptions is the pet channel. No lie. This is for those who want to have something for their dogs to watch. Cats too I guess. It's all doggies 24/7 just doing doggie stuff. ....anyways......the Yorkies are very territorial and went into attack mode sometimes jumping 2ft off the floor. That's saying a lot for a dog that's only 14" long. Full on barking. They see every dog as a threat. No doggie channel here of I would never have any peace. Needless to say taking them to a pet park wasn't a very good experience either. They think they are lions. Have no concept that some dogs poop bigger than them. I have seen them scare big dogs which is funny. Any other time they are so docile and loving you wouldn't know. Kenny I'm not convinced you're a sasquatch. You wanna see hairy? Heck I have hair growing on my hair. I'll send some pics......second thought, I don't believe that's something you really want to see. There's a reason people clear the beach if I show up with no shirt on. If i stand really still around Christmas time people try to hang lights on me.

Interesting hobby. Sasquatch is quite elusive. They can find chipmunks and squirrels by they can't locate an 8ft tall biped. Hmmmmmm. Word has it he's inter dimensional ,has an uncanny knack for camouflage or both. Maybe you remember the Mt St. Helen's eruption? Time for the popcorn

Glad to hear things are gradually clearing up. The whole fire episode has at least one positive effect. It cleanses the land and allows for a "reboot" of the ecosystem. The downside to that is trees take a very long time to grow back. Everything starts back at square one again. Maybe an opportunity for agriculture that might not have been possible with all those trees in the way. We might have MJ farms popping up all over the place. I was thinking more along the line of wineries or vegetables. Who knows? People can be industrious and creative. Looks like there's a lot of charcoal to be had. I need that for my smoker Sasquatch will probably be moving further north into Canada. What? You don't believe in Sasquatch?

Kenny and Dave I hope the air clears soon over there. Crazy! There were fires in California not long ago. Makes me wonder if there will be anything left to burn after this? On the plus side (maybe) the rioting in Portland will die down? One can only hope. Aside from those who have lost homes and even their lives through this I wonder how this will affect the agriculture. All of those crops and wineries burned up. On the plus side probably won't be any issues with the Japanese Lantern Fly there. I've never been out west. Had plans to see it. Will there be anything to see?

Congrats Mesh on a fine axe! I had the C-1 Hellraiser similar to the first pic. The one with the deep reddish finish. Build quality was second to none. Could belt out some very complex interesting tones from the pick ups. I love the way that guitar looked. Mine didn't have the FR or the sustainiac which was the main reason I sold her. Otherwise it would have been one to hang onto. Probably could have outfitted my C-1 with those but not enough time in the day to do it. Made more sense to just get something else. Then I ended up playing keys so I drifted away from it. Do you have an amp or will you play it through a computer sim? I like the finish on the one you bought. They made thousands of those red ones and you can find them used all over the place on the used market. The one you picked has a more neutral look to it and I might not have immediately identified it as a Schecter.

I'm sorry to hear of your angst with Win 10. When it works it seems to work well. Maybe there is something to be said for preventing automatic updates. This has been most of my problems so far. Using DAWs with different sound settings and updates. I'm still using the OEM Home version of Win 10. Lately I've been getting the occasional " Bad Pool Spooler" blue screen. Then it just says we will reboot your computer now and tell Microsoft you're royally screwed. It always asks me what I want. -Would you like to shut down update computer and shut down? -Would you like to update computer and reboot? - Would you like a hot poker in your shorts ? ...ok I made that last one up.

I don't miss those days of loading gear or the back aches. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it again under the right circumstances. Much prefer a resident instrument and sound system if possible. Who doesn't I guess. Toward the end of my loading in days I started buying less capable but lighter keyboards like an M-Audio ProKeys 88sx. 88 keys extremely lightweight. Bread and butter sounds. It had some cool things in it like transposition, also a midi controller. I took a laptop along sometimes to augment the onboard sounds. The trade off was it wasn't nearly as nice as a Korg Kronos or Yamaha Motif....but these were simple gigs with basic requirements.

HSS was my favorite setup on electric because of the tones you could get out of it. The only other thing I ever wanted was a basic Fender Telecaster....oh and maybe a nicer Martin acoustic...and.........

Wow, there probably wasn't a perfect approach to that. Years ago I helped move heavy cast iron boilers out of basements. Similarly these things are HEAVY. Only one way out...narrow steps. In contrast, our only concern was that we didn't damage the home in removal. The boiler didn't matter. I recently was reminded how fun that was when I replaced my old boiler . It took two of us to get it out and I was seriously wondering if the steps were going to hold it and us. Luckily the new one was more efficient and about 500 pounds lighter. Pianos? TBH the way the average consumer is today I would be afraid of either being sued or replacing an entire room interior because of one scratch. I have seen this before, " You guys made a mark on the wall." " Can't match the wall covering, you'll need to replace the whole room".The reason why moving them is probably much more expensive. Move a 700 pound large instrument through an average doorway without so much as a smidge on it or any marks in the house is a tall order. Moving it would be well planned, methodical, and a backup plan in case plan one fails. Other necessities- insurance and maybe a little crazy or a penchant for risk taking. A good argument for keyboards/controllers? Not the same though. The sound coming from two monitors .vs the actual sound is a world of difference.

That may have come across as tense. It wasn't. I'm an analytical type and sometimes get carried away...🤔 Do older well played instruments have the occasional ding? I think that's a given. It's how we deal with it that I find interesting.

If I didn't care. I mean REALLY didn't care, I wouldn't care to ask if I should care UNLESS I really do care but don't know how much I care compared to others. In which case I might look around to see how much anyone else cares to see if I should try to care more based on how much others care OR I might be into psychology and that might interest me why some people care and some people don't care OR maybe there are a few in between on the scale. They care but not enough to say it really matters while others care so much it's embarrassing. Then the question would beg, IF I care then why? Is it an internal sense of orderliness or is it how I might want to be viewed by others or is it both? Maybe instead I just want an efficient tool and have concerns that if it gets bumped the wrong way it might not work as well and possibly need setup again? Obsessive compulsive could enter into this. Why do we generally like clean or semi clean cars when a dirty car has nothing to do with the car's actual performance? Have cars become like an extension of ourselves much like clothing? Is it similar to seeing a person dressed shabby? If we are judging others by their guitars, cars, houses, exterior what does that say about us? Why do people buy guitars? Choose specific body designs and colors? This is apparently about some kind of a statement or else guitars would be much more mundane. So this is somewhat about individuality aside from any notes played is it not? Could some of it be about owning something that we know someone else wants or desires? Would we even admit that? What I find interesting is that most of these guitars either are or were mass produced. How does that infer any kind of individuality? Just so you know I am not the type to really care. It wouldn't matter if I did Most of what I buy I plan to use. My expectation is that at some point it won't look like it did the day I bought it. Tho I'm not mainly a guitarist I have a few of em' hanging up on my wall and a few in cases. I have to remind myself I have them since I started using vsti guitars .

MP2 is a nice value for the money. I believe IK have done some work since the last version. I found the "score writers" patch recently. Sounds pretty good. Everything is right there for you all mapped. No need to change midi channels, just click on the instrument/section. If you later on decided to change those sounds to a different library it can be done using the midi. The thing that differentiates most of the high end libraries from the lower range ones is mic position which often equates to dynamics. Close mics are more up front and intimate. Far mics capture more of the hall sound. Some libraries are 16/44.1 and some are recorded at 24/96 or higher. You often can't tell the difference. BBCSO Discovery uses more distant mic positions so even removing all the reverb you will still hear the verb making that library limited for more up close sound and feel. In order to get a more intimate up close sound you need to buy their higher end libraries since they have more mic positions. MP2 seems a good in the middle library in every sense of the word. Maybe not quite as dynamic as a few other but far better than many more. MODO bass is a winner. I have lots of basses and I am now always going for MODO bass. Sits well in the mix sounds like a real bass player played it with little fuss. The reason I didn't look at EZ bass. I don't need it. I prefer to make my own bass parts and don't need pre cut ones. MODO fills the gaps nicely. I Looked at MODO drums and wasn't entirely sold on it. The main thing for me isn't the ability to pick my drum combos, heads tuning etc. For me that's overkill. The main thing is musical loops that fit well. It's a tough sell on me because I have several other well known drum programs. I mostly end up using a simple kit with a simple rhythm. Not over and above from my perspective but same as. Would probably give a real drummer a johnson though with all those drum selections. Like a kid in a candy shop. In the one video I watched I could hear the excitement in the guys voice. I thought to myself, " yep he's a drummer".

I had to dig to revive this 3 pages in. I was pretty tough on IK. Maybe why Peter was pretending I didn't exist TBH initially things did not work for me. I didn't want others to attempt it given the situation. It was worth the wait to try it again in a few days. Not sure if it was the windows updates that caused issues or something else. Just wanted to say. It works now for me. IK must have cleared the bugs up. Seems most here are now getting pretty good results.

DaVinci keeps coming up in different circles for me. Not heard of Video Pro X. Might be worth a try. I was looking at those full frame Panasonics for video work. That stuff gets deep....and eventually expensive if you pursue it. I'm still trying to decide where I should be there. My video now sucks I ain't gonna lie. I was seriously eyeing drones. I imagined some nice footage a bout 10 miles from here of the mountains and the river....when I think about the river I get nervous and the daydream ends....The river, a 1200.00 drone. A beginner. Maybe I would rather have a hot poker shoved ....never mind. Drone insurance? If only they could make a submarine flying drone.

Is it a grand on wheels? Don't beat yourself up over it. I think we've all done stuff like that. I know I have. Just hired a guy to pave my driveway. One call identified all the wires. I showed them to him.....but I had this hunch, this feeling about it. Somehow I knew he was still going to hit the wires. I'm sure you were like, " Now guys be careful here, these pianos scratch easily." But Houdini had too much coffee that morning and the rest is history.

Hi aidan Thanks for that bit of advice. Some systems do tend to mix those two folders up. Mostly for me though the effects plugins would scan ok , then I would get adventurous and drop something like Waves Abbey Road chambers onto the audio track, then " uh oh" screen goes white. I'm thinking maybe if I wait for a few minutes things will self correct...... wishful thinking. Screen freeze. The software can't seem to handle it. Lately if I am mixing a video I don't even bother. I either use the included plugins or export the audio track for work elsewhere. I have sort of grown to accept it for what it is.

Acoustical cardboard? That's a first for me. I have had music fall off the piano into the strings while playing. The strings that made a sound were detuned. The other strings affected didn't sound at all. Everyone stops to look at you and it gets really quiet for a bit. I was a church pianist and I remember being told by pianists that I was hitting the keys too hard. They had a point. I knew I was hitting them hard. Everyone else liked it. Three little old ladies in particular sat toward the front on my side would complain. They kept coming after that for a bit, then I never seen them again. Not sure if they died or grew tired of my playing. The helicopter effect was fun though. Play softer on the verses and then hit them hard with the chorus WHAMO! The old guard weren't as keen on the types of music I played. On some of it I revved up similar to Jerry Lee Lewis lol. Those with no point of reference liked it which was usually 99% of that crowd. That piano was a Schimmel grand the church had bought used and it was expensive back 20 years ago. Since then it has appreciated in value and is now worth quite lump of change. With the lid up it could hold it's own even against a plugged in guitarist ( playing modern church music). Loud for a grand piano and the tone was nice. The institution I work for is a dedicated Steinway school. I guess in order to get that designation you need to buy a bunch of Steinway pianos. The music building is packed with them. It was no easy task. I remember a window had to be removed to get a few of them on upper floors. Steinway pianos are especially picky about humidity and it can sometimes be a lot of work to make sure they are properly cared for. I would imagine bars, clubs and the like would be very abusive environments for pianos. Who knows what the temps are at night when they close? Pianos also need to be tuned regularly. Some are probably more diligent than others to get them tuned at least once a year.

Maybe this is why I liked the keybed in my old Roland Juno Stage. Seemed a little zippier. I have heard lots of keybeds are the same in different makes of boards. Also would be curious to know what the actual force is on a typical piano. Likely varies with different pianos. For faster synth work I don't like piano feel. I'm stuck with it right now and it makes those fast solos more cumbersome IMHO. Still hesitating on buying a dedicated midi controller since I think I would miss not having something with internal sounds, even though most of my work lately is using a vsti.

I have the most recent version of Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. Been using ACID 9 very rarely but still like to keep it around. Thinking about the 10 upgrade. Music Maker isn't anything to get excited over. I uninstalled it from my computer. I have considered Vegas Pro which is still expensive using Magix crossgrade pricing. One thing these Magix video programs do is load video efx that you don't really own. You load it up and realize you have to buy it. I find that frustrating. The price to buy some of those video efx is also pretty steep. In the video realm I'm more like a loops producer in that I use existing video and don't often go out capturing my own. I agree that though vst plugins are supposed to work in Vegas the implementation has been very glitchy for me. Loading up cpu heavy vsts usually freeze it up. Vegas prefers to work with the limited plugins offered in their list. And I'll admit my head is spinning on just what they offer, what it's supposed to do, how it's supposed to be better than the last version. They offer too many similar products and not enough explanation as to the differences. I didn't look closely at the "deal" yet ZincT. Maybe there's some light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks.
