Cakewalk Stays In Memory After Exit / Cannot Re-Launch
sjoens replied to Adam Grossman's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Sorry, by Fail to Open I meant initially opening CbB when another program is using any type of audio source. -
The collapse button (<</>>) works for this, but it would be less confusing if the Synth buttons were still there. Especially when the Synth Rack is the only window open in the Browser.

Cakewalk Stays In Memory After Exit / Cannot Re-Launch
sjoens replied to Adam Grossman's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
For me, in these 2 cases, the Task Manager trick never works. Usually requires shutting it all down with a system reboot. Sometimes the (initial) Fail to Open scenario can be fixed by closing the offending program which releases the audio. (Edited) -
Currently obsolete. Tabs are leftovers from when the synth rack was part of the Browser. A while back they separated it from the Browser even tho it's still tied to it. Confusing for sure when collapsed. I would have preferred they left it as-was and made each tab draggable out to it's own floating window instead of just the synth rack.

Cakewalk Stays In Memory After Exit / Cannot Re-Launch

It will also (initially) fail to open after the splash screen if ANY other program is using ANY other sound device. This and the OP's issue have been a constant feature set shared by NO other DAW or program. ? "Exclusive control" is deactivated. This and the OP are my most requested fixes before any other feature or bug fix. (Edited) -
This happens when the 2 screens are scaled differently in Display Settings with CbB on screen 2. Did not happen before 2021.04.

I'm not aware of a way to do that. You can display other tracks by highlighting the track numbers and they will be darker than the focused track.

Stuck key... ?

When using CbB 2021.04 on a 2nd monitor, the Insert > Soft Synth dropdown File menu floats on the 1st monitor. It doesn't stay with the program.

It's on the "Large" module but not the "Small" one. "Go To Start (RTZ)" Not sure why they call it that. RTZ = return to zero. ?

documentation Young Lady's Illustrated Primer to Theming Cakewalk
sjoens replied to Colin Nicholls's topic in UI Themes
Curious what they'll do when the Inspector Header is no longer big enough to add icons for all the stuff they keep adding to it. ? Maybe it's time for a 3rd collapsible view. p17: According to the PURPLETRATOR test, "Export" will always be written in White. So we are constrained somewhat in our design choices. Also, even though there are 5 slides in the element, only the first one is used. The button does not change when clicked, only the menu appears. There's a few like this. Not sure why they don't carry thru on some of these buttons. They did fix one a while back after I mentioned it's spring had sprung. I think any new function should also be color customizable now that it's a thing. -

To clarify: Wide EQ Plot screen is located under ProChannel Narrow EQ Plot is located under Console View | Modules | ProChannel Would like to see minor inconsistencies like this remedied.

@Starship Krupa Thanks for doing this! The list of Colors in Preferences is a carryover from the pre-X series and many are now "broken" (non useable or misapplied). The documentation list you linked to is now incomplete and contains colors no longer listed. If colors are important to a theme you can set them how you like and create (export) a color list for that theme. Cakewalk & Theme Editor both contain left-over, non-used graphics from previous Sonar versions as well.

If your interface has multiple inputs, select the one in CbB's track input you want to record from. If your interface only has one stereo input visible in CbB, you won't be able to do it because all tracks will play thru that input.

... or perhaps add a flyout extension to one side of the channel strip like ProChannel does, so adjacent strips aren't covered up.

Download "Everything" and use it to search each HDD for ".cwp". Windows search is slow and often very incomplete. "Everything" is good at finding everything!

Or in Track View... 1. Select the Smart Tool (star) 2. Hover the mouse over the clip where you want to begin deleting 3. Hold the Alt key and click the mouse (cursor will change to scissors) You now have 2 clips. 4. Select the clip you want to delete (if not already highlighted) and hit the Delete key or the Ctrl+X keys 5. Right click the remaining clip and select Bounce to clips.

Can no longer hear YouTube if Cakewalk is minimized
sjoens replied to Steve Patrick's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
No doubt I may have a physical memory issue. Today, as about every other day, CbB continued to hang in memory and not open for any reason. Other versions of Sonar open fine but CbB regularly requires me to reboot the system to clear it from memory. Also, I am unable to set my interface as default. Button is grayed out.
