  1. Well, despite reservations I went ahead and upgraded. I after an hour or two of noodling agree with Reid that their are a awful lot of great sounds to be had. All in all I think I will like it better than Syntronic which is similar in concept. Load times are an order of magnitude faster which is a big help on a preset based product such as this. The editing options are not as great as those in Syntronic but the inclusion of the sub oscillator section is a useful addition when editing sounds. In the sub oscillator section you can change waveforms while keeping the envelope and filter setting unchanged. I find the lack of this ability frustrating in Syntronic. Browsing is always a frustration in synths where in many case patch names are abstract or cryptic. If you have a clear idea of what you want sometimes its faster to dial in a patch from scratch than to audition countless presets. The upside is you can accidentally find inspiration in an unexpected sound. UVI's browser is as good as most and a different ways of organizing the menus helps.
  2. Getting a bad gateway error message on the link, and when I find the site in Google. I suspect a lot of people are interested!
  3. I think there have been a couple of threads on this before. It's a very nice freebie and owners of the original hardware chipped in favourable comments.
  4. I just realized the version I have is version 1 which makes the upgrade more attractive, the interface seems to have been improved. The question of how much I would use it still remains. There is a couple of days to ponder.
  5. Version 2 is good, but, like Syntronic, I have never used it in anger so I doubt if I will upgrade. I tend to gravitate to GForce, Arturia, Synthmaster or Waves (particularly Codex) for my synth sounds. I also use Softube and Cherry's modular if I want to get more creative. Probably what I am saying is I have far too many synths?
  6. Do you want to use a synth to emulate a bass guitar or do you want synth bass? For bass guitar you really want something that emulates different articulations (sustain, mute, hammer on, slide etc) and work them into the part. With synth bass getting variation is a big help. Opening the filter on accented notes can help as can using a combination of legato and staccato notes.
  7. Well with Softube you get both the VSTi and the modules, BUT its synths are around 3 to 4 times the price for the VSTi. I would have quite welcomed a discount to but the VSTi version and it MAY have prompted me to buy, but I am relatively happy to stick with the Modular versions as they give me more versatility. One will hope for updates to the modular versions in due course.
  8. The 2600 was a larger, more versatile synth than the Odyssey. Semi-modular design means all sorts of routing is possible beyond the standard architecture of the Odessey. One would assume this is the case with the VSTi versions. Of course if you really want to get down and dirty with patch chords Cherry already has the 2600 for their modular where you can use it with all sorts of other modules.
  9. A +1 for the Waves Abbey road plates and chambers. The main drawback is they are very CPU hungry but they sound wonderful. I have a Eastwest composer cloud subscription and their Spaces II is my goto convolution. A tad expensive if you want to buy it though.
  10. Batch re-resave in Kontakt can dramatically improve loading times. It's something I do as a matter of course when installing new libraries.
  11. Well I just sold my soul and WUPed via Everyplugin. Waiting or "delivery" so I will probably be updating tomorrow.
  12. Thanks for the inputs. Hopefully I will have time to look into the options this week.
  13. I am wanting to set up a website but I am not sure where to start. It will be for a music project so having the ability to insert media is require. Ideally it would be a .co.uk domain. For hosting I am thinking about Wordpress or Go Daddy, just because I have heard of them. I would envisage the site traffic to be low. Any ideas, advice or warnings? Thanks.
  14. I have this, I am pretty sure it was a freebee at APD a while back. I have only had a cursory look at it so far. I must revisit and see if it has uses beyond EDM.
  15. I had a similar problem related to network adaptors. Waves support helped me get the licences back without using the annual reset. Since I have moved my licences to a USB thumb drive so they are no longer tied to hardware components, having changed my view that this was the more risky option.
  16. I am thinking I will not upgrade the eligible plugins unless I WUP, I am not sure I want three versions. I am toying with the idea of doing the WUP and getting everything up to date but its a lot of money for the privilege. At least there is no intro offer pressuring a decision.
  17. Very nice cello indeed, no doubt the update will make it even better.
  18. Well buried but worth linking for the discussion in the thread.
  19. If it a GM sound it should be one in TTS-1
  20. Seems to be causing some false positives in Acronis.

    XLN updates

Predictably I installed the updates and when I opened Cakewalk I got the "wrong computer ID" message. It was probably the last Windows update that broke it again. I use Adictive Drums so infrequently so it's almost every time I fire it up I have to reauthorize.

    XLN updates

I wonder if its forgotten my authorizations again. Have I the energy to check?
  23. This of course was said by the chancellor, in slightly different words. (leaving it at that for for fear of making a TOS violation.)
  24. I think the last 10 years have been a golden age for non-mainstream music but things are looking grim for independent music in the UK, already squeezed by streaming bands have now lost their touring income and the associated merchandise sales due to the pandemic. Two weeks ago Anathema call an end to a 25 year career at least in part to the extra pressures https://www.loudersound.com/news/anathema-go-on-indefinite-hiatus Today Big Big Train announce they have lost two members, while not citing the pandemic the cancellation of this years European and North American tours cannot have helped. From their social media accounts it seems most bands are soldiering on in increasing despair. Venues were already under pressure financially and from developers, how many will survive is unknown. The final deal between the UK and EU is unknown and could result in a massive increase in cost for UK bands touring Europe adding another level of uncertainty.
  25. he was instrumental in bringing Bob Marley to a wider audience. Reggae icon Toots Hibbert succumbed to Covid a couple of weeks ago too!
