I seldom turn it off completely in Superior Drummer but I may play with the levels or turn it off on one channel if I want a more processed sound for that drum. Thanks for the video link I will look later. I think working with the real drums will have a positive knock on when working with virtual drums.

This is enlightening and enjoyable. I have drum stems from 17 channels not too dissimilar to what you would get in Superior Drummer. Of course the big difference is the bleed, you can't just turn it down of turn it off. Having used Superior Drummer does give a good insight in how to start setting up buses and give some pointers to FX options. I think I should check Groove 3 and Creative Sauce to see if they have any useful videos for further pointers.

Before the pandemic struck. I am really regret not getting to a couple in January & February as I did not fancy long, midnight winter drives, Oh well. This was a Small club in Totnes (England) upstairs for a pub. The Shusss at the beginning is great if you had been there. During the support act there was appalling behavior bu a small group in the audience who had to be ejected. She stamped her authority and reminded as few careless talkers they were there for the music. Not the highest quality video, given how dark it was its amazing they got anything at all.

SOLVED Cakewalk Closing Down after Audio Export
Vernon Barnes replied to Vernon Barnes's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
The last track I exported last night threw up an error message. This looks like it may be project specific as I have exported successfully from another project today. I have PM's you a link to the project and mini-dumps. -

Thanks for the reply Jonathan. So far it has just been the one project, I have not tried anything else yet as I need to get something finished I will look tomorrow and send you a copy of the project. -
SOLVED Cakewalk Closing Down after Audio Export
Vernon Barnes replied to Vernon Barnes's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I was hoping it may have been a setting but its looking suspiciously like crash to desktop. I notice that dispite the project having been saved before the export it does not appear in the start screen recent files. The export dialog also reverts to MP3 rather than the WAV 44.1 24bit setting I changed it to. No error messages appear. I am trying to get everything exported tonight with constant project reloads so I wont be able to do much troubleshooting until tomorrow. -
Since installing the latest update 2020.11 ever time I export audio from CbB the program closes (crashes?) when the export is complete. I am wondering if there is a setting somewher that I have missed causing this or if there is a bug. The exported files seem to complete.

Their license system is probably the worst. I got all mine on a USB stick now, seems to be the best way. But when before I retired managed around 50 licenses of software with a $7500 price tag protected by a USB dongle. in around 10 years we lost 2, and we were mobalising and demobalising operations all over the world and shipping them frequently, so I don't buy the USB sticks are easily lost if you take a little care. Their support quickly helped me recover my licenses when I had disabled a port without using the once a year "get out of jail free card".

CreativeSauce Cakewalk articulation maps vid
Vernon Barnes replied to Steve Harder's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I have yet to try it out but on the strength of this video I think the implementation is better than Studio One's articulation lanes. Of course the articulation lane in conjunction with the chord track is pretty powerful. Let's hope Bandlab implement a chord track soon, now we have articulation maps the chord track is now the only feature that would make me choose Studio One when working with MIDI. -
The note leveler and the sibilance functions are very useful as they function differently to traditional compressors and de-essers, They can be used on small sections at a time for surgical corrections. You may still need to compress and/or de-ess later but the settings can be a lot less aggressive. I have yet to use the chord function but it looks like it could be very useful, particularly in Studio One where I believe it can use S1's chord track. (now - when will CbB have a chord track?)

Well, despite reservations I went ahead and upgraded. I after an hour or two of noodling agree with Reid that their are a awful lot of great sounds to be had. All in all I think I will like it better than Syntronic which is similar in concept. Load times are an order of magnitude faster which is a big help on a preset based product such as this. The editing options are not as great as those in Syntronic but the inclusion of the sub oscillator section is a useful addition when editing sounds. In the sub oscillator section you can change waveforms while keeping the envelope and filter setting unchanged. I find the lack of this ability frustrating in Syntronic. Browsing is always a frustration in synths where in many case patch names are abstract or cryptic. If you have a clear idea of what you want sometimes its faster to dial in a patch from scratch than to audition countless presets. The upside is you can accidentally find inspiration in an unexpected sound. UVI's browser is as good as most and a different ways of organizing the menus helps.

Getting a bad gateway error message on the link, and when I find the site in Google. I suspect a lot of people are interested!

I think there have been a couple of threads on this before. It's a very nice freebie and owners of the original hardware chipped in favourable comments.

I just realized the version I have is version 1 which makes the upgrade more attractive, the interface seems to have been improved. The question of how much I would use it still remains. There is a couple of days to ponder.
-
Version 2 is good, but, like Syntronic, I have never used it in anger so I doubt if I will upgrade. I tend to gravitate to GForce, Arturia, Synthmaster or Waves (particularly Codex) for my synth sounds. I also use Softube and Cherry's modular if I want to get more creative. Probably what I am saying is I have far too many synths?
-
Do you want to use a synth to emulate a bass guitar or do you want synth bass? For bass guitar you really want something that emulates different articulations (sustain, mute, hammer on, slide etc) and work them into the part. With synth bass getting variation is a big help. Opening the filter on accented notes can help as can using a combination of legato and staccato notes.
-
Well with Softube you get both the VSTi and the modules, BUT its synths are around 3 to 4 times the price for the VSTi. I would have quite welcomed a discount to but the VSTi version and it MAY have prompted me to buy, but I am relatively happy to stick with the Modular versions as they give me more versatility. One will hope for updates to the modular versions in due course.
-
The 2600 was a larger, more versatile synth than the Odyssey. Semi-modular design means all sorts of routing is possible beyond the standard architecture of the Odessey. One would assume this is the case with the VSTi versions. Of course if you really want to get down and dirty with patch chords Cherry already has the 2600 for their modular where you can use it with all sorts of other modules.

A +1 for the Waves Abbey road plates and chambers. The main drawback is they are very CPU hungry but they sound wonderful. I have a Eastwest composer cloud subscription and their Spaces II is my goto convolution. A tad expensive if you want to buy it though.

VST Buzz Deal - UJAM Virtual Guitarist Sparkle

Batch re-resave in Kontakt can dramatically improve loading times. It's something I do as a matter of course when installing new libraries. -
Well I just sold my soul and WUPed via Everyplugin. Waiting or "delivery" so I will probably be updating tomorrow.
-
Thanks for the inputs. Hopefully I will have time to look into the options this week.

I am wanting to set up a website but I am not sure where to start. It will be for a music project so having the ability to insert media is require. Ideally it would be a .co.uk domain. For hosting I am thinking about Wordpress or Go Daddy, just because I have heard of them. I would envisage the site traffic to be low. Any ideas, advice or warnings? Thanks.
