I remember buying a single Beat magazine some months ago to get a free software back then.

But in this case it seems that there is no way to buy a single issue of this magazine. Am I missing something or is it just like that?

I got myself a Readly trial. 2 months for 2€. In some countries you can even get a free trial, I believe.

You can subscribe for one month only.

but in my opinion this magazine is worth it

Only those who purchased Icarus2 through our own website (www.tone2.com) after November the 1st 2023 will get the upgrade to Icarus3 for free.
The upgrade will not be free for licenses purchased from 3rd party resellers or those who got Icarus1 for free with CM magazine .

-FROM KVR

Fair enough if your only qualification is the free version, but cutting out those who paid 3rd part vendors is really not a good look on them.

Now this brings back the question - If you got v1 from CM and upgraded it to v2 at www.tone2.com, would that count as purchasing Icarus2 and qualify you for a free upgrade when v3 is out?

Edit - I found the thread at KVR and the answer is yes

[...] the Icarus2 upgrade with extra discount for €59. This upgrade still did not include the Icarus3 license. But we'll take care of you and send you the license manually for free. Send an email to info[at]tone2[dot]com with a reference to this.

Just something to keep in mind for anyone considering upgrades this one might be the end of the road or close to...

It's a bit of a shame really as they make some quite decent synths and effects.

Summary:

- I will not longer develop new products. Instead I will focus on updates and enhancements for the existing ones
- All licenses will stay valid. We do not use a subscription system. Our licenses are not time-limited
- We can guarantee that all products will continue to work also in the future
- There will be no no risk of data loss. If you should loose your backups or loose your links we will take care of you and redeliver the products for free
- The website will stay online
- Support will continue
- There will still be new soundsets
- Most likely there still will be a major update for RayBlaster and maybe there might be Icarus3.x
- There will be no further major updates for our products. Gladiator4.x, Electra3.x, Saurus4.x, Nemesis 3.x will be the final versions.

Some private words:

Sadly I must say that I do not longer enjoy doing my work and developing synthesizers. It's a sum of many diffuse negative reasons over a very long period of time that finally made decide to quit today.
During the last two decades I had to deal with an extreme amount of stress, many very over-emotional/nasty/drunken/high customers, bullshit in forums, harassment, piracy, defamation and trolling. The stress level was so dramatic that I did not only get divorced, but now also have to deal with serious health problems.
That's why I will move on and will not longer develop new products. I simply must focus on more on my health and have more time for my kids.
I must say a big THANK YOU to all those who supported the work of our small company.

There will also not be not longer be support for Tone2 products on kvr.
In the future you will have to use our official support channels if you need something. These are:

Guess common courtesy is hard and even harder not to be a pos. Usually one tends to get better service when being somewhat polite (naturally, there are exceptions but doesn't seem like the Tone2 guy has been toxic from the few threads I browsed on KVR where he participated in.)

Hope the guy gets to a healthier state of mind.

Agreed Kirean, I always try and approach companies nicely even when their product is the problem and causing issues. Most companies don't intentionally create bugs or want to introduce them and it sucks for them too. A lot of the time the person you're speaking with can't even help, they're just handling the ticket.

I felt a bit sorry for him reading that section too (and the health side).

Part of says don't buy their products as the writing is on the wall, but the other side thinks he probably deserves the sales.

My heart goes out to the man. Back in the early 00s, I'd given Michael Kleps of reFX, who Markus worked with around that time, some free advice after he violated a Roland trademark, got a C&D and had to rename a synth. I don't know Markus, I just know of him from back then. But my perception was that Markus was a talented developer and a nice guy.  People in forums can be pretty toxic and I've known a lot of developers and musicians who've shared that they need to take breaks. He's clearly very stressed and he might just need a break. Developers are human like anyone else and dealing with toxic behavior day in and day out can get to you. I've managed digital marketing at companies before founding my own dot com -- including leading social media globally (which includes forums) -- written about it, spoken around the world about managing this stuff and how companies should manage this area. People often think that because you've managed this area or are seen as an expert that suddenly toxic behavior doesn't bother you.  But that's not reality. People can behave terribly in social media and I'm not immune to the toxic behavior getting to me either.  It can take a toll. I regularly take breaks.

According to his statement, Markus isn’t planning on abandoning his products. After a break, he may end up feeling inspired enough to create something new. He's just saying that he doesn't feel like making new products now. Support is still being offered through his website,  just not on KVR. I've always thought he was talented. I wouldn't avoid his work because of this announcement.
