  1. Anybody who has read me at all on this forum knows that I have a passion for world music and world virtual instrument. There are a lot of things I hear often on the internet about world virtual instruments that don't sit well with me. This is my reaction to those things, and that's why it's so personal to me. I consider this my first video. It's also the first one not signed by Tiger, but by Reid. Oh, and if anybody thinks the title is clickbait, please watch the video before you make that claim. I believe the video earns its title. At the beginning of the video, there is a story I tell about the adventures I had working on Ridley Scott's "1492:Conquest of Paradise." When I was editing it, for fun I tried some music by my friend Tatiana Gordeeva, "The Legend of Edward B.," to play underneath it and I liked the way it sounded a lot. So I wrote her, showed her the sequence and asked if she would grant me permission to use "Edward B." in the video. Instead she offered to write original music--and that's what you will hear.
  2. Yes I've got 12 and all the extensions that come with the subscription.
  3. This stuff is too nuts, even for me. I was hoping it was a sale on their samaple packs.
  4. I didn't think they would give it to me, seeing as how I'm a Reason owner and have taken them up on some trials before. But it seems to have worked. And this is plenty of time for me to check this out. The patches load really slowly. I can't figure out how to direct Reason to find them in a faster disk. Anybody know?
  5. i don't think you're being reasonable. 4 GB free system disk space required, plus 8 GB for optional content. In addition, program may use up to 20 GB scratch disk space. With so many libraries out there of more than 100 GB, this doesn't seem unreasonable, even with the scratch disk. Isn't "scratch disk" for virtual memory? So if you have a lot of RAM, your computer might not even use the scratch disk, or at least all of it. $3 is all the reason I need to go for this deal. Hope it works.
  6. I don't think I'm the only one here who would love to go to a concert and hear all the instruments played with toilet brushes. Or maybe just cut to the chase and have an all-toilet brush orchestra. Maybe a few plungers.
  7. Alex does really good videos which show of his products well. Here's one, but there's a whole playlist of them.
  8. My wife came in and saw me waving the toilet brush like a baton, and she thought I was crazy. But she already thought that. I know everybody thought I was joking, but I seriously do think that the toilet brush articulation on PIANO COLORS is very beautiful in that demo. People need to start using toilet brushes on guitars and violins and all kinds of instruments. Wash them well first, of course. 😃
  9. Didn't work out the way I hoped. You can't use an e-voucher on a "special offer," so I had to pay the $149 (plus tax). Downloading it now.
  10. NI licenses are so easy to transfer . The process usually takes minutes and there's no fee. So I'm going to buy this for $125 with my $25 e-voucher. As this is actually a $199 instrument on an intro price, I will sell it for $99 as soon as I get KU14. So it costs me in effect $25 to have it for the two years before I buy KU14 in the summer of 2023. And I have seen people successfully sell NI products with less than a 50% discount, so it could be less than $25. I bought NOIRE this way, but at that time I had a $50 e-voucher. It took about two days to sell it. In fact I sold all my separate NI purchases (ARKHIS, PICKED ACOUSTIC, PERCUSSION upgrade) within a week, except MALLET FLUX, which I still hope to sell. I have little doubt that I will be able to sell PIANO COLORS in a day or so. It will be even easier if I don't wait for the summer sale. I don't always. Of course there is always the risk that NI will go subscription, but if they do, I think it will be like Composers Cloud or Reason, and they will still sell products. The only time you can't sell NI stuff is when they have their own 50% off sales. Anyway, I still have some more drawers to search through. 😃
  11. I just saw that this is $149. All those Asian instruments for $79. Up until this I had been looking at their Vintage Electric for $99. I had decided to buy this, but I'm going to have to look in my sock drawer to see if there are enough loose quarters in there.
  12. His stuff is great, but... During BF, every product in the entire store sold for 2 euros. So the instrument Passsionate Bansuri, which is 45 euros today, went for 2 euros,
  13. Seeing as how you already hear music in colors (watch our podcast to learn about this), I can't wait to hear what you have to say about this. After watching even a short bit of the video... I want this! They've outdone NOIRE and the UVI treated piano.
  14. The main problem with this year's OTS sale for me personally, is that I've gotten pretty much everything I want in previous year's sales.. But it is one of the best deals around. Wonderful products for great prices.
  15. Aside from @Jim Roseberry's comments on latency, what features do you like the most about 11? I'm on 10.5.
  16. All you have to do is comment on the posted version of the stream and you'll be eligible for a random drawing of PATTERN STRINGS (currently $95 at PluginBoutique) So far there haven't been many comments, so your chances are currently quite good. If you watch a little, you can learn about Ben too . More info on Pattern Strings HERE
  17. This means you can finally run Reason in Komplete Kontrol. I know there there are other instruments and plugins I own that are VST3 only, but I can't remember them.
  18. If you have an e-voucher, it's a smart idea to bypass the upgrade and use your voucher to buy the full product. First, you save five bucks. $25 is more than $20. But more importantly, a full product has greater resale value than an upgrade. Sometimes NI discounts the upgrades down to nothing, and then you have to sell it for less than that. Whereas the full product can easily resell for $49. I wish I had thought about this, but I bought it as soon as I heard about it.
  19. The reason I don't try to save money is that the newest version is supposed to be the one with the most bug fixes. Not always--sometimes an update adds problems. So I wait until the summer to let them fix the bugs. And I save a few bucks too. When I have a problem with 10.5 I always wonder if other people had the same problem and complained to Steinberg about it. So the latest version of 11 might fix it. Removing stress from my music-making is more important than saving a few dollars on Cubase updates. For a similar reason I buy NI instruments I want instead of waiting for the next version of Komplete. This year I resold all my instruments except for MALLET FLUX within a week or two. Paying a few dollars extra for EAST ASIA is worth it to me to get it and play it for two years.
  20. I didn't express myself well. This is not about political correctness. This is not about "sinister" overtones. I am only looking at this through an aesthetic perspective. It's just a question of accuracy in my book. Music has never been about borders. It flows like a river. Pretty much all of American popular music is a blend. For me, using the term "World Music" just makes more sense than "Ethnic Music." AmpleSound sells a banjo, which they brand as Ample Ethno Banjo. If there's a young woman in Nashville who learned to play banjo from her father, and he learned from his father--does she think she's making ethnic music with it? She just thinks it's Country. But to a Chinese company like AmpleSound it is only an Appalachian instrument. Ethnic music. To me, when you follow this line of thinking, it doesn't make any sense, that instruments should be categorized as exotic just because of where they are played. We all live on the same world, right? Let people in the political world concern themselves we people who are "ethnic." For us, everybody who makes music is part of our family. And by the way, there is no better example of this than forums like this one. I've made friends from all over the world.
