  1. Jono . . . started out as problem with broadcast waves, then it turned into a problem with doing videos and notation, maybe it's the wrong DAW for your needs, or maybe you're expecting it do do more than it does. It's unfortunate that Cakewalk still even has video "capabilities", and staff view is a long way from notation software.

If we focus on the broadcast waves issue in Export dialog . . . have you used the Export Preset "Clips - Broadcast Wave" ? . . . or, have you tried to save a preset specific for what you're needing to do ?

  2. Hi Mark . . . Great energetic piece ! . . . liking this one a lot . . . you move between acoustic and electric guitar so smoothly here.

You mentioned "Been playing with some vox", so, what about a theme of Country vs. City ? (acoustic is the country, electric is the city)

Also, super harmonica playing, really enjoyed that. (sounds like you and FedEx totally delivered)

Nicely done, the feel is all there, some interesting interplay between the guitar and piano . . . yes, some vocals would really top this off . . . I hope you will develop the idea further into a full song with vocals, it really calls out for that !

  3. Brilliantly done Barry ! Mix sounding great now . . . really enjoyed the Bridge part where you insert some nature against the traffic mayhem, the video really accents that . . . nice touch, sounds excellent, well written tune.

Fantastic! Being a long time bluegrass and country player this is very refreshing to hear something that’s in my radar of good music. Lots of great details in the mix. This totally reminds me of the Blue Dogs. Look them up.
You would  be famous if it was 30 years ago!

@John Vere . . . thanks so much John for listening and your comment. Yes, Mark heard my demo and thought this would work well as a Bluegrass song, and he was so right,  and has the guitar chops to do it . . . glad you liked it, and I'll check out Blue Dogs. I was famous 30 years ago . . . I had an album that went plywood in my neighbourhood. (snare, kick, crash !!)

  5. Barry . . . it starts with that AM radio broadcast, then the vocals come in accentuating those very same AM radio frequencies., probably too much 1-5K. @garybrun suggestion will help this a lot. Interesting that the lyrics are all so clear to understand, but not pleasing to the ear in that middle range, it's a delicate balance.

It is a bit different for you, more synth driven, than guitar driven . . . good song idea, and really liked the lyrics . . . fix that vocal mix, and you've got another winner !

  6. Hi Wookiee . . . super symphony of synthesizers ! Lots of upbeat movement, with that air of danger lurking in the back, the familiar feeling we all know.

From there to there, and here to here, and there to here, and here to there, and everything in between.

Curious, are all the toys you list "in the box", or do you have a collection of old analog hardware synths in your studio ? (lurking in the back)

  7. Hey all you Cakewalkers . . . here's another collaboration I've done with Mark Alan Skinner. I had this strumming acoustic guitar piece in my studio for a while , and just couldn't take it much further. Was trying to record a sampled mandolin part, which wasn't working right . . . so I sent a mix to Mark, who can actually play a mandolin ! Well, a few weeks go by and Mark recorded an acoustic guitar, a mandolin, and an upright bass . . . yeah, that's me singing and strum whacking acoustic guitar in the background. What can I say, the piece was transformed. Let us know what you think, and how the mix translates . . .

Super upbeat song ! "Fostex" , now that's a long time ago, this sounds really good, and well mixed. Vocals are outstanding.

  9. John and  Kluane . . . what a great song ! . . . especially loved the main electric guitar riff that occurs throughout this piece, and the lyric . . . and what a great backstory John, in how you created this, wish I had a mentor like you when I was 14 ! . . . very well done, and much enjoyed.

  10. Cool and stylish . . . and very well played ! (Alternating Current with the Kayak paddles, very nice)

I think I want to hear more volume from that rhodes electric piano sound, especially in the intro part ?

. . . always enjoy your stuff, and haven't heard you take that soprano sax out of the case much, what a great sound you've recorded.

  11. Hey Andy . . . I think this is well composed, and enjoyed it very much ! Many comments above say "nice", but I'm hearing some great potential, even if this may be more of a demo idea mix, the song stands strong on it's own, and if you ever decided to record those harmony vocals in a different way this could be awesome.  There are some Melodyne  or Cakewalk tricks you could also use to get a more "natural" sound, like adding random deviations of pitch, timing etc . . . I actually really like the lyrics and main vocal melody + piano here very much !

  12. Well played . . . and very catchy, many toes were tapping in my household, and even the cat woke up and looked around ! We were watching the pie, watching and waiting for something to happen . . . maybe make some pieces disappear to keep the video interesting ?  Musically, it's all there . . . super smooth groove laid down, great sax work . . . good mix as well, and you've captured the saxes in the mid range very effectively.

  13. Nicely done Jack . . . great pop song, nice chord progression, vocals and melody really different for your usual here, much enjoyed, sensitive this one.

Hello , here's a new instrumental I'm finishing up. I rarely play mandolin or cello but enjoy playing both . Thought I'd do a no pressure instrumental in between vocal songs. Yairi acoustic , "A'"style mandolin and cello used. Kick was built from finger tapping a 15" speaker and percussion (some of it reversed) from tapping and slapping a guitar body. TTS brush kit and additional percussion used. I finally got to use the "whoo" in TTS in a couple of spots. All suggestions for improvement are welcomed .

     Thanks ..   mark

Well crafted Mark, and very creative . . . like you made your own au naturale finger drum kit ? Sounds just perfect blended with acoustic instruments. The feel of this is bang on all the way through . . . high fidelity, soothes my ears after a long rough day in my studio.

  15. Like this tune very much ! You've got a great sense of melody, smooth vocals, and a solid rhythm track . . . the piano part that drives it is very cool, is that some kind of felt piano sound, or did you just mix it like that ? . . . really enjoyed this one, and echo others here . . . let's hear some more !

  16. I'm personally worried about the fact that the new branding announcement was 6 months ago . . . in DAW years that's a few millennium.

     . . . we've had 6 months more of free . . . just roll with it . . . the meter doesn't start clicking down until the new branding is actually in place, I'm thinkin' . . .
