  1. fixed that for ya. wrt the original topic, mos def bought more than needed, but being relatively new to the tarpit, had to live with most of these for a while and do some critical listening before actually hearing what made a difference for me. ... getting there, and appreciating that the tools available are hardly a limitation for creativity. it's more about learning than owning. the biggest GAS brake here is the ad copy/marketing vids that are 95% recycled ad nauseam bs adjectives for mix moves that could be just as easily done with the ProChannel. and have started to name a project for each new purchase. fwiw, a few have been hanging in there and proving themselves where it counts.. planning to upgrade at least a couple project PCs to the latest Intel CPUs/Win11 to see how close one might get to RT tracking with FX and expect a significant purge of the current VST inventory in the move. iirc there was a "game changer" plugin thread somewhere. might be interesting to expand on that with specifics/audio files?
  2. https://emvoiceapp.com/?utm_source=tp&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=bishuapr23&utm_id=gsemail&utm_term=gsemail0723 well, that didn't take long...
  3. does this include all the SPX90 programs, or just Symphonic? i'd only used SPX90 a few times for that "grainy' 80s? reverb. or in a rack for shows. sold it to a guitar player for that patch alone, couldn't pay me fast enough...
  4. Automation Lanes using more than one quickly eats up screen space, making it difficult to edit across multiple tracks perhaps something like a "radio button" mode to set focus might help? with options to link enable multiple envelopes for editing? show/hide envelopes in an overlay mode? either as a dedicated take lane display or over the track itself? the resizing link with take lanes is understandable from a coding perspective, but would be more productive if independent presets would be a nice enhancement (similar to crossfade options) selecting an entire lane is a bit wonky at times, sometimes requires selecting all, then reselecting the lane global settings for envelope colors (believe this already exists...?) Drum map / PRV The last MIDI overhaul was a good one, well thought out and very useful here. a few focused enhancements for drums would make it even more so. disable (please?) 2x mouse left click to display Note/Map Properties dialog it should be a right click event at the least, never a left click triggering kit pieces in the note name panel is helpful, but in reality it is -far- more likely to click more than once to hear a sound which throws up the display which disrupts workflow to close it. AAF. same issue when clicking on an event in the PRV. maintain left panel display width (for drums) PITA when switching from keyboard mode (typically minimized to optimize event real estate) to drum map mode and having to drag out the panel again to see kit piece names implement swipe? selection for Mute Solo remove/relocate MIDI note I/O in the left panel ime, makes more sense as a drum map manager feature, having never used it in the PRV but acknowledge there might be MIDI wizards out there that make use of this level of access implement color coding for each key could get a bit messy, but currently using separate midi tracks to color coding events to good effect disconnect Track View display state from PRV. current implementation hobbles PRV display of MIDI events if MIDI tracks are hidden in a folder Drum map manager could use a rebuild from the ground up, useful, but just painful Enable user access to -all- global keybindings. or at a minimum, provide a default to disable them e.g. "F" is too close to "D" for tracking purposes, evokes a a mnemonic response every time i hit it, there's one in take lanes I still haven't sorted out which requires opening up the Track Manager to recover there are others... Sends There is some hope given the enhancements to FX dialogs. a few changes would help with basic mixing use cases (adding/deleting/changing sends for a track). Pin Delete Send to top of list get rid of "---None---" and replace with "Delete All..." same as FX bin? or Pin Insert/New to top of list Pinning Busses next would be fine Then Aux tracks? Group (bury) any VST options as a flyout per VST driver options would be last on my list, -never- first Audio Engine responsiveness Not quite sure what to say about this as there are so many dependencies, but noting a rather sluggish response for the following actions. Enable/Disable Record for a track Enable/Disable PDC Enable/Disable global FX Resetting A/I buffers (tracking mode to listening/mixing? mode) Understood there is a lot to this, but ime this is an area which will crash CW to the desktop, most likely triggered by a mouse click before the current op is completed. I do not have the same experience with other DAWs. ... fwiw, have only recently been using CW on a regular basis with a limited subset of possible use cases, the forum has been quite helpful but could have easily missed a simple solution to any of the above suggestions. it would be nice to see Next become the platform with a focus on best in class/best practices for each core feature rather than trying to be everything to anybody. jmho
  5. “The enemy of art is the absence of limitations.” - Orson Welles never heard any of his guitar tracks, but ya, things often sounded better when the electricity went out. some limitations can be a real challenge though. don't recall who said this, “The enemy of art is the absence of talent. but sounded familiar. ... the original comment seems to be more about creativity than art. applied to -art-, and specifically music, hip hop might be a classic example, which is reminiscent of another relevant quote (slightly misappropriated). "Good artists copy, great artists sample".
  6. ?? I'm a Man (1st lp), Heatwave (2nd lp) in addition to iconic live versions of Baby Don't Do It, Young Man Blues, Under My Thumb, Roadrunner, etc... idk.
  7. don't know that this really helps, but there's this... https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=107337 ... could see putting AI to work on selecting samples/IRs/loops... (hey Siri, i need a james gadsen groove with highhat only on the 2and and the 4, stat!)
  8. @Grem https://www.pbs.org/show/fanny-right-rock/ (and please don't tag me on this, trying to keep my forum reputation at 420, ya know, for cred with my peeps)
  9. now for Kontakt Player? might get me to at least try it. looks like they have more that will work with player what i thought as well, might've even commented on the initial release, but mostly because not invested in full Kontakt. ymmv.
  10. ya, my impression as well. passed on it when it came out because who needs -another- eq, but looks like a nice problem solver. hoping to see the initial offer price of $79 before the end of the year, otherwise, will be paying a premium for my foolishness.
  11. iirc, you use kontakt. if so, would be interested in ur comments on drums in kontakt, both ux and quality wise.
  12. yes. use it pretty much daily with no problems other than; 1) the initial rollout of InMusics mandatory authorization -requirement- every x months/days or everything gets locked out. BFD would be deauthorizzed without warning after what seemed to be an arbitrary time frame (perhaps based on when a specific product was authorized). reauthorization was dependent on internet access and InMusic server uptime and who knows what else. 2) one with a 3rd party expansion that sorted itself on it's own, so perhaps some other issue? the showstopper was (and still is) their implementation of a proprietary (dodgy) and mandatory authorization -requirement- inflicted by a trojan horse update with the InMusic relaunch which hijacked a 4 figure investment in Fxpansion. No warning, heads up, t&cs, etc on the fundamental change in user expectations based on prior experience with the core team. pretty sketchy way to treat a loyal user base. and then there's anecdotes such as this. i expect not everybody (or even most?) need what BFD offers, but for those who do, there aren't any comprehensive alternatives. best practices here include; 1) maintaining a dedicated PC to run the pre InMusic version of BFD. 2) rendering drum trax for all projects to audio, both pre/post FX (++cost in time/storage) 3) actively looking for a replacement, including the potential for a competitve product. after all, how many more eqs/comps/saturation plugins do you need when you can have more drums? ... for $49, you can have a pretty good time with it, expecially if you play. I'd pay 10x for a DRM free version.
  13. ya, it's just an eq, but this^... is why i have and use it. the trident is the other one.
  14. "The Helios Type 69 consoles are known for their smooth and harmonic sound, heard on legendary records by Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, The Who and Black Sabbath. Lindell’s 69 Channel Strip faithfully recaptures this classic tone in plugin form.:" (demos with loops/clips from last week) the overview would be about 20 mins shorter without the adjectives and basics splaining. all snark aside. Lindell has been pretty good and useful. don't need another channel strip, but this is about the only alternative to the UAD version. wondering if perhaps a Trident channel strip might be next? worth buying to provide some incentive?
  15. my sense as well. been looking into Reaper for x-platform projects but gonna hold off to see how Next stacks up. would rather spend my bandwidth on music than a learning curve.
  16. Will, my bad, was referring to AA cpu hits which end up sounding like digital barbituates or very "varispeed" 🙂
  17. imo, given macro trends such as streaming, covid, ubiquity of mobile apps, accessibility of low cost (and highly capable) creative tools, GoPro, etc, video has/is/and will be a major factor for promoting/distributing creative content. imagine there's a substantial number of legacy users who might not prioritize it, but i see it as a key capability in maintaining relevance and expanding the user base. many NLEs already support some form of audio production. Cakewalk would only need to consider the basics of import/export and audio integration on a timeline. the 80/20 rule should be more than fine. as it's more of a production feature than a creation feature, sounds like a focus for Cakewalk Sonar vs. Next.
  18. me^. Cakewalk has a feature set I find much more productive than any of the alternatives i've worked with. however, there are some things that would be considered "clunky" without having to reference any competitive offerings. many of these can be found here. things like being unable to disable some global keybindings, the "sends" menu display is painfully inefficient, drum map creation, basic audio engine issues when trying to loop record, changing track states takes longer than expected. and those rogue dark matter automation nodes several parsecs from the expected end of the project. however, the only reason i use other DAWs at this point is for Mac based peeps. Perhaps Cakewalk Next should be -the- platform to talk about, built from the ground up? with best-in-class features? leveraging the decades of experience in the team.
  19. finally?! the topic that should be -so- much more interesting than all the subscription/gibson/etc angst. imagine it's a bit too early to get into it but intrigued by the potential, wondering about the roadmap, perhaps a new thread makes sense?
