  1. Now that you mention all this, I remember about a month or two ago (maybe more), Air Music Technology (or whatever the new name is) announced an installer/product manager kind of thing, probably to coincide with their new product line. From what I remember reading, not all of the old products were managed by the new tool yet, but they were working on it. Not 100% sure of the details, just that some of mine were picked up by the new tools and some weren't, and there was some sort of explanation about that. https://www.thempcstore.com/downloads/ https://support.akaipro.com/en/support/home Never mind. I ran the program. Only Bassline is picked up under My Products. All Software lists Hybrid 3 (which I have, is installed, and works), but the new tool will let me get an iLok code (which I already have and is registered in iLok) and install Hybrid 3. DrumSynth is also listed, but I have the older version DrumSynth500. I have a license for Velvet, but I never activated it on any of my computers. The new product manager will allow me to get a iLok code for Velvet and Download it. I don't have a license for the MiniGrand, but the new product manager will evidently allow me to get an iLok code and Download it. There are a lot of Deactivated programs that I am allowed to Download (probably trials so I can choose to buy licenses to activate them if I want). As before, none of my other products are included in listed. There is an Add Product button. Maybe someday I will be able to add my other product licenses there. Since I they are all listed in iLok and since I have them activated and I can use them on my current PCs, I will probably just wait and cross that bridge if and when I get a more modern computer. Thanks for the details you have added here.
  2. @John Vere Thanks for going through the trouble of trying to sort all this out and for reporting all the back-and-forth. I appreciate your optimism (wrt to Air and iLock). So far my Air products (installed on my previous and my current music PCs) still seem to work but I can easily imagine having these kinds of issues if I ever move to a new PC.
  3. Do you live in a place where a local / community library pays for its patrons to access magazines on line? The last time I looked (several years ago), mine didn't. Not sure if they put that into the budget, but I will check. Thanks for mentioning this. UPDATE: Cool! Now that I see OverDrive, I remember trying that like 10-15 years ago. Once. Will have to check it out again. Thanks.
  4. Not sure if you have tried using a custom Workspace. It can be used to exclude some features / distractions. For example, here's one I call "No Views"--it has just the minimal views possible: Functions in Views that have been excluded from a custom Workspace are also excluded. Compare the one above with the following Views: --from a discussion when one user had an issue with the Video View: More often than not, discussions of Workspaces come up when some users find Views and the features they use are accidentally excluded or someone has chosen the "wrong" factory Workspace. But, I have found customized Workspaces can be used to focus on specific workflow tasks. Just an option for reducing features / distractions. Another option is to customize the Control Bar by showing a limited set of modules or by setting unneeded Control Bar modules as Collapsed.
  5. Did anyone else try Ubuntu Studio when it first came out? Word on the street: it was intended to make things easier for creative types so they didn't have to be Linux Geeks. In my admittedly limited personal experience with Linux, having music apps bundled with Ubuntu was a good start, but it wasn't anywhere sufficient for me to try to give up my existing music-making tools (which included SONAR). It still would have required too much to teach myself what I already knew how to do. I see that Ubuntu Studio 23.10 was released in October. I note with interest that it includes OBS Studio version 29.1.3. If in addition to Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar, there were a Cakewalk Performer that (1) could exchange files with Next and Sonar, (2) would allow for multitrack recording of live streamed performances, and (3) would be geared towards live, realtime performance modalities, I could see that being useful to a number of different music creating communities.
  6. I have played with Sitala before and was going to test it on my current PC, but considering I never use it (I have other tools I can use), I will not be buying the new version. In fact, I didn't even know it became non-free. The older version used to work with CbB. Maybe someone else who has the current [i.e., paid] version should give it a try to see if it still works in CbB?
  7. Better double check the sheep! 😜
  8. Part 1: No, you cannot record MIDI notes by clicking on the image of the keyboard in the SI-String Section VSTi Window with your mouse. Part 2: You can record MIDI notes by clicking on the image of the keyboard in the Virtual Controller. No: <------ SI-String Section (plug-in) Yes: <------ Virtual Controller (built into Cakewalk)
  9. I don't think the system checks to see if you are repeating yourself
  10. To anyone thinking about replying to the OP or my reply here, please be advised that several hours later, the OP posted the same question.
  11. Oh. I thought I replied to this a few hours ago. 😞
  12. Pressing the keys on the UI's keyboard with a mouse does not generate midi note data. Same thing with SI-Drums and the others. See for example: You can use the built-in virtual controller.
  13. Do you mean SONAR (as in SONAR 3 . . . 8.5, X1 . . . X3, SPlat [SONAR Platinum]) or Cakewalk by Bandlab? Or are you looking to request participation as a beta tester of Cakewalk Sonar? https://www.cakewalk.com/sonar/
  14. How do you keep it from installing Magix Low Latency Drivers? I tried over the span of several years and never stumbled onto the solution. Each time they totally messed up my audio. Thx.
  15. I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!!! But if you are tempted to worry, you could read this (MS UWP Documentation) or this (MS UWP Documentation on MIDI) . JMO: Choose your battles--life's too short to try to figure out what MS has done. Or as the legendary telephone repair man said back in the 60s or 70s, "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it." 😛
  16. In my experience MME Midi Driver Mode works better for "legacy" MIDI gear. One of my basic diagnostic suggestions when someone says their MIDI gear which worked perfectly for years suddenly doesn't work is to check the Midi Driver Mode. Sometimes the issue is that the mode was switched to UWP. To change it back if that's the issue, any loaded projects need to closed (at least the last time I looked it did). Mostly, it's nothing to worry about as @OutrageProductions says, but sometimes it is helpful to know what that setting does. Someone (at least one person) explained or summarized the differences between the older mode (MME) and the newer one (UWP). It might have been msmcleod. If I find any explanations / summaries, I will add them here.** UPDATE: See Noel's article linked to by @OutrageProductions below. (Thanks for digging out that article!!!) **UPDATE: Sorry; couldn't any. If interested (not recommended unless you have an issue with MIDI devices suddenly not working) is to search the forum for UWP. Don't look up MME because that is also an Audio Driver Mode!
  17. Thanks for raising this issue and for all the contributions. I picked up SuperLooper a few years ago, but found it didn't meet my needs. It has had some changes since then, and this discussion is useful and has helped me to put it on my list of things to retry.
  18. Good news! I mean that Bome meets your needs, not that Cakewalk sysex is dead to you. 😉 Someday I might use my P2500 again as a sound module. Over the past few years I have been testing the use of the 4 x 4 knob array as a generic midi controller as part of a new live performance workflow for some specific soft synths. Sometimes as a quick and easy to use drummer. Before taking apart miles of MIDI cables, I had all my BPM modules using the P2500 as a Master MIDI Clock source. Having the clock on Port B served as a handy mnemonic: B is for Beats. 🙂 Great to hear from someone who is also still using theirs!
