  1. Excellent modus operandi to avoid potential confusion and to maintain workflow consistency. Except for a few tests, I use that advice. However, for tonight's test I made sure to put in some Workspace comments in the description as a reminder that the new tweak is an exception--"Shift+F changed to New | File" and "Keyboard Shortcuts Saved." Without that I'd probably forget and have some WTF moments.
  2. I don't use too many short-cut keys/key combos (just a number of the basic global defaults) and almost never use custom key bindings. But I might someday. I do remember testing key bindings when I was exploring how Workspaces function and how I >>might<< take advantage of them. I seem to recall that custom key bindings do get stored (and then restored) if that option is selected under Workspace Management. So, I am wondering (1) if my recollection is accurate wrt custom key bindings and Workspaces, (2) if a special Workspace could be used to safely store a dated backup of key bindings, and (3) if possible, are there any drawbacks to doing that? Thanks for any insights into this. NEW: By the way, I just tested assigning Global Shift+F from the default (resize and spread out tracks). I bound it it to File | New. After I rebooted Cakewalk, the new assignment held. Then I unbound that assignment and it successfully reverted to the default (without having to reboot Cakewalk. ) Not sure this helps, but as long as I tested it, I thought I'd mention it. WAIT A SEC: Then testing the Shift+F Re-assignment and saving that in a Workspace, Cakewalk reverted to the default Shift+F behavior, not the reassignment which had just worked. I will double check after dinner. UPDATE: I suspect in the previous reassignment test (immediately above) I did something wrong or out of proper sequence. So I redid the Workspace I used and the reassignment has worked consistently. This does not rule out the possibility that there is an inconsistent issue with reassignments. Just wanted to add that in the last round of reassignment tests, I flipped back and forth between some of my custom Workspaces and some of the factory Workspaces. That confirmed that if a Workspace previously saved key bindings (and therefore restores them), if you use Workspaces, that might account for why a custom binding might disappear. NOTE: I did not do any tests to see what affect the "Apply Workspace on Project Load" option has.
  3. One of my successful replacement tests was to a TTS-1 (in addition to a few others). Update: I Inserted Loom, then replaced it with Xpand!2, and then TTS-1. Worked for me.
  4. Thanks for the update. So far I tested a few simple things several different times successfully: Track Pane Right click > Replace Synth. Menu > Insert Soft Synth.
  5. They play this song quite frequently in one of the east coast chain supermarkets I go to. In a sense the supermarket is an alternate reality that celebrates a wonderful pastime--eating food! And I only go shopping when other customers don't bark and bite. Hmmmm. Maybe they play the song so customers get the subconscious message to be peaceful? In any case, this is a very enjoyable cover! Thanks for sharing.
  6. Band on the Run - nahhhhh 😉 BONUS Interview:
  7. Thanks for mentioning this. Even though I am familiar with P.F. Sloan's contribution to early rock and roll, I also googled the song since the music of The Grass Roots was a part of my adolescence. I was surprised to learn (1) the song was originally an Italian song done by a group of British musicians who made it big in Italy who later did an English cover of the Grass Roots cover, (2) the "Shaa-laa-la-la-la-la . . . " line was a cover of an even older Drifters tune, I Count the Tears (penned by the legendary Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman) [covered by Rosanne Cash] , and (3) in the 1980s there was even a a disco cover of the original Italian version by The Rokes (among other covers). Warning: Some people might find the "Naa-naa-na-na-na-na late at night . . . ." / "Shaa-laa-la-la-la-la-la Piangi Con Me . . . ." / "Live for Today" line a bit of an ear worm.
  8. Thanks for the reply to my question and for the edits after I read the first version.
  9. Forgive me. It seems like this is going around in circles and I am getting dizzy. So, I am trying to understand this. It seems to me that you want MIDI data from multiple MIDI Channels coming from different MIDI Tracks merged in such a way as to play a single instance of a Multi-Timbral software synth on a single Instrument track. Is that what your request is for?
  10. Yup!!! Think of all the brand new, never thought of genres, sub-genres, sub-sub-genres, genre-morphs, etc. you can make!! Future Country Booty Sauce? 😜
  11. Just listened to/watched Movement 1. There's so much in there to love!!!! Thanks for sharing. (I will save Movements 2 and 3 for another time.)
  12. Did you try inserting it as an Audio FX on an Audio Track by right clicking in the FX Bin and looking in the IK Multimedia > Folder list?
  13. Sometimes patch editors/librarians export patch names as text files (or as an *.ins file, if the developer included that feature). Sometimes hardware manufacturers have a sysex command to send patch names.
  14. Seems to me a good deal for those of us who already own this, too. Two sound banks for less than the price of one!!
  15. Do the inconsistencies within Cakewalk disappear or remain if you use split tracks instead of instrument tracks?
  16. I just spot checked a page and while it does list Cakewalk on the right-hand side as an available format, selecting that format says "No products were found matching your selection." However, selecting "Cakewalk Dimension PC" from the Format dropdown in the middle of the page does allow the product to be added to the Cart. [Testing done using the E-Mu Proteus Pack.]
  17. For the record, I was not encouraging theft of intellectual property. And so far as I know, he (TS/DSF) owns the rights to absolutely and authoritatively sell the sounds/samples/presets and to convert them for sale to formats that didn't previously exist. However, I never heard that he had the rights to either sell or revise the Proteus X/Emulator X software (though I have thought of asking). In fact, as the owner of many bought and paid for legitimate E-Mu sample disks [originals], the presence of bootleg *.iso CDs of the E-Mu sample disks on archive.org greatly reduces (or eliminates) my ability legally to sell original [production run] copies. Any lawyers amongst the user base here that want to do some pro bono work on my behalf against archive.org? I am aware that over the years profiteers have attempted to sell bootleg copies of the CDs, but those very quickly were taken down. Again, just to be clear, in my post above to Bruno de Souza Lino, I was not encouraging the theft of intellectual property. Apologies if it seemed that way.
  18. There are tons of E-Mu website captures at archive.org. If you know of any direct links to pages that actually lead to files that were captured and are downloadable, you can save someone tons of time looking through dead-end links by being more specific. Oh. I see. It looks like someone uploaded a "cracked" version as an iso file.
  19. I have had a couple of issues with multiple [duplicate] midi devices from the same manufacturer cause problems and some work with no conflicts. I have not had issues (that I know of) where one manufacturer's device [driver] caused issues with another manufacturer's device. I have used some software [virtual] midi ports as well but never noticed a conflict unless I did something wrong. I have problem solved by looking at device manager, device properties, etc. and sometimes completely removing a device/driver and reinstalling one at a time with a PC power reboot to give Windows the chance to make a removed/added/updated device to settle in before adding another instance. Even so, with one manufacturer, I could only get 3 2x2 usb interfaces working at the same time. Its been a while since I problem solved midi device issues, but I seem to recall that the properties information for each instance of each device was useful. In my experience just with the gear I use personally it really depends. I don't have the gear you have, but maybe other users have experiences with them.
  20. My understanding is that (1) it has nothing to do with the amount of memory our PCs have and (2) software that gives us that dialog is just reporting a message from our Microsoft OS. I know we "can't fight city hall," but maybe if enough of us ask MS politely, they will change that.
  21. In my experience, the "not enough memory available" most often comes from software trying to access a midi port/device already being used by another piece of software. This has been mentioned many times in the Cakewalk Forum. I know--I have mentioned it myself (as have others). Let me see if I can find some links. Better yet, just search the forum for "not enough memory" [with the quotation marks].
  22. Watching the demo reminded me of Time Has Come Today's use of delay echo (Chambers Brothers). Starting 2/3 of the way down:
  23. Patchmix DSP works? Which drivers are you using? Also, which versions of the PCI Cards are you using? My 1820/1820m version of the main card used to work under Windows 10 with a 1212m daughter board, but after a Win 10 Update a couple of years ago, Patchmix DSP no longer worked. (Might have been one of the 18xx or 19xx updates.) I tried the hacks in the massive KVR thread without success. I would love to have it working again!!! So, any details that might help would be appreciated.
  24. Bandlab Packs used to have MIDI files, too. Let me know if you find where they are these days.
