  1. Another gem from the pen of yet another underappreciated poet, Shel Silverstein. Optional Listening: Frank Zappa, Bobby Brown. (Not posted due to controversial and potentially offensive lyrics. Listen at your own risk, but be forewarned: he lampoons lots of stuff that couldn't be lampooned today. "I tell you people, I was not ready when I . . . by the name of Freddie." etc.)
  2. Are they two separate things or did the addition of automation (not just in Cakewalk) mess up how CCs used to work?
  3. "underrated" and "overrated" are click-bait terms. "__________ reacts to _________" is also a click-bait phrase. And they work!!!!!!! JMO: The name of the game is to get as many clicks as possible. Clicks translate into moolah in miniscule amounts that when amassed in humongous numbers might amount to something worthwhile for the content creator. "Don't blame me; the producer made me do it!!!!"
  4. I have used LFOs from Voltage Modular to modulate soft synths hosted in CbB. So I appreciate this newest MFX. Thanks!
  5. I don't think viewers need to guess about what Mike is saying; he has come right out and said it in his recent publicly available (YouTube) videos. Based on his workflow needs, he prefers Studio One. My guess is that if either of the new products meets his objections he would probably do a "pleased to see it" video. No guesses if he will be doing any "I'm sorry to say" videos if the new products disappoint him. As for exporting from Cakewalk, I've only used it a few times, so I would defer to others in this thread who have commented based on their use of the Export Feature. Several years ago, I tested for my own potential needs the improvements in the Cakewalk <==> Bandlab integration. I have many musical ideas that I have started over the years using SONAR/Cakewalk, and over the past few years I have thought about making them available to others to use as building blocks for possible collaborations. So if I follow through on this, my personal "Exit Strategy" might make use of one of the new products in addition to CbB. As I wrote in another thread (maybe a few threads), my favorite feature is Workspaces and I know how to do what I want with them in Cakewalk. Since Bandlab is not abandoning Workspaces, I have no plans to switch to another DAW. Within the past 5-8 years I have tried a couple of others, but have found that I lose time and efficiency over what I already know how to do. If there is a free version of Studio One with a counterpart to Workspaces and if Mike does does a tutorial on how to use it, I will certainly be interested in watching it.
  6. This is surprising. What happens if the track records on omni mode with each controller on a different MIDI channel--one for the B-3X upper and one for the B-3X lower? Update: It works for me. Controller 1 sending on MIDI Channel 1. Controller 2 sending on MIDI Channel 2. Hammond B-3X Upper set to receive MIDI Channel 1. Hammond B-3X Lower set to receive MIDI Channel 2. CbB Midi Input [ I ] set to All Inputs (One Organ Track). CbB recorded MIDI Data from both Inputs (verified via Event View). CbB played MIDI Data on both channels (verified via playback).
  7. I already have it, but I see the current price is $199 at APD, $99 base price (if you have $100 in your wallet). Is it possible the $99 price was from the Anniversary sale which has ended?
  8. Isn't $299 the usual 50% off sale for newcomers (those without any Arturia V instruments, after which it goes down in $50 increments based on how many you own)?
  9. LOL. I knew that. I'd like to blame the typo on an automatic spell checker, but it was me on autopilot since I was doing too many things. Thanks for spotting the typo.
  10. Last Night I Had A Dream - Rocking Bluesy Cover of a Randy Newman tune. (I like both renditions!)
  11. SMPTE/MIDI time code synchronization To use Cakewalk as the master MTC generator To configure Cakewalk to sync to SMPTE/MTC The way I read the documentation, Cakewalk does not generate SMPTE time code (nor has it ever so far as I can remember). I never tried using an external device (generator) to record SMPTE to an audio track in Cakewalk.
  12. Now that it has been announced that there will be one more CbB update before CbB is retired / discontinued, a number of users have been reporting new bugs and some older issues that have long contributed to user confusion. If there has been an official or semi-official call for concerns, issues, bugs, requests, ettc. for the final update, I missed it. However, I would like to add to the list an older issue with regard to remote control / MIDI Learn, particularly with the Inspector-based Arpeggiator (documented and confirmed several years ago). Thanks.
  13. Not that you mention it, IIRC I did have a pre-windows interface that could stripe SMPTE, but I think there was an error in the firmware or somewhere that made it start with a huge number so a large offset was needed. Anyone remember the CMS-444z? I think I got it bundled from CMS [Computer Music Supply] with Cakewalk for MS-DOS.
  14. (1) I don't know because I have only used midi time code, never SMPTE. (2) You mentioned doing several Google searches. Is it safe to assume you couldn't find out how to use Cakewalk and SMPTE together through the Cakewalk Reference Guide or Online Documentation? (Sorry, because you only mention having done Google searches, this has to be asked.) https://legacy.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Synchronizing.09.html
  15. Freeze Track: "Bounces the audio in the track to a new audio clip or clips, applies any effects, and disables the FX Rack." "Freeze" is a metaphorical reference to preserving or "solidifying" something. In this, case audio + effects are "solidified." That is to say, they are changed [fused together] from a "liquid" or flexible state into a preserved / solid / frozen state. Hope this break down of the explanation from the manual helps someone.
  16. I like the tune. It is a very relatable expression of guarded optimism. As for those who seem to have had trouble with the clarity of the lyrics in the mix, I don't doubt what others are saying, but thought it might be useful to you to share my experience. I usually have difficulty making out, attending to, and understanding lyrics due to a need to spend extra mental processing time to figure out what the words are. But contrary to what others wrote, I had no trouble with the lyrics on either the first or second listen. Over the past several years I have had increasing tinnitus and the last time I checked I had almost no hearing of external sounds above 2K-3K. Perhaps that's why the lyrics were perfectly audible and understandable to me, not lost in the mix at all. Again, not doubting others, but maybe my experience will help you to make they lyrics more intelligible to others (other than just providing the text). Thanks for sharing the song.
  17. This is the best price I can remember, too. I have also used VM in the FX bin as an FX Rack for CbB. Works for me. I can't test Nucleus either. Usually when resellers have VM bundles like this on sale there's a sale going on at Cherry Audio.** The JRRShop deal is better than $33 at CA. For those who might not know, Cherry Audio has changed to a NFR policy. So if you buy this and you don't like it from everything I've read, you will not be able to sell it (or transfer it) to anyone else (such as your heirs). For that reason, JMO: people might want to get a demo of a module or two first and if you like it, buy the bundle while on sale at the third party reseller that gives you the best perks. **From what I can see, there isn't a general sale going on at CA/VM.
  18. Results: [ S ] and [ M ] buttons on both track and console work as expected. Simple Test # 1: Set up Proteus 2500 sound module [always in multitimbral mode (up to 32 midi channels)]. Record super simple 8 bar patterns (C01A = drums, C02A = bass, C03A = piano chords) one at a time. Tested Solo and Mute buttons. ADDENDUM: Since I never paid much attention to greyed out tracks before, I looked at this. There are different levels of grey. Selected track grey is different than soloed and muted greys. With all, some, and no tracks selected, [ M ] and [ S ] lightened relevant tracks appropriately. tested on both track and console. Note: Simple Test # 1 only has 3 midi tracks; each is forced to a specific midi channel through the [ C ] widget.
  19. When this happened with APD (MODO DRUM, IIRC), I seem to recall some users reporting APD was kind enough to issue a refund. I am not sure if IK honored the sale as a qualifying event for anyone. JMO: It is unfortunate that loyal consumers need to find the snags in any company's marketing and promotion schemes. I don't think there was any malintent on anyone's part (IK, resellers, or consumers). Minimally it does, however, point to a flaw in communication. By that I mean specifically, that if a manufacturer will be running a promotion, (1) they should get the word out to resellers early enough for the resellers to update their websites, (2) they should send out timely reminders to resellers, and (3) they should take the initiative to check the sites of resellers. If all this was done (as it might have), the process needs to be fine tuned. That being said, I think this SNAFU was covered more quickly. So maybe next time no consumers will be affected. In addition, it might be a good idea for IK to give a free promotion entry to the first 25 loyal customers who alert them to SNAFUs like this and bonus jam points in the amount of the purchase to the first 100 loyal customers before the websites were changed.
  20. This was my thought, too, esp. since I am more into synths/sound content than FX/Processing Tools. I passed on the TS4 MAX upgrade and even the ST4 MAX upgrade in hopes they would have a GB to fill in with new sound content. I really don't need duplicate / triplicate / quadruplicate licenses for products I have already licensed.
