Did you ever update CbB? If so, the reactivation was transparent. The difference now is that we are awaiting the final CbB update pending the release of Cakewalk Next and Cakewalk Sonar. I have decided to just use Menu Bar > Help > Refresh Activation periodically. As I understand it others are opting to be less proactive and are waiting for the reminder (such as the one you got). PS: Sometimes I forget to be proactive, so when someone raises the issue (such as you did), I reactivate. So, thanks for the reminder--I hadn't refreshed on my own in a while. UPDATE: Evidently CbB no longer has a built-in mechanism to refresh activation from the Menu Bar > Help Menu. See for more information about activating CbB.

Many times a new forum member will show up wanting to solve a problem. It could be a new SONAR/Cakewalk user or just a user who never joined the forum before. From the barrages of posts I've seen over the past several months, it looks like they are coming from one source. JMO: Personally, I would rather report 10-25 bogus posts if it means that people with legitimate urgent questions won't have to jump through hoops. I just wish there could be a one-click reporting option that makes all posts from the malicious poster disappear until a moderator can take a look at all posts from that account.

I Googled this code. A number of websites say something similar to the above. I know there is a post that addresses an issue related to "necessary redistributable packages . . . . " Have you tried the suggestions in that thread?

IMPORTANT: Do not assume that things that look like spam are benign. It used to be that this type of phishing activity had malicious links for malevolent purposes. Often they pretend to be marketing for legitimate products or services in hopes of getting people to click on malevolent links. In the past I would hover over links to see where they went. I would not click on them and I recommend that no one ever click on any links in "spam" posts (or e-mails). As a courtesy, I used to report embedded links (as text) to support my reports that they were malicious posts. For example:

PPS: I feel bad for the moderators who have to voluntarily do work that shouldn't happen in the first place. Most (if not all) of the bogus posts I have seen over the past several months have been boiler plates. Two or three should be enough to stop them from being posted and the account put on moderation status.

PS: Add a button for "Stop posting anything from this account until approved by a moderator!"

I do report them, but (1) the report button is now hidden and many other users might not know where it has been moved to, (2) it is not spam (unwanted legitimate marketing), (3) the posts are a sign that somewhere there is someone either knowingly or unknowingly running malicious code, and JMO (4a) there should be a category for this ("malevolent post," "potential domain or site attack," or something like that) and (4b) considering that this is probably the # 1 usage of the report button, it should be the default. If I am the first one to report 10-25 posts, make my job easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I assume the camera people are seriously into rubber. ?

I found two paths to control website access to MIDI devices in Chrome at: . . . [more] Settings Privacy & Security Site Settings (1) View Permissions Across Sites (permissions - Ask, Allow, Block, Reset, etc.) (2) Additional Permissions (allow sites to ask, don't allow sites to ask) (1) For example, I looked up emu.tools since I had given it permission after it asked me (Allow? Block?). I had permissions set to Ask (default). I didn't have to but I choose to reset all permissions for that emu.tools. NOTE: The default is for MIDI Devices is "Ask. BOTTOM LINE: Unless you changed MIDI Devices for any sites that use MIDI Devices to Allow, all you need to do close Chrome and restart it. (2) There is a search bar in Settings. When I typed MIDI two locations were found. In addition to Site Settings > Vew Permissisons . . . there is another access point at Site Settings > Additional Permissions. There, I found a setting for MIDI Device to set the default--either "Sites can ask to connect to devices" or "Don't allow sites to connect to MIDI devices." Hope this helps. My chrome is up-to-date as well and there is no "Advanced Settings" Either????

If I weren't happy with Cherry Audio's Elka X, for $20. I'd be tempted to pick up IK's Synth X sample-based clone. Its the only one of the 35 Syntronik / Syntronik 2 synths I don't have. Hmmmm. Just looked at IK's Synth X. It sounds nice, but the panel doesn't show an arpeggiator/sequencer. Hmm. It would "only" be $14 with jam points. Does anyone have a link to the Synth X manual? Hmmmm. Preset / Wave Set List doesn't list arps or sequences.

Yup, yup, and, yup. Maybe Lester will clarify. Evidently Chrome just asks Allow or Block ? and once allowed it stays that way for that site. ? (No allow once, Allow always . . . .)

See the table under "Browser compatibility" here. Notice that Chrome implements "requestMIDIAccess." Notice the other tables as well. The issue of websites gaining access to PC Connected MIDI devices without the express permission of PC owners was a big one as I recall. (Don't ask me to look for the historical docs on the issue.) Bottom line: I really doubt that Chrome or any other Browsers that allow sites to use MIDI devices on their webpages would have backslid on this.

WTF?????? What was the original question? The one about "not enough memory" for a midi device? For me that was always, "something else is using the device." This ^^^. In 100% of the cases with my own PC and those of others I have helped, the solution has been to stop the "something else." While the software using the MIDI device (or port), could be a web browser, I can't recall that being the case for more than 2% of the cases. There was a time in the infancy of what became Web MIDI that some browsers wouldn't ask if it was OK for a site to use / take control of a MIDI device / port, but due to potential security issues (among others) it became important for browsers to ask first as the default. I cannot imagine that Chrome has backslid on that. Of course, if a user gives blanket permission ( as in [ X ] Never Ask as opposed to allowing only specific sites), it could be an issue. If the issue is "Where in Chrome is the setting to say [ X ] Always Ask (or [ X } Never Allow, if indeed browsers now default to allow sites to take over MIDI devices / ports, that's one question. If the issue is "something else" is using the MIDI device / port, I would look for some software that is using the device / port. It could be (for example) a utility such as MIDI-Ox, a standalone soft synth, another DAW or utility, a device / hardware / interface configuration utility, etc. If the issue is the computer locking up / freezing, that is yet another issue. (See suggestions above.) What problem are you trying to solve?

I couldn't find in the Reference Guide where its says that F5 cycles through the Smart tools. I thought the tool was smart in the sense that it did different things based on context and the cursor switched as a clue to what it was about to do. The Reference guide says: On the other hand other tools are listed as cycling through different functions based on the key press (F8, F9, F10). To me they are not smart tools because we have to cycle through the functions manually. Its almost like you are wanting the Smart Tool to loose its "smartness" so you can cycle through the options with an F-Key.

Everyone who does "custom" / "odd" meters knows this, so this if for the benefit of people who stumble onto this thread and are intrigued enough to experiment. The metronome can get messy, so as an alternative we can turn off the metronome and use a percussion track. Even when doing something as ordinary as 6/8 I have found the percussion track helpful to set it up as 6/8 in 2 or 6/8 in 3 or somewhere in between. Also works for "odd" meters. Yes, I know everyone knows this, but for the benefit of people who only do 3/4 and 4/4 and always use the metronome, maybe this tidbit will be helpful.

This reminds me, for any instrument if you look at the Device GUI (such as the Meldaway Grand Piano), you can see whole bunches of tweakable parameters that are accessible without having the Edit Button that's in the full version. That might be a good way for people to decide if its worth $39.

MSF LE does not have access to all the editable features you find with the Edit Button, but from what I remember, there are some things you can tweak with the Global settings.

I bought MSF LE from Plugin Boutique (2021: £40.80). At the time they had no mechanism for purchasing the upgrade through them, but since third party purchases need to be registered with Melda Production, I was able to get the upgrade pricing directly from Melda. From what I have seen, $39 for LE is an excellent price. UPDATE: See this page. It says "Can be upgraded to: MSoundFactory." Note: I just looked up my invoice. I upgraded during one of the 1/2 price sales and received a loyalty credit for LE on top of the 50% price.
