  1. Thanks for the details. I downloaded a few of them (just to see what the deal was) and put then them into Voltage Modular as a quick host to take a look/listen. They worked and while the LABs UI is super minimal (so far as I saw), a bunch of parameters show up as controllable though VM's I/O Plug-in Host. The idea of doing something minimal with Glass's Piano appeals to me!!
  2. I am new to this series. Once I downloaded and installed the free app, I only saw "FREE" in the artwork on nine of the 47 instruments. Are all 47 free? Glass's Piano didn't say "Free" but clearly the video from two months ago says "Free." Hmmmm.

  4. Interesting. When I say "I do not use screensets," I mean that I do not use the screensets module to save, restore, switch, etc. as part of my workflow. But I think I understand what you are saying here. Even if I don't do anything like that as part of my workflow, correct me if I am wrong: there is still a screenset (can we say "current screenset?") that is being managed by Cakewalk as you have described. Assuming I understand that correctly, what happens with Workspaces that exclude screenset functionality? My understanding is that the module and shortcuts are not available when using such workspaces, but when a project is saved after the GUI has been changed, does the "current screenset" get saved? Just wondering out loud here based on the the above. I suppose I could do some case testing to figure it out, but if you know it would save some time trying to answer the question. Depending on what Cakewalk does, I am now thinking there might be some advantages to my workflows to include screenset functionality. Thanks for the insights!
  5. If it turns out to be an error message given by Cakewalk, it would be helpful to have a screen shot of the error message dialog box. However, from what you wrote, I see nothing you have said to indicate its a Cakewalk issue.
  6. Yeah--its nice that we can look at our attachments chronologically and trash them as needed (or rather as no-longer-needed! ? ) to make space . As a habit, I generally (1) save the soon-to-be-deleted attachment to my PC and (2) edit the text to reflect the deleted image, so other users know it was deleted intentionally [e.g., out of date image removed; feature changed, or something like that].
  7. Yup--sounds like a Windows system notification. If you had a Windows update recently, maybe the setting that tells Windows not to use any system notifications (audio) got reset to what Microsoft thinks should be the default for everyone? They do that kind of thing, as I am sure you know.
  8. Thursday I plugged in a mic to try MTuner. I am not a singer/vocalist, so my pitches were all over the place. MTuner was very clear about that!!! ? I put further exploration on the back burner. The recent discussion reminded me of something I tried a while ago--trying to reproduce with my mouth frequency-stable sinusoidal waves in a software oscilloscope. So now I am wondering what can be done in real time with vocals to make it easier for the pitch to midi conversion to be as accurate as possible with MTuner, possibly isolating the fundamental / filtering overtones (like I did I by shaping my mouth and vocal cavity but with plug-ins), etc. Just throwing this out there because others seem to be interested as am I. If you start a new thread, I could move my comments, but I think the discussion is a logical continuation of Milton's post--from (1) the mechanics of how to set up the routing to get Audio -> MTuner -> midi -> synth working to (2a) how to process the audio going into MTuner and (2b) how to make use of MTuner's settings and possibly (3) how to make use of other MPlugins in the chain to get desired converted midi effects.
  9. NOTE: I am adding some new information related to my previous post about the TS3.5 MAX upgrade from TS 2 MAX available from JRRShop for $99. I am neither encouraging others to purchase this nor discouraging others from purchasing it. It may or may not meet others' needs and there might very well be a much better coming down the road. But, after looking around on the IKM Site some more, I decided to take a chance based on my personal interest in wanting to create some quasi 4-layer presets in Syntronik 2. I have just started poking around and wanted to share that: My Products now includes Syntronik 2 in addition to Syntronik 2 CS and Syntronik 2 SE which I had previously. I now have SYN2 Instruments that I didn't have before.** I also have tons of stuff that I previously had (yes, more licenses than I will never use, unless I go through the trouble of transferring ones that are transferable). I also have more gear that I will probably never use. Again, I am not making any judgments about what others might want to do in terms of this purchasing this "Deal" or wating. In light of my previous comments on the uncertainty about what Syntronik 2 upgrade I would get, I wanted to share these results. As usual, most of what I had previously now has renewed download expiration dates (180 days). **IMPORTANT: Since the TS 3.5 MAX upgrade does not include Syntronik 2 MAX (?yet?), the new SYN2 Instruments unique to Syntronik 2 MAX were not included. As for whether or not they will be included in TS 4 MAX (or later), your guess is probably better than mine. ?
  10. I played with this several months ago when exploring audio to MIDI conversion using MTuner. I don't remember all of the details but MTuner has some settings to fine tune sensitivity. Personally, I would encourage others to play around and share results, strategies, etc. I have been wanting to explore more myself. I recall seeing @Starship Krupa mentioning this.
  11. While the comparison chart at IKM does indeed list Syntronik 2, the details at JRR mention Syntronik Deluxe (not Syntronik 2). I seem to recall that for a limited time with the TS 3.5 purchase , the upgrade to Syntronik 2 was free (correct me if my memory is wrong). So, as an owner of multiple Syntronik licenses (including multiple Syntronik Deluxe licenses plus Syntronik 2 CS, Syntronik 2 SE, Syntronik 2 V-80, and Syntronik 2 J-60), it is unclear that the TS3.5 upgrade would add anything to what I already have. I have played with the new Syntronik 2 edit panel available for the Generation 2 Presets I have and really like it, especially the ability to layer up to four wavesets. Based on my experience with GB25, I am unwilling to just assume that going to TS 3.5 via JRR will add additional Generation 2 Presets. For all I know, the Syntronik 2 listed at IK only adds Generation 1 presets and maybe a selection of Generation 2 presets. I am hoping that sooner or later IKM (1) will make all Syntronik Deluxe presets Generation 2 (or later), (2) will add more editing panels, (3) will add the ability to add user wavesets, and (4) will add the ability to use wavesets from different instruments in a single instrument.   12. I picked up VIP 3.1 as part of an AIR/AKAI bundle in 2020. So, I just went looking for map file repositories. Didn't find any, but found some VIP tutorial articles here. [UPDATE (2022-11-07)]: It looks like inmusicbrands changed their website and the link no longer works.] Update wrt user maps: I looked at some of the WayBackMachine Site Grabs for the community and found two captures which had user supplied download links for contributed maps. I think as a rule the WBM doesn't archive those (e.g., dropbox, pcloud, etc. and even files on manufacturer sites). None for the 3 or 4 links I tried went anywhere. (I tested some site grabs from 2015 and 2019/2020.)
  13. (1) That's 98% vague. I know you know how to open executables, but you provided no information on how far you got, assuming you opened the program, ran it, navigated to where your cakewalk project files are, and opened one of them. Are you saying that ProjectScope showed you the tracks in the file, but not the names of the instruments you used? Are you saying when you double clicked on a *.cwp file, Cakewalk didn't boot and didn't try to open it? (2) Did you put the names of the instruments in the tracks in when made the projects? Did you use Sonar/Cakewalk's "Notes" to document your project? Just so you know, even though I downloaded ProjectScope previously, I downloaded it again to verify that the download still works. Where I used the name of an instrument in the track name, its there. Where I wrote Notes, they are there. As for Plug-Ins, so far as I can see from the *.cwp files I tested with ProjectScope, that panel only includes FX plug-ins, not soft synths. If you used *.ins files and were looking for a program that would open up the correct *.ins file and dereference / look up the bank / patch assigned in the track widgets, I don't see ProjectScope as having that ability. Not sure if that's what you mean by "it doesn't do anything, just sits there open."

In terms of hardware synths, some have CCs hard coded to specific synth engine parameters as msmcleod noted while other hardware synths have an open architecture allowing many/most CCs to be assigned to any available parameter. Usually the manufacturer's documentation spelled all this out. Some software synths also spell this out, too. In addition, with hardware different controllers (knobs, buttons, sliders, pedals, etc.) can be mapped to different CCs. Some software synths allow users to map incoming controllers/parameters to different functions/parameters; some are "hard coded." Some manufacturers have been good about making MIDI implementation easily available; some have been meticulous in the details they provide; some have even made it easy to understand. While the basic MIDI Implementation sheet is a good starting point, the additional documentation can be invaluable. Mapping CCs to parameters can be done in different places along the data route, including (as msmcleod noted) within a DAW. Other software along the data route can also be used.

  17. While I do have some Workspaces that have a full-sized Console on Monitor 2, my "Narrow Strip Test" was done with Views on a single monitor. I will try tweaking one of my Workspaces with a full-sized Console on Monitor 2 to see if that fails to get saved and restored properly. 2022-04-11 Update: Took the "Narrow Strip Test" Workspace; tweaked it to have a full-size Multi-Dock with the Console on Monitor 2; verified narrow strips (track, bus, output) work consistently with several different projects. I call it "Narrow Strip - D on Mon 2" (D = Dock). Duplicated the lens [copied & renamed via Windows], then converted all the strips to wide and saved the Workspace. I call it "Narrow [W] Strip - D on Mon 2." Did lots of loading of files and switching of Workspaces. So far results have been consistent. Testing was done on a PC with a duo Core processor. Not sure if more cores would introduce glitches in the restoring of Workspaces properly. I have the option to "Apply Workspace on Project Load" checked. Not sure that would make a difference. Since people have their own work flows, I am not sure this is worth more time. Since each PC is different and since there are so many variant workflows, it might be impossible to isolate specific factors that would account for our different experiences.
  18. On 3/7/2022 I created a test Workspace I called "Narrow Strip Test." Immediately afterward, I tested it with various recent and older *.cwp files. I was going to mention this, but I forgot. So I just tested it again. We all have difference experiences, but in my experience, when I load projects I do get narrow strips. Also, when I add new tracks (instrument, soft synths, audio, or MIDI) or busses, they get added in as narrow strips. Not doubting your experiences; just saying I have gotten different results. Not sure why, but it might be worth trying to figure out why. I am very much aware that sometimes things work on my PC that don't seem to work on others' PCs. But I am curious to know if I will get the same results (all narrow tracks) with project files others have done on their PCs. If they show up as all narrow strips on my PC, I can (1) post my Narrow Strip Test Workspace if you want to try it and/or (2) try to reconstruct what I did to create the Workspace. I tend to test many things to add to my personal knowledge base.

I'd also want full vst3s with all parameters properly named and exposed so they can be manipulated via external controls, including program change and bank switching plus the dynamic voice allocation as found in VIP. Oh yeah, I'd also want them to be 100% compatible with all the expansion packs. ? Almost forgot: At least 4 audio outs, preferably more.
  20. Yes. I recognized that. I was trying to call attention to an overly complicated solution in hopes that the forces around here that make the decisions about what to spend their time improving would see the value in a streamlined method like you proposed. I guess it wasn't clear that I was endorsing your idea. Sorry if that wasn't clear from my post. I will try to fix it. Just to be clear, last June I felt it was way too time consuming to be able to find specific data types in the event list, but I recognized at the time that there was little chance that the Event List would be given any attention.
  21. I remember using a filter in conjunction with the Event List. For example, let's say you use controllers in a range from 21 to 26 (or 71 to 73) you could find them more easily. Using this method will leave black rectangular cells in the left-hand column for the desired controllers. At the time of that post I specifically remember thinking it would be nice to have this functionality built into the Event List management system. But I didn't suggest it because (1) most Cakewalk users seem to be more interested in manipulating audio data, not midi data and (2) the devs seem to have plenty of more important stuff to do. However, there seems to be an increased interest in midi these days. I would love to see a redesigned edit filter tied in with the Event List if its possible and if its a now deemed to be a reasonable use of development time. Perhaps targeted filter-by-type dialogs or fly-out menus, radio dials, check boxes, etc. based on each specific data type?

When I got the e-mail about the one-year anniversary sale on Cherry Audio's "Eight Voice," I search by that name and not seeing the deal announced, made a post which included links to some videos. I then learned that Larry had indeed announced it. (See his forum link posted above.) For my needs and uses, I agree with the positive assessments posted above. It is my daily "go-to" soft synth to test that my PC's audio is setup properly. Noodling with it at the start of every day warms me up. It might not meet everyone's needs, so I would encourage others considering spending from $15.95 to $19 to take a look at some of the resources linked here:
  23. Thanks for the DJ Swivel video. I actually had picked it up as part of a "StayCreative Free Plugin Bundle (Ozone Elements & DJ Swivel Spread)" a year ago and finally installed it last month. I played with it a little, but it is nice to hear from DJ Swivel explaining it!! I already discovered how the dial can make audio sound mono varying shades of wide, so its nice to learn from his tips.
  24. I am also biased wrt the PSP Ultimate Bundle Larry mentions. I generally only use a handful of the PSP VM modules, but the Ultimate Bundle (link to pdf) is a very handy collection of 37 VM modules and is at an amazing price. FYI (for those unfamiliar with Voltage Modular): PSP's VM modules can be set up in an instance of VM within Cakewalk (kind of like a Voltage Modular FX Rack).
