  1. If your hardware or software synth responds to what's called "expression" in the MIDI specs, another option is CC11 (expression). PS: I don't have Kontakt, so I have no idea it respects CC11. If the soft synths you use have documentation, ideally that would have the information you need, because:
  2. CC1 is not velocity. While CC1 can be mapped to different parameters, traditionally it was used for modulation. CC = Continuous Control and unless a synth engine specifically disables a particular mapped parameter from having real time control, CCs control parameters in real time. If (1) you record CCs on a track with midi mote data and then (2) playback the track, (3) the sound generated from the midi data (hardware or soft synths) should respond according to the CCs on that midi channel.
  3. Its been a while since I did Bank Switching on a regular basis, but I seem to recall that the midi specs call for a two-byte program change command (0xCn 0xnn) following the Bank Switching CCs. So, I set up a hardware sound module and tested this with the help of a usb keyboard to record and playback Bank Switching LSBs and MSBs and Program Changes. That test confirmed my recollection. Not sure though if different hardware or soft synths would be behave differently. Unfamiliar as I am with the PRV, I switched to the PRV and drew in some Bank Switching CCs on top of my test recording. They seemed to be put into the Event List and also required Program Changes to take effect. I did not test with any soft synths. Since I don't use the PRV (except for testing things) but I am slowly moving in the direction of trying to make used of the PRV, I'd be interested in your results. UPDATE: Just inserted TTS-1. Seems to behave the same way. (Had to use the usb keyboard for CC0; couldn't figure out how to draw CC0 in.)
  4. Perhaps you missed the discussion of these as they were under construction?
  5. My current strategy: Looking at my bills (current and upcoming, including credit card charges not yet billed and anticipated housing costs) and checking account balance ?. Looking at my monthly income. ? ? Reminding myself how I made a very bad decision in October to join a popular marketing scheme discussed heavily in the forum instead of waiting until I could get far more with about the same amount of money. ? ? ? ? Deleting tons of e-mails that have proliferated since I started purchasing music stuff. ? Deleting tons of e-mails that have proliferated since I started signing up for so-called "free" plug-ins. ? ? Trying demos over the span of a few days ? instead of getting caught up in impulsive consumerism and asking myself if I need it or just want it Taking a new look/playing around with soft synths and other music tools I have in my inventory. ? ? ? ? With bundles, asking myself if this developer gives me substantially reduced prices for products I already purchased. ? ? ? Spending time to make a spreadsheet of possible purchasing options. ? Then, limiting impulsive purchases to a very small percentage of what I think I might ultimately spend. ? Any or all of these might or might not work for others, but I think its a good question to reflect on especially given all the hyper-commercialized marketing that seems to be all over the place. Caveat emptor!!!
  6. Fixed. Topic: getting the module bar to remember its layout JMO: Learning the possible options for customizing the Control Bar would be a good step before tackling Workspaces. I think it sensitizes users to the amazing flexibility Cakewalk offers. Starting with the Control Bar might be better than trying to understand Workspaces from the start.
  7. I never use the PRV (except to try things people post about). So I used your issue to try to learn more about the PRV. I see what you call the "glue tool" (upside down bottle/squared ball syringe). Speaking purely as a non-PRV user, it seems to me (as best as I can see a use for it) the draw tool's syringe mode in essence picks up characteristics of the note hovered and clicked (i.e., velocity and duration). That way notes with those characteristics can be placed elsewhere. And if I draw a note in the wrong place, right clicking with the draw tool erases it. No need to switch to the eraser tool Also, if I draw two notes of the same pitch and I want to convert that to one note that starts at the time of the first note but with the combined duration (instead of having two attacks), the draw tool's glue mode will do that. Again, as a non-PRV user, these three features of the draw tool seem useful. So, thanks for raising the question; I am another small step closer to using the PRV.
  8. You sound frustrated. Perhaps instead of venting with an insult you could ask for help?
  9. Right click on the collapsed Transport Module on the Control Bar. That will bring up the Control Bar and Module settings (selection, sizing, order, docking options, etc.) https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=ControlBar.01.html#
  10. Are you including my post in "all the wise cracks?"
  11. I have no experience with coolsoft vms. But I was curious enough to look it up. In the intro, it says: I did not download it to try as I sometimes do, so I cannot test it, but since it is implemented as a MIDI Out virtual device I am wondering if that's how you have it set up.
  12. Thanks for this detail. Very good to know the difference depending on where its done. Makes sense; I just never compared the two before.
  13. Nice explorations! I am a big fan of exploring the UI and then setting up ad hoc workflow customizations. I like that we can dock some of the views as either full height or partial height as well as either full width or partial width depending on which views we are using and the docking status of the views. You don't mention these full/partial height/width options, and I am not sure if you are planning to enumerate in your video all possible combinations like you tried to do with the insert soft synth/insert instrument methods. As was discussed in another thread, I think it would be overwhelming (esp. for those new to Cakewalk) to enumerate all of the possible combinations in the video. You might want to consider just mentioning that there are various options (maybe showing one or two as quick examples) and then put a link to a text-based document with static screen shots in the comments section (and just below the embedded video) that shows the logic behind having the options, a taxonomy of the options, and then examples.) Also, you might want to have someone proofread it for attitudinal bias--such as a statement that having options is a bad thing. I agree with your comments when you say having options can be confusing (esp. to those who are new to using Cakewalk), but to me that doesn't mean they should be removed. Rather, I would think/hope that teaching materials can show the basics and give a small taste of intermediate and advanced options.
  14. I have a lot of test themes that I haven't updated to conform with all the changes over the past year because I just use them as reference points for things I tried in the theme editor. (No need to spend time updating.) Sometimes I get UI anomalies based on a non-updated theme. I know its a long shot, but this might be from something similar.
  15. Suppose someone has multi-midi track songs that were done with hardware sound modules and she or he wanted to add some software instrument tracks to re-orchestrate it for soft synths in whole or in part. One option is to add hybrid instrument tracks, delete the midi tracks, and then point the original midi tracks to the instrument tracks with the soft synths. I think it would be more efficient to be able to just add soft synths and then point the midi tracks to the soft synths using the [O]utput track widget directly. Someone could even add a number of soft synths and test drive a specific midi track by simply changing the [O]utput.
  16. Ever since I first saw it, I have called it the insert instrument [or track] wizard in the forum. That's the term I have seen used for decades to describe a dialog system like that which leads users in a step-by-step manner to make choices which culminate in creating a group of settings. From what I have seen some groups have misinterpreted the word "wizard" as an anti-religious reference and evidently the term has been shunned by some people in some places. To me "wizard" fits "the new dialog." Apologies to anyone who might be offended, but I will continue to call it "the insert instrument wizard."
  17. I just checked 5 files (4 from November 2021 and 1 from Dec 2020); they all had different dates.
  18. Thanks! I seem to remember changing colors a while ago but more recently I couldn't find how I used to do it. Sounds like I probably did it before I started using CbB and the theme editor. Another old man memory issue mystery solved! ?
  19. Well, if suggestions for changes are in order, how about the ability to code the "interior lines" with I Ching patterns--different button interior patterns do different things!!! 64 different states per button!!!!! User definable states! ?
  20. I looked earlier today and saw the "interior lines" but didn't connect that with "hexagram." But then again, I was long familiar with the 3 lines that I discovered years later some people were calling a hamburger. To me it looks more like lines, but at least now I know what some people mean when they say "click on [or tap] the hamburger." I kinda like "I Ching" lines. Ch- ch- ch- CHANGES! (Plus it reminds me of my college GF of several years and her friends who introduced me to the I Ching.) Doesn't look like "double hamburgers" or even a Whopper(r). Anyhow, kudos for figuring out all those cells!
