  1. Sorry. I don't have any resources. I am a natural-born explorer and explored a whole bunch of the many facets that make up my PCs audio system (sound card, BIOS, Motherboard components, Windows' settings and features [including Device Manager, Sound, among others], external gear documentation, etc.). I don't think I ever had a single guide that covered everything, though I did look at all sorts of things online. Do you have technical documentation for your PC? your sound devices? For me, those have been helpful. Right clicking on the speaker icon to start exploring Windows' Sound might be helpful (Sound settings, Volume mixer, etc.) as would exploring Device Properties and Manage Sound Devices for your audio inputs and outputs. Maybe someone else knows of a handy-dandy guide.
  2. Wait a sec. Let me find my Melda invoices. ? I do remember trying to use a referral code a few months ago. It was during one of the sales--60%, IIRC. Not sure if I saved an image showing the reason I couldn't use it. 99% sure it was because I was not a first time purchaser, not that I had used a referral code before. IIRC, someone did mention being able to use a referral code after having some Melda plug-ins, but I vaguely recall it might have been the free fx bundle, not a paid purchase (or something like that). Maybe the rules were changed. NEW INFO: Checked my balance history under "referral/credits." Got +10 for signing up for the newsletter (July 2020); used that (-10) for a purchase (July 2021). No referral credits received or used.
  3. It sounds to me like your PC's Sound is not set up properly. OR If you are trying to record YT audio into a Cakewalk track, turn track echo off. OR Try giving some details about your setup so people trying to help have something to go on. My crystal ball hasn't worked in decades. Trying to help people who expect help but give no relevant details is painful!!!!!! BTW, if I were you, I'd turn of system sounds. But to me that's part of setting up a PC's sound properly.
  4. Record???? I thought it was a video!!!! (One that was played extensively on MTV for a while.) Seriously though, it makes sense if the song didn't get radio play on an audio-only medium of communication (radio stations)--competition and all like that!!! I mean, if I ran a radio station, why would I want to play a song that seemed to be saying radio is a dead medium, video is where its at?
  5. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought you can't upgrade to a larger bundle and get a first time purchaser discount if you already bought something to upgrade from. Classic "Use it or lose it!" In fact, I tried using a referral code, but couldn't because I had already bought something.
  6. Talking about the Tape Machines: maybe someone who has any of the Tape Machines can tell me if they have a feature I could make use of--the ability to play back from a playback head while recording (and re-recording) with the record head located before the playback head. I read the descriptions but didn't see this feature. Maybe its there and I missed it?
  7. Thanks for the explanation. It sounds like a project whose time has come. May it be personally rewarding for you and may you pick up many more supporters on the journey and with the results. BTW, I like the title!! (Makes me want to know more already!!)
  8. The OP wrote: I took this to mean sending and receiving a synth's/sound module's patch/preset bulk data / sets of parameters understood by the synth / sound module, not switching bank numbers and program numbers. Maybe I misunderstood and the OP meant, "Is it possible to send patch change commands to and receive them from my synth (an Ensoniq SQ-80)?" The reference to not having a good way "to archive patches on my computer" sounded similar to what I have done with many sound modules over the years: preserve patches and patch banks by sending them from my gear and storing in Cakewalk sysex banks in *.wrk/*.cwp files so I can send them to my modules. For example, the back up battery in one of my Casio VZ-8m modules died. So to restore my custom patches, I found the banks in my old Cakewalk files and sysexed it back to the VZ-8m. Apologies if the OP just meant bank/program switching.
  9. In all this time (that is, since the '60s), I never thought of how the amazing Beach Boys vocal sound grew out of doo-wop, but now that you mention it, it makes sense. I had a Beach Boys listening binge within the past year (lots of behind-the-scenes documentary videos among other), but the next time I will be listening with new ears. ? Yup!!! Listening to this now (just one of many he did):
  10. This has been a feature of Cakewalk that dates back to the days when it was a MIDI Sequencer. Are the MIDI In and MIDI Out connected to your PC (and Cakewalk) with some sort of MIDI interface? I took a very quick look at the SQ-80 manual and if does have a midi implementation section. Do you have experience with sending and receiving sysex data? Perhaps some of the following resources will help. https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=4&help=SYSX.01.html https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=4&help=SYSX.07.html http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/files/manuals/SQ80.pdf
  11. Check your e-mail for a link that has your S/N.
  12. Another rocker (and other genres) passes. Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen were an American country rock band founded in 1967. The group's founder was keyboardist / vocalist George Frayne IV (alias Commander Cody, born July 19, 1944, in Boise, Idaho; died September 26, 2021 in Saratoga Springs, New York).
  13. Doo-Wop reminds me of that legendary acapella group, The Persuasions. So I started listening to this:
  14. Nothing pedantic about using yyyy-mm-dd format; its purely pragmatic esp. in terms of date-sorting. On the other hand maybe pragmatism and pedantry have a high correlation.
  15. No. Sorry if I wasn't clear. After a Win 10 update a year ago (+ or -), the only thing that worked on the E-Mu PCI Card was the firewire port/driver. The ability to use audio via E-Mu's Patchmix DSP routing/mixing software was the first thing ruined by a Windows update. I could still use it for ADAT/Clock functions. Not sure but s/pdif clock might have also worked. Later on, another Win 10 update killed my ability to use the E-Mu's ADAT port for clock/sync. So, the only thing I use the E-Mu card for is to drive a firewire audio/midi interface/mixer (FW-1884). Knock on wood, Windows hasn't killed the firewire pass-through functionality (yet).
  16. Under Win 10 I found that the only thing that has worked on my E-Mu 1010 PCI Card was the firewire port. IIRC Win 10 version 1909 was either the last version that supported PatchMix DSP or it was the first one that killed it. There is a KVR thread that documents how to hack later updates, but I was unable to get it to work. Not sure there are hacks for Win 11--if you can find a Win 11 PC that can handle the E-Mu system. (Let me know if you find one.) BTW, I still have an E-Mu 1010/1820 Audio Dock system working on an XP SP3 PC. If your XP's mobo hasn't been fried by the power supply issue, perhaps you could find a no cost/low cost power supply and use the E-Mu Digital Audio System to feed audio to any new PC upgrade you might get. On the other hand, if you find a newer, reasonably priced audio/midi interface that comes close to the flexibility of the E-Mu's Patchmix DSP with comparable audio quality (esp. to the 1820M Dock), let me know.
  17. Anyone in the US who was around then must surely remember Pictures of Matchstick Men--it was a mega-hit over here. For decades I never heard of them again until I was playing "Whatever happened to . . . " [groups/artists I remember from back then] and stumbled onto some Status Quo concerts/videos on YouTube. I was amazed to learn they were still rocking all those decades later and definitely enjoyed what I heard in the videos. RIP
  18. Yeah--sometimes its a better use of time to move on. Glad to hear its working for you now.
  19. I tried it with an old midi project I was listening to yesterday. I got the same results: PC's delete reset the selected sections to unselected. Your alternative deletion method worked for me, too.
  20. I just tested my delete key by: recording an audio and a midi track selecting the clip in the midi track selecting the clip in the audio track selecting a section of notes in the staff view selecting a section of notes in the PRV My PC's delete key successfully deleted each of the selected areas one at a time. Evidently on my PC it worked for the four things I tried. Make that five: created a minimal sysex bank [F0 F7]. My PC's delete button brought up the "Delete sysx bank?" warning / challenge.
  21. I have a customized file that gives me peaceful, meditative sayings I get from a relative which work well in the blue/green toaster. Not sure they would be as tranquil in a hot red/orange toaster.
  22. Update from within Cakewalk was flawless!!! ?
  23. @jono grant Not sure if you were waiting for the non-Early Access release of 2021.09 to get the version of the VST list with the border, but its available now.
