Thanks jeff....i'm starting to teach myself how to get a handle on the SI Drums VST....the unpredictable time lag when playing/recording is a real mood killer, i'm using the Piano Roll view, existing tracks waveforms, my ears, whatever i can to get the percussion placed where i hear it in my head recorded....so far the results are spotty at best, detrimental to the song at worst and not worth my thinking and energy....quantizing doesn't work unless it's the same beat throughout the whole song and the stuff i write is not that way....but i'm trying....i know the right percussion will take the songs to a higher level ????

Thanks! ???? Thanks! ???? Thanks! ???? Thanks! I originally wanted the song to be acoustic guitar only but it seemed to need some separation or individualization of the sections....i was trying to get the acoustic guitars (there are two different ones, one panned full left, the other full right) combined harmonics to be the echo or reverb and they do to some extent but they are dry, not even EQ'ed except on one that needed a small increase in the high spectrum ????

great vx and chorus and yes, the whole song rocks along quite nicely....enjoyed it very much....probaby in the Top Ten of the all the songs i've heard here ????
-
music: great production, playing, arrangement, vx, tones and melodies, the drum segue around 2:48 was cool....nice touch ???? video: simple but effective....communicated clearly with no questions....would have liked a better ending, but that's just me....cheers!!!!

Hi Philip....good tune for sure, nice melodies, tempo and playing....the guitar recording, to my ears, is too muddy....i had the same problem on a song i did a few months ago and i had to redo it....as was said before Direct Injection of an acoustic guitar doesn't produce a generally accepted level of clarity or quality....i would remove or lessen the reverb and record the guitar on a mic and do an A/B comparison to see which one you prefer....heck, maybe a mix of the two of them might be the best!! regarding the drums i would mix them a bit lower and reduce the reverb on them as well....again, nice tune ????

Thanks John....yes, that's what i love about certain types of music....helps me to find a comfort zone ????
-
Thanks Tom....lots and lots of record, erase....record, erase....there were absolutely no first takes on the harp sections ????
-
Thanks man....i used a Shure PGA58 (not very expensive) to record the harp....i set the record level around -6dB to give it the best shot of avoiding hitting red....the harmonica sections are short so i recorded each section one at a time (there were absolutely no first takes, i recorded, erased, over and over until i got the take i thought was a keep)....i didn't use any limiting, just learned to adjust my playing from take to take....and Volume Automation was used all over the place to bring the levels to sound steady ????
-
Thanks Mark....i played the bass through a Scarlett Solo and sent to an Aux track to fatten it up....i didn't use any VST to augment....just a bit of Pro Channel EQ and Saturation Knob on both bass tracks....i need to experiment more with the bass sound, one of a multitude of things to learn more about lol!!!! ????

Thanks Wookiee....yes, i am....been playing for about a month, watched a lot of YouTube videos on how, i really find Liam Ward's the best....if it's ok here's a link to his YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/Learntheharmonica cheers!!!! ????

Thanks Dave ????

Thanks Nigel ????

thanks Tom....yes, Carson City area....if i had a dollar for every time i've played along with a Neil Young song i'd have a nice size stack of $$$$ lol!!!!....yeah, the rhythm in my songs has a lot of rubato which is why i don't have drums in any of them yet....back porch feel it is, relatively quick production compared to the last two i did....i think have two guitars on almost every guitar part, one panned L and one R, each to a different percentage....except the bass, elecrtric piano and harmonica....cheers!!!! ????

nice groove and melodies....put those two things together right and you've got a good thing going....enjoyed it ????
-
pretty cool....interesting combinations of notes to create the ominous atmosphere....sounds like the Locrian mode or, if that's not what he used, it's what Locrian should sound like!! lol!!!!....sounds good as is but could also be a part of a larger composition or as a template to add other instrumentation to ????
-
nicely realized....all instruments sound very well balanced and compliment each other well....nice vocal....reminds me of the great "Life in a Northern Town" by Dream Academy....well done ????
-
great, as usual....the sequencer parts fit perfectly....had to give it a like even at this stage of creation, i don't think it really needs much else as you have a lot of good stuff mixed really, really well at this stage....but of course, carry on!!!! ????
-
really nice....great choice of instruments, they really compliment each other without stepping on each others frequency toes....the individual instruments mode changes are really nice....enjoyed very much ????
-
enjoyable....short, concise, to the point....well done ????
