Thanks man....i used a Shure PGA58 (not very expensive) to record the harp....i set the record level around -6dB to give it the best shot of avoiding hitting red....the harmonica sections are short so i recorded each section one at a time (there were absolutely no first takes, i recorded, erased, over and over until i got the take i thought was a keep)....i didn't use any limiting, just learned to adjust my playing from take to take....and Volume Automation was used all over the place to bring the levels to sound steady ????

Thanks Mark....i played the bass through a Scarlett Solo and sent to an Aux track to fatten it up....i didn't use any VST to augment....just a bit of Pro Channel EQ and Saturation Knob on both bass tracks....i need to experiment more with the bass sound, one of a multitude of things to learn more about lol!!!! ????

thanks Tom....yes, Carson City area....if i had a dollar for every time i've played along with a Neil Young song i'd have a nice size stack of $$$$ lol!!!!....yeah, the rhythm in my songs has a lot of rubato which is why i don't have drums in any of them yet....back porch feel it is, relatively quick production compared to the last two i did....i think have two guitars on almost every guitar part, one panned L and one R, each to a different percentage....except the bass, elecrtric piano and harmonica....cheers!!!! ????

pretty cool....interesting combinations of notes to create the ominous atmosphere....sounds like the Locrian mode or, if that's not what he used, it's what Locrian should sound like!! lol!!!!....sounds good as is but could also be a part of a larger composition or as a template to add other instrumentation to ????

great, as usual....the sequencer parts fit perfectly....had to give it a like even at this stage of creation, i don't think it really needs much else as you have a lot of good stuff mixed really, really well at this stage....but of course, carry on!!!! ????

i can really hear Peter Gabriel adding vocals to this....the trance music compliments the controlled frenzy of the guitar sustain....i think it needs more parts/music to take it to the next level but a nice foundation to build on ????

not bad at all....you have the virtual drums sounding good and in perfect time (which is something i'm still trying to master)....the fragmentation of the piece is something i'm not a big fan of as i prefer cohesion and groove but that's just my personal taste....would really like to hear you put together something else like this but with a steady groove and getting the sections to flow forward easily....good work!! ????

thanks tom....the harmonica was something i wanted to try to see if it would fit....after awhile i figurered out where it would fit right....the squeaking strings i really tried hard to keep them as quiet as possible but the song has some quick changes and this is the best i could come up with....the strings are D'Addario extra light that are labeled "bright"....i will try the "Flat Tops" and "Half Rounds" soon....i thought a good equalizer would be able to take away the squeaks as the CbB one won't....i never thought of a de-eser but i'll give it a try, thanks!!!!....i did use some volume automation to hide some of the isolated squeaks where i could but some places they were all happening within seconds and it would not work....thanks again!!!! ????

thanks and glad you liked it....no 12 string on the song, i do have an acoustic 6 string on both left and right sides panned completely 100% left and 100% right....yeah, without Mike's tutorials none of my stuff would sound half as good as it does as i would still be looking through the manual for instructions ????
