bitflipper
That looks identical to the piano I grew up with. I even took it out to a gig once, but quickly gave up on the idea when I realized that moving a piano throws it out of tune. But I loved that piano because it had amazingly fast action. If you can score it for a couple hundred bucks, absolutely go for it. But if they want a thousand dollars, though, get him a digital piano with the most important feature for a learner: a headphone jack. 3
57Gregy
You can often find pianos for free by people who are tired of moving them, don't play and inherited it, or abandoned in old houses. I started playing on my grandmother's Baldwin Hamilton upright grand. My current roommate has a Baldwin Acrosonic spinet. Wurlitzer is known for quality products, mostly, even in the lower price range. It looks good in the picture. If the price is acceptable and it plays well, I don't think you can do better.
