If this is part of Soundforge FX suite your problem may be down to it being tied to being a Soundforge exclusive plugin. Meaning you can only use it in Soundforge.

I didn't expect a fresh install of CW to have a plug in I couldn't use.

The Cakewalk installer did not put "PITCH SHIFT " on your system.

The DAW does not restrict itself to what is installed with it.

There is an entire industry build around the notion of added features to DAWs via plug-ins.

Sometimes a plug-in installed by one program does not work in another even though it may appear in the available plug-in list.

For what it's worth, this also gets installed with Magix Vegas Pro and it's unstable in that app too. Not surprised it's crashed Cakewalk on you.

Yep. another acquisition from Sony.

IIRC, Vegas includes a lot of the Sound Forge suite which Sony acquired from Sonic  Factory.
