  1. Yeah, that makes logical sense to me too - good idea!
  2. Considering no changes have been made to SONAR since 2017, it's unlikely to be SONAR itself that's the issue, more than likely another application has overwritten a library that SONAR was expecting, or Windows has updated and caused something to break. I'd start with checking your Redistributables - make sure they're all up to date, as per this thread: Obviously make sure you've rebooted before you install anything too, just in case any part of a program is still open in memory and blocks part of the install.

    Final update on CbB

There was a recent thread where one of the devs mentioned it's more or less baked but they're waiting for another team to do some server changes before they're able to release it. I'd suggest "soon." I don't think anyone has mentioned what's going on with the license for it as yet, by the sounds of it the details are still being settled.
  4. The secret is to have your Lanes open and use the Smart Tool, and where you place your cursor will change the tool to get you what you saw in the animation: https://legacy.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Arranging.57.html#1832832 (Note: On some browsers the images are broken on that page, so you'll want to go to chrome://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Flegacy.cakewalk.com on Google Chrome and go down to Allow Insecure Content)
  5. Yeah, that's valid. That's a good reason to use different tracks, so you have more control over the balance of them both. If you're worried about the room tone adding up, you can always put in a Gain Envelope on the room tone while the narration is happening and manually duck it that way, or if it's on separate tracks, you can use a compressor with the sidechain keyed to the narration so it does it automatically, but that's a hell of a lot of work. It's probably easier just doing the envelopes. Alternatively, there's also nothing wrong with just splicing in the room tone between your narration as well if it's consistent. If it's not, you'll hear obvious edits.
  6. Huh... I dunno, the printout of it looks fine on my machine here...
  7. That supports my guess that something blocked part of the install, and would have been my next suggestion. The reason I asked about your environment was that this could happen again, so it's good to know what caused the issue. Glad you got it sorted!
  8. You're overthinking it a little bit. OK, first you should record 10 or 20 seconds of just the background noise of your environment. That way if you have to duplicate it (crossfading between each duplication) then it'll sound seamless. Put that onto either its own track or a track lane. The advantage of putting it on a track lane is if you want to do any processing on that track later, you do it to both your narration and the background noise all at once. Then, slice up your narration as you see fit, putting fades on either side of the parts you want to keep to ensure there's no clicks and pops and it fades in seamlessly each time. Then put that on a second lane of a track. So your room tone would be on lane 1, narration would be lane 2. That's basically it. If you have several takes of narration, edit that up first and get it how you like before sweetening it with the room tone lane. And the process the track to taste.
  9. Agree. This has been suggested as well.
  10. Yep, just suggested that to the team earlier today myself. There's definitely some word filters set up already because some spam threads are pre-flagged and hidden, but there's definitely more that can be added. We can't do this as moderators though, it's all up to the admin.
  11. My guess is that something blocked the install somehow and some component didn't get registered properly. Some computer specs would help - what version of Windows, what version of Cakewalk, etc. What other software is installed? Was there any kind of antivirus or anti-malware running? (Even Windows Defender) Let's eliminate some variables first so we can zero in on a plan.
  12. Yeah, very weird. In all of the machines I've installed CbB/SONAR, etc. on, I've never seen that. Can you tell us a bit about your computer? What OS? Is it fully patched? I assume this is the 2022.11 CbB installer, yeah?
  13. Hmm... I've never seen that one before. First of all, reboot the system. Does that fix it? If not, try updating your Windows Redistributables, as per the info here: Let us know how you go!
  14. Yeah, it sounds like it pushes stuff past the resolution break-point.
  15. This looks like it's all browser window size related as to where it chooses to offer the resolution breakpoints. In most mobile displays you get this: Tablet: Desktop: So each view would need to have its own CSS worked out for it, aside from global colours, fonts, etc. Clearly there's clipping and padding issues on mobile, and tablet also isn't showing the needed controls. I've reported a lot of this stuff myself, as well as refining the colour palette on certain items to cater for poorly calibrated monitors (such as the pagination numbers in threads. On my calibrated monitors they look fine, but ones that have a high gamma point make the page numbers almost invisible). This wasn't like that on the previous forum layout, so I'd very much doubt that this is by design. I personally have no idea what makes that sidebar turn up either, to be honest, which I've asked about. So I'd say most of the stuff that people are seeing that's "wrong" or broken has already been reported. If there's anything in particular that's not working like it should be, it might be an idea to mention it here and see if it's common to all of us, so we can compile a list to pass off to the devs. I'd almost guarantee even the stuff I've mentioned is on the TBD list, but it's never a bad thing to have more eyes on something to weed out any problems!
  16. Yeah, this is still broken and it's been reported. What you should be able to do is switch to Desktop Mode (look for the 3 dots at the top of the screen) and then pinch to zoom in to see the stuff you want to click. Not ideal, but it'll get you over the line. Hopefully the devs get onto this soon. Things like messages and notifications are also missing in the mobile view too.
  17. And, importantly, did you follow the advice in this thread and update your graphics drivers?
  18. If you go into Views > Meter/Key, what do you see? It's possible that there was a time signature baked into your default template that has 4/4 already in there (worth checking that in a new project made from that template). Possibly something to do with Ripple Edit being on and things shifted along?
  19. Yep, that's been reported. I'm sure that's already on the TBD list, it's a pretty big issue.
  20. Yeah, I'm trying to work out the logic behind where this turns up myself! I can't see anything on the user side to toggle it, so it must be hard-coded into the forum config (at least the in-flux config) at the moment.
  21. Actually I want to give a shout out to all of the other mods! I hopped on board a couple of weeks back when we got absolutely belted so I could help clean up (being in a different time zone to most/all of the other mods is a handy thing!) and it was pretty bad. But then I had a look through the past reports and clean-up history and man... there was so much stuff we never saw as users! It was all nuked before it became a problem, and it was substantial. So LOTS of respect from this new guy! But yes, the first thing I said when I hopped on board is "what tools are on the backend to sort this out?" and there definitely was a lot of good stuff in place - it'd be many magnitudes worse if this stuff wasn't there - but I'm hoping the updated framework that's just being rolled out will help even more. I had a good look over the forum provider's docs and this new version looks pretty great. Also, big cheers to you guys for reporting this stuff too! We don't always see stuff, so the more of us keeping an eye on anyone crapping in our backyard, the better!
  22. 2048 is a pretty big buffer size too. It seems counterintuitive but some plugins actually perform worse with large buffer sizes like that.
  23. This shouldn't be giving you a dropout during export at all. What does your export dialogue window look like? Especially, what does Bounce Buffer Size (ms) look like? I usually have mine on Playback Size but you might have better luck if you change that to a higher value. Failing that, is there a tick in 64-bit Engine? Take it out to test. Can you do a Render in Real-time?
  24. They've been doing their best to give us a hammering today too, actually, but luckily we have people in a lot of different timezones now (there was sometimes a gap here and there where they'd slip through) and we've managed to keep on top of it lately. The forum upgrade seems like it's definitely going to be helpful with getting rid of these pests a little easier!
