Was this mentioned? Check your track "Input" button to make sure the Yamaha is selected with (channel 1 or omni) instead of the CW virtual controller. My Yamaha PSR540 also Keeps the MIDI interface light lit continuously. Must be a Yamaha thing. Since I don't use it as a controller, I leave that cable disconnected.

New user impressions (and a bit of musical archaeology)
sjoens replied to Mark Peters's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
In fact.... .. ....... . the file formats are so similar (if not exactly) you can change "wrk" file extentions to "cwp" & vice versa with little to no incident. Kinda like "cwres" (cakewalk resource) files are really "ini" files. You can open a "wrk" file in CbB, but you can only save it as a "cwp" file. ?- 21 replies

What you call "playlist" is actually "Track View." The Playlist is an entirely different window in the "Save As" menu.

New user impressions (and a bit of musical archaeology)
sjoens replied to Mark Peters's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Similar story here with a 1992 Ensoniq SQ'2 & Home Studio 9. When you think about it, Cakewalk still does the same MIDI stuff it originally did. .cwp files are very similar to the old .wrk files and have always been compatible. Old .bun files not always so much. Definitaly move your old ESQ files to modern media as old media can fail over time. I put mine on CDs before the original floppies & the disk reader no longer worked.- 21 replies

Right. And thanks Promidi for your explanations. I actual understand all that, I'm just dreaming about how I'd like it to be. MIDI started in the early '80s and evolved thru the '90s. MIDI 2 in 2017/2020. As I understand it, MIDI 2 will only work with devices supporting it, not our current devices.

Yes. Turn the grid at PRV's top right corner OFF and it follows the main Snap routine. Nice having both tho.

It might be. In 20 years I've never seen this, so I'd also be interested in what the Event List has to say.

There's times when you need one note to bend 1 semitone and another to bend 2, or one up and one down, etc. I don't really understand Articulation Tracks and may never - but - It might be cool if Take Lanes on a single MIDI track could be used to handle this. Or a 3rd lane specific to them.
-
^ This. My hardware synth/sequencer has built in option of bending the last note of a chord but cant be done like that in CbB's PRV. And not aware of any virtual instruments set up that way. Maybe the new articulation track can do it??

Two BandLab Assistant in the control panel > Programs and features.

Two BandLab Assistant in the control panel > Programs and features.
sjoens replied to HIBI's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
Tried to update 6.2.0 with Assistant only for it to keep vanishing w/o doing anything. Please explain how to update. Appears after closing it, it's still hanging in memory and needs a forced quit in Task Manager. Wonder if/when this will be fixed? -

Most of a .wrk or .cwp file info is coded so unless you can decode it there's not a lot of info to glean from it.

Or at least add a right-click menu to copy to clipboard. Same for all text type views.

NON-Segmented meter colors are changeable but use the same colors for both MIDI & Audio tracks. Preferences>Customization>Audio Meters is misleading as it affects both MIDI & Audio meters. (Edited...)

MIDI Program Change message bug (SOLVED)
sjoens replied to John Darrow's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
S7 = Sonar 7. If both S7 & CbB projects are set up exactly the same using the same .mid file with different results, wouldn't one conclude the 2 programs are handing things differently?- 39 replies

Bug: MIDI clip does not display trailing Sustain Pedal UP
sjoens replied to Colin Nicholls's topic in Feedback Loop
Confirmed here. It will do it at the beginning of the clip also if pedal down is the first action while recording. You can drag the ends out to see the cc data but not even bouncing will fix the clip visually. FWIW, SPlat does the same thing. -
+1 for non segmented meters. Segmented meters (png's) can be repainted different colors already. I use blue for MIDI & orange or green for audio.

MIDI Program Change message bug (SOLVED)
sjoens replied to John Darrow's topic in Cakewalk by BandLab
I'd check the main ins file to see if your gear is listed & correct. Then set the Bank & Patch & MIDI channel to the sound you want. In my case I had to create my own ins file and only have issues when a track or project goes funky. Also, try opening the S7 project in CbB, save as new, then close & reopen.- 39 replies

Same with other Cakewalk FXs like MIDI FX suite. They're a bit easier to dress up than Sonitus group but all need reedited after each CbB update. Which makes it a hassle to keep up with. Dimension, Rapture, and the SI suite were made to modify & all files are in a Resources folder. CWRES files even allow you to rearrange GUI layout. The only way to share these types is to upload the actual plugin which may or may not infringe on the EULA.

This may be the case as I don't have near the issues with other programs or DAWs. I suspect the more exclusive and "professional" your set up is the fewer issues you'll have. Mine is a budget system used for everything I do so I expect trouble now and then.

It should work if it's connected to a sound source/instrument.

A lot of us experience crashes. We either don't tell anyone or get bashed over the head for being stupid when we do. ? Either way, I've never gone a day over the last 20 years using Sonar/Cakewalk on various platforms when it doesn't crash for some unknown reason. I've spent entire days trying to figure out why only to have it working fine again on it's own. It needs no reason. Daily crashes. Monthly blue screens. May be 2 reason why the professional world hasn't taken it seriously. I don't blame it totally because bad memory, USB, and other external factors play a hand. Beyond crashing, it loves to hang in memory and not open because I have a standalone VSTi already open. Closing the VSTi and reopening CbB/Sonar does not work. The entire system has to be shut down and rebooted first. ?? I still prefer it over other DAWs!
