  1. "VirtualMIDISynth is a software MIDI synthesizer implemented as a Windows multimedia user driver, accessible as a standard MIDI Out device." [emphasis added] I downloaded it and do not see VirtualMIDISynth.dll. I am not sure it is a VST Instrument. If it is, I cannot make Cakewalk see it as a plug-in. AHA!!! It shows up as a midi output: I have usb keyboard -> VirtualMIDISynth #1. I have sound but it is 1.5 seconds after I press a note. I reduced the latency here (Additional output buffer = 1). It is better, but the sound is still late. My ASIO Panel is set to 2 msec. Maybe it would be better under a different audio driver model. After I switched audio driver models, I had no sound--even after I went back to ASIO. I got sound back by selecting my EM8810 Card for the output. After that, I switched to <default> and had sound. MK249 . . . is my usb keyboard (MIDI Input). 1VrtlMDS . . . is the VirtualMIDISynth (MIDI Output). Also, look at VirtualMIDISynth's settings, including the mixer. I hope this helps.
  2. Thanks for the info here. Quite timely, in fact. I had stumbled onto the audio -> midi conversion a month or so ago and have been wondering if Cakewalk used Melodyne for this. Oddly enough, this thread starts addressing this today. Good to know I hadn't been imagining it.
  3. Do you have an audio track that corresponds to the midi track and if so, does the audio volume show there? This might not be your issue, but in many cases I find it helpful to have both the midi and audio track sliders showing.
  4. a thread of possible interest to some; relates to failed fx chains in CbB for people that don't have the referenced plug-ins:
  5. Update: Guitar Rig 4 does not trigger the Missing Plug-in placeholder dialog box. Thank's to scook's very handy VST Inventory program, I located Guitar Rig 4 and 5 (3 was already scanned and registered) and copied the dlls to an existing folder in a scan path. That was followed by a manual plug-in scan (w/o a reset). FX chains referencing Guitar Rig 4 worked. I still need to find my activation codes and do proper installations though, to get them out of demo mode (if I want that). The Boost 11 was already in a scan path. However, after running one fx chain and getting the same error as posted above, I ran a different chain and to my surprise Boost 11 showed up (not the Locate VST dialog box). After that, I inserted the first chain I had tried and that too worked. I remain impressed by the work that went into developing the pre-created FX chains, though most of them are not ones I anticipate using. Based on my recollection of creating chains, having ready-made chains is wonderful--just drag and drop (preferably after the previous chain has stopped sounding!) test, and move on to another one.
  6. Before this week, I had never used pre-created audio fx chains; years ago I tested a few that I created but never integrated them into my workflow. I have started to explore them more--when inserted into the ProChannel and when used in track fx bins--so I can better understand and make effective and efficient use of them. So far I have tried a number of fx chains in via ProChannel and have been very impressed in (1) what they do and (2) how easy it was to use them. Also, it was great to see that feedback is given for chains that referenced (1) non-existing (on my PC and/or in my scan path) and (2) problematic plug-ins.
  7. I know I imported some banks of something into NI software. This would have been around the time of Kontakt Player 4 or 5. It was on an XP PC and they were either E-Mu banks or Cakewalk banks. Not sure I still have the HDD with those on my XP PC. It would probably be quicker for you to do a conversion than for me to find out if I still have them. UPDATE: The backup drive that had been on my XP PC is now on my Win 10 PC and it looks like the files I successfully converted to Kontakt *.nki files were from the E-Mu Protozoa CD. I seem to remember that once I figure out how to do one set, the rest were easy. If I also converted Cakewalk/rgc sound libraries, I haven't found them.
  8. As has been pointed out, it varies from soft synth to soft synth. Just some footnotes regarding program changes in VST3s. I was doing some research based on your question(s) and found these which might interest you: (1) Discussion board at Steinberg from February lamenting "No Program Changes in VST3." (2) from the 2019.09 "Features Overview" here (emphasis added--"for plug-ins that expose . . . program changes"): Hope this helps.
  9. How about customizable naming of categories of markers and selectable (on/off) "marker lanes" --structure/parts, flaws, editing notes, section names, priorities, etc.? Maybe in selectable widths? Choice of marker size?
  10. Thanks for sharing the solution. No need to delete as at some point or another who hasn't forgotten to look to see if something isn't plugged in? The good news is, this incident will probably serve as a reminder to check to see if something's unplugged for a year or two or more!!
  11. I think I know what you mean. As for me, I would prefer the ability to float customizable channel strips each individually, but I think you mean something like one of these, but (1) as a Control Bar module and maybe (2a) horizontal, or perhaps (2b) just with numbers, or (3) maybe with options to include the slider, the scale, etc. If its too cumbersome to have a lot of options for a modules, perhaps as a Control Bar Module it should have options: auto, small, medium, large, collapsed.
  12. Kudos to whoever fixed the issue with inserted/linked images/screenshots!!! It is nice to be able to take screenshots, resize them, and share them in the community and that the forum will enlarge images if they are too small to read.
  13. I can relate--when I first saw that BandLab had taken over Cakewalk in early 2018), the only thing I saw was "BandLab"--the web/browser based software. It wasn't until a few months ago when someone stepped me through installing a newer version of BandLab Assistant and then downloading "Cakewalk by BandLab." You want Cakewalk by Bandlab so you can open up TTS/Cakewalk/SONAR projects, though the preview feature that allows importing and exporting Cakewalk projects and a BandLab Library looks promising for potential collaborations and other uses.
