    Windows 11

The real issue is that Windows 10 is the most secure Windows so far. But that it's still a long way from it being a really secure OS (compared to Mac OS or Linux). I think the real battle will be to see where Microsoft eventually sets the bar for security. There may be no way around the TPM requirement in the end, as that clearly has improved security as a priority. I think in the end it come down to which CPU's can support that feature. I also agree with some pundits that suggest Microsoft needs to allow advanced users to opt out of the whole "secure OS" plan, and upgrade at their own risk. But that scenario leaves MS on the hook for potential security risks in the future. It will remain to be seen how much MS will relax. It almost looks like they have drawn a line in the sand that says, too bad, stay with Windows 10 if you don't measure up.
  2. New VST2 plugins are still possible, if the developer already has a VST2 dev license from Steinberg. However it is impossible for a new developer to acquire a VST2 developer license.
  3. A VST3 Shell is also what Waves uses for all of it's plugins. That behavior is normal. CbB has to check them at at every scan, otherwise there is no way to know what plugins may have changed in the Shell since the last scan. You can completely disable CbB plugin scans at startup if you wish. If the plugins are working fine in CbB, then there is no problem.
  4. Need what? If you are referring to Electromagnetik, the current intro price is $99.99, and you can get up to a 30% discount on that with Jam Points.

    Windows 11

Windows 10 will continue to be supported until 2025. So there's still plenty of time for things to be sorted out. Both for MS and the end user. Microsoft has just been releasing an early copy of Windows 11 to the insider program, in order to assess what will really work and what won't. I'd wait until the dust settles a bit in a couple more years before planning for any hardware or BIOS changes... The requirements will probably be a bit more finalized by then in any case. My 2 cents... ?
  6. FYI, feature requests are best placed here, where they can be monitored by staff... https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/forum/8-feedback-loop/
  7. Enjoyed the show! The Electromagnetik sounds good. Particularly the Yamaha CP70B electric grand.
  8. Would you still buy a Gibson after they shut down Cakewalk? Shame! ?
  9. I was a fan of many artists that recorded with the 'Famous E' back in the day. So that makes it worthwhile in my book. Plus it sounds fantastic! I will add that the IK SampleTank 4 Max has some excellent e-pianos. If you have that, do check them out! You may find all that you need there, so no worries about history!
  10. I crashed the standalone Unify 1.5 several times yesterday. Don't recall the exact details of what I did, but I think there are still a few small application bugs to be worked out in Unify itself. Today I just tried it in CbB, and it was fine with some Arturia, Cherry Audio, Tone 2, and u-he libraries, until I tried to switch to some AAS Chromaphone presets. Then it hung up not responding, and I had to close Cakewalk.
  11. I was following this thread a couple of years ago. Looks like somebody just revived it! ?
  12. I disagree, and always allow my PC to go to sleep (S3, with hibernate disabled) after 30 minutes, and nothing bad ever happens here. However, my PC will not sleep if an application has sent a powercfg request to windows to keep awake, for example: Which pretty much rules out sleeping while my DAW, or any other application (not including Windows audio) that uses my Focusrite USB Audio driver is still open...
  13. The SynthMaster plugin .dll does NOT get put in the SynthMaster folder. It will be somewhere on your hard drive after the installation. If you didn't notice where the installer placed the plugin, do this: Search File Explorer for "SynthMaster2.dll", and either add the folder where you locate the plugin file to the VST scan path in CbB, or move the plugin file to whatever folder the rest of your VST2 plugins are located in.
  14. Got plenty to keep me busy for a while now... ?
  15. Nah, that's absolutely the last one. For now, anyways... ? But I did get 3 libraries for the price of one!!! $537.00 > $174.71. First timer here. Did the group buy with two orders: 1. First filled out a few OTS surveys for Orange Slices. Then bought 2 Evolution guitars for 60% off, plus the slices from the surveys. 2. Got some more slices added from purchase #1. Bought a 3rd library for another 60% off, plus more slices.
  16. Better yet, you get a couple of MIDI demo files that you can play!!! ?
  17. It looks like all of the "Evolution" products priced at retail $179 (and the Famous E) are Player and NKS ready. The other OTS libraries priced for less seem to all require FULL Kontakt.
  18. The Famous E is Kontakt Player compatible. As well as a couple of Evolution guitars that I picked up. Check the OT website for details and full disclosure. I haven't seen any yet from Orange Tree that require FULL Kontakt.
  19. It's got that real 70's E Piano sound that I fondly recall from many 70's songs. Yes, amazing indeed!!! None of that DX7 FM cheese that took over pop music in the 80's... ?
  20. Alright. I finally caved in on the Famous E when I realized I could get it for $56 with the group buy 60% off, plus some Orange Slices from my previous purchase.
  21. I think that the Cherry Audio 8-voice sounds great! Disclaimer: I do not have the other synths to compare it with.
  22. Yep, that one has been on the feature request list for years. Probably the most popular one ... so maybe eventually. ?
  23. Interesting! I didn't even know that was a thing! I would assume that if you are using a NI Komplete keyboard, then you are all set! I only have the KK plugin, so my keyboards do not auto map. But even when using generic MIDI learn, if you use the global learn settings in KV331, the synth will retain your EZ Knob mapping for all presets. So you only need to set knobs 1-8 up once. After that the function of each knob will vary on each patch based on the KV331 preset design, but knob 1 will still be knob 1, 2 is 2, and so on...
  24. I am not against BandLab releasing all of the legacy VST content. But the fact that they have not released a single one yet, in all this time, tells me there must be a reason. I won't speculate on why, as nobody really knows. I do have all of them, except for Rapture Pro, which I only had the demo of when Cakewalk was shut down. At the time the original Cakewalk synths were first released, they were a star attraction and a good incentive to buy the latest version of Sonar to acquire them as bundled content. Cakewalk was in on the first wave of commercial soft synth development, and really stepped it up when they acquired RGC Audio. It was like the dawn of the internet. Things started off slow, personal computers were often not up to the task of running soft synths and samplers, and then eventually the market exploded! Just my opinion here, but that is now ancient history, and the beloved old Cakewalk synths surely could use some love, as far as updates go. I still love them for nostalgic reasons, and they do still sound good. But I rarely ever open them anymore. I am much happier with the more modern synths available today. The market is actually flooded with great synths being sold for near giveaway prices, or even given away for free. I imagine that only the top tier ($$$) is actually making any money for their publishers.
  25. Well if Mr Rhodes himself said that the actual Famous E was the best one he had ever heard, then it must be a very special electric piano... ?
