  1. But if you at least glanced at that SOS article from from 2005, you would have realized that a basic SI Bass virtual bass is no substitute for Steinberg VB, and all the bells and whistles Steinberg included with that (retail in 2005 for £179.99/USD $246). It looks like you would at least need a ToonTrack EZBass, or a ujam Virtual Bassist to come close to replacing it.
  2. Larry, hurry home. Quick! ?
  3. Ample Sound makes some great instruments, and they have been generous with free upgrades to the product that I bought! I originally discovered them via their free acoustic guitar and p-bass, which both sound great. So I ended up buying one of their basses on sale, and have since received a version upgrade, and an additional "fingered" sample library for what was originally a picked only bass instrument. At no additional upgrade charge! The only catch is that you need to learn their native UI and workflow, as this is not a Kontakt library. But they do offer their take on a bass riffer and tab modules for the bass. Don't have any guitars other than the free acoustic, and that one includes a strummer module.
  4. Darn. I already have that one! It's a keeper! $79.99 full retail. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/st3artdecopiano/?pkey=st3sounds-artdecopiano
  5. All of the AAS sound packs come with the free AAS Player. However, the packs will not work in the Session instruments. You will need the full AAS versions in order to import and fully utilize the packs.
  6. I had never heard of it, but found this article at SOS. https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/steinberg-virtual-bassist
  7. You shouldn't experience any difference in audio quality between the Scarlett Solo and 2i2. But you don't get a separate headphone volume control on the Solo, like the 2i2 has. Both have direct monitoring available, which avoids DAW latency by directly routing the interface hardware inputs to the outputs (your monitors). But for your reference, here are the manufacturer specs (hint: mic/line/headphone audio specs are identical): https://focusrite.com/en/audio-interface/scarlett/scarlett-solo https://focusrite.com/en/usb-audio-interface/scarlett/scarlett-2i2 MIDI controllers do not make any sound by themselves, so a headphone jack would be totally useless with them. You need to plug MIDI controllers into a computer, and use them to control a virtual instrument. However a synthesizer keyboard or digital piano with on-board sounds will need an audio input (1 for mono, 2 for stereo) to record an audio signal at line level. It is easier and cheaper to record a soft synth in the box, if you can tackle the latency.
  8. TL;DR: the phrase GAS as used here refers to Gear Acquisition Syndrome... ? It's actually a sub-topic in the Wikipedia article for Compulsive buying disorder (CBD), or oniomania (from Greek ὤνιος ṓnios "for sale" and μανία manía "insanity", is characterized by an obsession with shopping and buying behavior that causes adverse consequences. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsive_buying_disorder#Gear_Acquisition_Syndrome_(G.A.S.)
  9. For a guitar and a mic input, you would do very well with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. The 2 inputs will easily accommodate both at the same time, or you could get by with the Scarlett Solo if you only intend to track one at a time. The Focusrite ASIO drivers get reasonably low latency for this price range. Your laptop should be more than fine for that use. If you also add a new MIDI keyboard, those typically connect with MIDI over USB, so no need to worry about MIDI ports.
  10. I hate to break up the love fest, but I'm not sure that this issue affects everyone. ? I am running 1.4.2b1649 Win10|64 without any issues. It self updates as needed anytime I launch it. The last update I had was was from 1.4.1 on July 13th.
  11. And to expand on this comment, I will add that MODO Bass sounds great, but doesn't have any songwriting or player assists. EZBass has a plethora of songwriting assists and multiple ways to get your music into it and create bass parts that work with your music, as a composer or producer. And the ujam Virtual Bassist has a focus on being the bass player, with included styles and 1,000+ phrases. VB 2.0 includes both a player mode and an instrument mode. The phrases in VB 2.0 can be dragged into your DAW track, retaining the key info that your currently selected pattern is currently being played with. So I cannot see much overlap between these 3 products... I would say that they are complementary.
  12. The Cakewalk instruments are a separate download from the main DAW download. Look in BandLab assistant under the Apps tab. Click the dropdown arrow in the Cakewalk section beside the word "Open". Select "Install Add-ons".
  13. Then you will need to remove the track plugins first, then freeze it. You can freeze, and then process the frozen audio track with the FX you need after you have the lead without cut outs. If the track cuts out again, use different plugins.
  14. The LP EQ in the FX menu is the L Phase Equalizer that scook was referring to earlier. Look in the bottom right corner of the plugin UI. It says "L Phase Equalizer".
  15. MODO is a great sounding bass! Plus the advantage of modeling rather than sampling is that you can set up a bass exactly the way you like it. As far as I know, all of the alternatives to MODO use samples. So with samples there's no way to change the many bass options unless they are also included in the sample library. But with MODO you can switch from 4 strings to 5 or 6 strings, fingered or picked, round or flat wound strings, passive or active electronics , body style, etc., with just a few clicks...
  16. Video cued to begin at tip #2, Freeze (video is a few years old, using Sonar for the example, but still applies):
  17. Freeze should work. It does a quick mixdown of the selected instrument track, along with any inserted FX, resulting in an audio track in its place. Audio tracks with no FX use almost no (insignificant) CPU processing. https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=Cakewalk&language=3&help=Mixing.23.html
  18. Did you read my suggestion to freeze instrument tracks?
  19. You quoted a reply that I have deleted after I read your resolution post. Responded to the CPU question instead.
  20. Glad that you found it! If you freeze the synth track after you have it sounding the way you like, you end up with an audio track with the FX applied. The synth track and plugins get archived, so no longer a burden on the CPU. Freeze and unfreeze anytime as you wish. Best way to deal with CPU hogs!
  21. Not sure what the 1.1.3 update was all about, but the buttons are still behaving as before ...
